16、fied on the drawing by their part numbers. Commercial utility parts such as screws, bolts, nuts, cot- ter pins, etc., may be used provided they possess suitable properties and are replace- able by the Standard parts without altera- tion, and provided the corresponding Stand- ard part numbers are ref

17、erenced in the parts list and if practicable on the contrac- tors drawings. In the event there is no suitable corresponding Standard part in ef- fect on date of invitation for bids, com- mercial parts may be used provided they conform to all requirements of this spec- ification, 3.3.2 Metals. All me

18、tals used in construc- tion of heaters shall be of a corrosion-re- sistant type or shall be suitably protected to resist corrosion and shall not be subject to deleterious changes on exposure to operating temperatures during the normal service life of the heater, The use of dissimilar metals, as defi

19、ned in MS33586, shall be avoided wherever practicable. Where such contacts are unavoidable they shall be properly insu- lated in the best practicable manner. 3.3.2.1 Casthgs. Castings shall be of high quality, clean, sound, and free from blow holes, porosity, cracks, and other defects. Castings shal

20、l meet the requirements spec- ified for Class 2B of Specification MIL-C- 6021. 3.3.3 Fungus-proof mntet%b. Materials which are not nutrients for fungi shall be used to the greatest extent practicable. In cases where materials that are nutrients for fungi must be used, such materials shall be treated

21、 with a fungicidal agent, as approved by the Government. 3.4 Design, The design of the heaters shall be such that combustion can be started by a spark plug or glow plug igniter with the control at a station remote from the heater. Common air inlets for combustion and ven- tilating air shall not be u

22、sed. The combus- tion chamber shall form a closed duct having no openings into the ventilating airstream. The combusion chamber and the inlet and exhaust tubes or ducts shall be so designed that they will not rupture under the most severe explosion conditions that may result from any possible fuel-a

23、ir mixture. The heater exhaust shall be provided with a leak- proof connection to permit attachment of necessary ducting to conduct exhaust gases to the exterior of the aircraft. 3.4.1 Heat exchanger. The heater shall be designed so that for any condition of opera- tion, except when positive pressur

24、e is im- posed at combustion air outlet, with OF with- out a blower, the static pressures existing in any part of the combustion chamber will be less than the static pressure in the venti- lating air chamber surrounding the combus- tion chamber. The heat and corrosion-re- sistant material used in th

26、ormal service life of the heater can be repaired by Overhaul and Repais Activity procedures. 3.4.2 FueE drcins. Fuel drains shall be pro- vided in the combustion chamber to eliminate the possibility of any accumulation of fuel. 3.4.3 Supply fuel pressu7-e. The heater shall operate satisfactorily wit

27、hin the fuel-pres- sure supply limits of 1 to 28 pounds per- square inch for gasoline or more for JP type fuels as specified in the procurement docu- ment (see 6.3). 3.4.4 Vibrution. The heater shall be so de- signed as to be capable of meeting the vibra- tion requirements of Procedure XII of Spec-

28、ification MIL-E-5272 without damage or improper operation. 3.4.5 EzpEosion. The heater shall be capable of withstanding the explosion resistance test outlined in paragraph 4.8.5 without rupture. 3.5 Construction. The heater shall be so constructed as to withstand the normal strains, shocks, vibratio

29、ns, and such other conditions as are incident to shipping, stoi- age, installation and service use without failure. 3.5.1 Interchmageability. All paits having the same manufacturers part number shall be directly and completely interchangeable with each other with respect to installation and performa

30、nce. Changes in manufac- turers part numbers shall be governed by , the drawing number requirements of Speci- fication MIL-D-70327. 3.5.2 Replaceability. It shall be practicable to replace any component assembly of the heater without requiring replacement of other components. 3.6 Electrical requirem

31、ents and properties. 3.6.1 Operuting voltage. The heates shall maintain the specified performance using d-c I power (category B) with characteristics l MIL-H-54844 I which are listed in Military Standard 3.6.2 Pozue Consumption. The electrical power consumption of the heater when op- erating under a

