2、is specification covers the requirements for one type of plastic glasses for dark adaptation purposes. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 The following documents of the issue in effect on date of invitation for bids or request for proposals, form a part of this specification to the extent specified herein.

REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article inspection I- Unless otherwise specified, the dark adaptation
7、glasses furnished under this specification shall be a product which has been inspected and passed the first article inspections specified in Section 4. 3.2 Materials - Materials shall conform to applicable specifications as specified herein. Materials for which there are no applicable specifications
8、, or which are not specifically described herein, shail be of the best quality and entirely suitable for the purpose intended. * 3.2.1 Frame - 3.2.1.1 Brow bar and nose bridge - The brow bar and nose bridge shall be injection molded from a first grade, nearly opaque and black virgin cellulose acetat
9、e material. Not more than 15 percent of imperfect parts, sprues, or runners of the same composition material shall be used with the virgin molding material. 3.2.1.2 Temple butt - The temple butt shall be injection molded from a first grade, virgin cellulose acetate butyrate material that is nearly o
10、paque and dark, Not more than 15 percent of imperfect parts, sprues, or runners of the same composition material shall be used with the virgin molding material. 3.2.1.3 Tubing - The tubing used for the temple shall be extruded from clear cellulose acetate butyrate material. 3.2.1.4 Rivets - The rive
11、ts used to secure the temple to the brow bar shail be fabricated from brass wire conforming to QQ-W-321, Composition B. 3.2.1.5 Temple hinge - The temple hinge shall be fabricated from brass or 10 percent nickel silver. 13、ed it shall conform to the nominal composition specified in Table I. 3.2.1.6 Metal butt and cable (core and winding) - The metal butt and cable (core and winding) shall be fabricated from optical metal or nickel silver of nominal composition as shown in Table I. 14、L METAL AND NICI(EL SILVER 3.2.2.1 Spectral transmittance - Between the wavelengths 400 to 580 milli- microns, the lens shall transmit no greater than 0.2 percent of the incident light. For wavelengths from 580 to 760 millimicrons the rod and cone stimulation factors shall be determined in accordanc
15、e with Section 4. The sum of the products of the constarlt factors for the cones and the transmittances of the filter at the stated intervals shall equal or exceed 115 units and shall be at least 18.0 times greater than the sum of the products of the constant factors for the rods and the transmit- t
16、ance of the filters at the same wavelengths. 3.2.2.2 Optical quality - The lens shall be of good optical quality so that visual acuity shall not be materially changed. (See 4.5.4.) 3.2.2.3 Visible defects - The lens material shall be clean and free from superficial undulations, lenticulations, stria
17、e, bubbles, seeds, scratches, opaque particles, or any other imperfections detectable with unaided vision which will impair the visual properties. (See 4.5.5.) 3.3 Design and construction - 3.3.1 Frame - The frame shall conform to the design, shape and dimensions shown on Figures 1 through 4 and the
18、 following: 3.3.1.1 The vertical and horizontal angles of the Wo tempIes shown on Figures 1 and 3 shall be substantially matched and shall provide a satisfactory fit at the mitered joints with the brow bar. The assembly shall be such that the lens will be supported in the proper position before the

