SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers one type of rat guard to preven

2、t rats from boarding ships. 1.2 Classification. Rat guards shall be of the following sizes, as specified (see 6.2): 3-inch 5-inch 8-inch 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 Government documents. 2.1.1 Specifications and standards. Unless otherwise specified, the following specifications and standards of the

11、take precedence. 3 REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Materials. Rat guards shall be galvanized sheet steel (galvanize coating 1-m per square foot), or sheet aluminum alloy 6061-T6 or 5052-H32 as specified (see 6.2). Rat guards shall conform to figure 1 and shall consist of a disc and a tapered sleeve. half shall be

When the guard is made of aluminum sheets, the sleeve and guide shall be spot welded and riveted to the disc. Spot welds not to exceed 2-inch spacing, and the minimum number of 4 spots o

14、n each half shall be required. diameter. Five rivets shall be installed in each half of the guard, evenly spaced between spot welds. The rivets shall be equivalent to number 3, 0.160 inch 3.1.3 Hinge bolt. Each guard shall be provided with a 1/4-20 UNC, hexa- gon head bolt, nut and washer. .For stee

15、l guards, these parts shall be steel galvanized. For aluminum guards, these parts shall be corrosion-resistant steel. 3.1.4 Recovered materials. Unless otherwise specified herein, all equip- ment, material, and articles incorporated in the products covered by this spec- ification shall be new and sh

16、all be fabricated using materials produced from recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable without jeopardizing the intended use. The term “recovered materials“ means materials which have been collected or recovered from solid waste and reprocessed to become a source of raw materials, as

17、opposed to virgin raw materials. interpreted to mean that the use of used or rebuilt products is allowed under this specification unless otherwise specifically specified. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibiliy for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is respo

Packing shall be accomplished in a manner which will insure acceptance by common carrier at the lowest rate and will afford protec- tion against physical.or mechanical damage during direct shipment from the supply source to the using activity for early installation. The shipping containers

40、 or method of packing shall conform to the Uniform Freight Classifi- cation Rules, National Motor Freight Classification, or other carrier regula- tions, as applicable to the mode of transportation. 5.3 Marking. In addition to any special marking required (see 6.2), unit packs and shipping container

41、s shall be marked in accordance with MIL-STD-129. Unit packs in open crates may be marked with waterproof tags, 60 NOTES 6.1 Intended use.
