The purpose of this standard and the supporting sections is toprovide textbook-type information and guidance for use in the design andconstruction of ships. The supporting sections illustrate typical design andcalculation methods and pr

7、ocedures which are acceptable to the Government.ackround. The need for standardized ship design methods and procedures hasbecome apparent as ships and their equipment have grown more complex. Previ-ously an internal Design Data Book consisting of individual design data shietswas used to compile desi

8、gn methods and procedures applicable to the Navy. Thisstandard extends that concept and provides ready access to those involved inNaval ship design.Desizn. System and equipment design present the engineer with complex andunique problems. Many methods and design procedures exist which may be used ind

9、esigning a given system or equipment. The intent of this standard is toestablish the methods and procedures which the Navy will accept as valid. Adesigner employing these methods and procedures will have his work consideredacceptable from the standpoint of form and method. This is not to imply thato

10、ther a75ethods and procedures are not acceptable to the Navy, but the burden ofproof resides with the contractor.ConceDt. Ship design methods are textbook typeinformation and guidance for use in the design and construction of ships whichillustrate typical design and calculation methods and p

22、rocedures acceptable tothe Government.4. GENERAL REQUIREKES4.1 Alcation. This standard applies to all activities involved inship and equipment design, construction and installation and requires thatconsideration be given to use of its methods and procedures by such activities.4.1.1 Invokinp standard

While the use of this standard is notmandatory, it shall be considered when specifying ship design requirements.Requirements shall be carefully considered by all ship design activitiesinvolved in ship construction, modernization and conversion throughou: theentire ship life cycle. 27、unction and effectiveness, design,production and maintenance. The ESWBS consists of a structural S-digit nume:icsystem. Sections of MIL-STD-2189 will be identified by the first 3-digits C:the ESWBSnumber corresponding with the primary design element under considera-tion. In cases where various aspec