23、ogether with a rivet so that there is no appreciable looseness to permit angular up and down movement of the temple with respect to the front. The rivet shall be permanently and securely set. 3.3.1.3 The plastic temple butt and tubing shall be securely and perma- nently cemented together. The tubing
24、 shall be permanently heat-sealed on the end. 3.3.1.4 The hinge shall be securely spot-welded, soldered, or securely riveted to the temple butt insert. 3.3.1.5 After fabrication, the hinge and temple shall be nickel plated prior to application of plastic covering on the temple. 3.3.1.6 The brow bar
25、shall be securely and permanently attached to tue lens by 5 pins, and the nose bridge securely and permanently cemented to the lens, 3.3.2 Lens - - 3.3.2.1 The lens shall be blanked or cut to size, shape, and contour as shown in Figure 4, The edges of the lens shall be free from cracks or roughness
26、and shall have a smooth finish. 3.3.2.2 After complete assembly the lens shali be clean. No labels or identification markings shail appear on the lens. ,I 3.4 Aging - The assembled glasses shall pass the aging test des- cribed in Section 4. 3.5 Lens coverirg - Both sides of the lens of the finished
27、glasses shall be covered with smooth finish paper to prevent damage to the lens. The lens covering shall be die-cut from one piece to the size and shape which would permit folding flat on itself to completely cover both front and back of lens excluding the brow bar. - 3.5.1 Markings on lens covering
28、 - Instructions covering precautions and care of lhe lens and glasses shall consist of the specified wording, and shall be placed in the location on the outside front of the lens covering, as specified. 3.5.1.1 The words “Dark Adaptation Glasses - Instructions“ shall be placed above the nose bridge.

The plastic lens of these g
30、lasses is shatter-resistant, safer, and lighter than glass lenses, but easily scratched if abused. When not in use, protect against dirt or hard objects. To make the lens last longer, remove dust and fingor- prints by (1) washing with water or (2) steaming with breath. 3.5.1.3 On the right half of t
31、he lens covering, the following wording shall be placed: “Then wipe dry with a soft clean cloth or toilet paper, making absolutely certain the cloth or paper is free of grit, sand, or dirt. Gasoline or hot water should - not be used for cleaning. IlThe flexible earpiece of the temple is easily adjus
32、ted for praper fit by gently forming with the fingers. It 3.6 Performance - The glasses shall satisfactorily meet the following performance requirements when tested as specified in Section 4. (a) Spectral transmittance (b) Optical quality (c) Lens examination 3.7 Marking - Each pair of glasses shali
33、 be permanently and distinctly marked with the letters ltUSN1l together with year of manufacture and name of manu- facturer, brand name, or trade mark i such mark is readily identifiable with said manufacturer. The markings shall be placed on the brow bar or temple of the glasses. 3.8 Workmanship -
34、Work shall be in accordance with high grade prac- tice covering this type of work, and the glasses shall completely meet the Accept- ance Quality Levels (AQLIs) as specified in Section 4. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection - Unless otherwise specified in the contract o

Except as otherwise spec
36、ified in the contract or order, the supplier may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspeci;ion requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the in- spections set forth in this specificat
37、ion where such inspections are deemed neces- sary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. 4.2 Classification of inspection - The inspection and testing of the dark adaptation glasses shall be classified as follows: (a) First article inspection - First article inspection c
38、onsists of tests and examinations performed on samples which are representative of the production item after award of a contract to determine that the production item meets the requirements of this specification. (b) Quality conformance inspection - Quality conformance inspection consists of tests a
39、nd examinations performed on individual products or lots to determine conformance of the products or lots to the requirements of this specification. 4.3 First article inspection - The first article inspection of the dark , adaptation glasses shall consist of examinations and tests for all the requir
40、ements of this specification. 4r3.1 First article samples - Unless otherwise specified, as soon as practicable after the award of the contract or order, the manufacturer shall submit five pairs of glasses and two sheets of lens material 6 x 9 inches in size, as first article samples. The samples sha
41、ll be representative of the construction, work- manship and materials to be used during production. When a manufacturer is in continuous production of these dark adaptation glasses from contract to contract, submission of further first article samples on the new contract may be waived at the discret
42、ion of the procuring activity. Approval of the first article samples or the waiving of first article inspection does not preclude the requirement for per- forming the quality conformance inspection. The first article samples shall be furnished to the Government as directed by the Contracting Officer
43、 (see 6.2). 48、lor (258.7.1-1951), using a suitable spectrophotometer (such as the Beckman or the Hardy-General Electric) which is maintained and calibrated in accordance with the recommendations of the National Bureau of Standards. Spectral trans- mittance over the range from 580 to 760 millimicrons shall be dete