32、ny condition, except during starting, shall not exceed 75 watts. The elec- trical power required for stai.ting the heater shall not exceed 350 watts. 3.6.3 Shielding. The ignition system of the heaters shall utilize high tension shielded type wire and shall meet the radio inter- ference requirements

33、 of Specification MIL 3.6.4 Electrical connectors. Electrical con- nectors shall be in accordance with Spec- ification MIL-C-5015. 3.6.5 Electrical accessories. The part of the ignition system external to the heater or combustion or ventilation ducts must be in- capable of acting as a source of igni

34、tion for fuel, oil, or fuel and oil fumes. MIL-STD-704. 1-6181. I 3.7 Threads. 3.7.1 Stq-aight threads. All straight screm- threads shall conform to Specification MIL- S-8 87 9. 3.7.2 Pipe-threads. Pipe threads may be employed only for permanently plugging drilled or cored openings. 3.8 Finish. Prot

35、ective coatings and finishes that will crack, chip, or scale during normal service life OF due to extremes of atmos- pheric conditions shall not be used. 3.8.1 Alumiwum-ulloy parts. Aluminum- alloy parts, where practicable, shall be covered with an a.nodic-film conforming to Specification MIL-A-8625

36、, except tha.t elec- trical receptacles need not be anodized. 3.8.2 Steel parts. Steel parts except for corrosion-resisting steel shall be cadmium- or zinc-plated where practicable in accord- ance with Specification QQ-P-416 or QQ-Z- 325, respectively. 3.8.3 Exposed parts. Exposed corrosion- resista

37、nt material need not be painted. 38、at of black enamel in accordance with Specification MIGE- 5557. 3.9 Operational perf ormance and product characteristics. The ignition system of the heater shall be capable of igniting the fuel- air mixture in the combustion chamber at any inlet air and fuel temperature ranging from -54“ to 38“ C (-

39、65“ to + 100“ F), except when grade JP-5 fuel is specified, and at any combination of altitude differential pressures as determined applicable for the type of aircraft in which the heaters are to be used, The minimum fuel temperature when grade JP-5 fuel is specified shall be that temperature corres

40、ponding to a fuel viscosity of not less than 12 centistokes. The time required for ignition shall not exceed 15 seconds for gasoline or 60 seconds for JP type fuels. Ignition time is defined as the time required after actuation of the ignition switch until the heater exhaust temperature rises 150“ F

41、 providing that the heater then continues to operate in a normal manner; Le., no smoking, no backfiring, etc. Heaters shall be capable of operating con- tinuously with fuel conforming to Specifica- tion MIL-G-5572, Grade 115/145, or MIL- J-5624, as applicable, for a period of not less than 200 hours

42、 without the necessity of re- moving lead compound, gum, soot, or other deposits which might interfere with the satisfactoiy operation of the heater. PPO- visions shall be made for ready removal of deposits accumulated at the end of this period unless the design of the heater is such that deposits d

43、o not seriously interfere with its operation during the complete endurance test as outlined in paragraph 4.8.6. 3.10 Product performance. The heater shall comply with the performance requirements specified in section 4 when subjected to the applicable tests therein. 3.11 Special tools. The design sh

44、all be such as to accommodate to the greatest possible extent, disassembly, reassembly, or service maintenance by those tools and items of 6 I : .-7 1 maintenance equipment which are normally available as commercial standards, 3.12 Identification of product. 3.12.1 Nameplate. The nameplate shall con

Property I TYPE 3.13 Workmanship, It is required that all details of workmanship be of the highest quality in order to insure proper functioning of the heater. Particular attention shall be given to thoroughness of assembly, align- ment of parts and tightnes

47、s of assembly screws and bolts, marking of parts, surface finishes, and removal of burrs and sharp edges. 3.13.1 Welding. Joining of component parts by fusion welding shall be accomplished in accordance with Specification MIL-W-8611. When resistance welding is used, the require- ments of Specificati

48、on MIL-W-6858 shall be adhered to. 3.13.2 Cleaning. All parts of the heater assembly shall be clean and free from dirt, metal chips and other foreign matter during and after assembly, 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or pur
