24、3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 6.4) in accordance with 4.3. 3.2 Material. Lifeboat shall be the natural color of the finished coated cloth. No pigmentation of the coated cloth is required except that the side of
28、 the canopy visible from the air when in use shall be pigmented to a color of international orange, color 12197, 22190, 28915, or 38902 of FED-STD-595. O 3.2.3 Fasteners. Fasteners shall conform to MS27980 3.2.4 Finish. Aluminum alloy parts shall have an anodic coating conforming to MIL-A-8625, type
29、 II, class 1, overcoated with two coats of epoxy-polyamide paint conforming to MIL-P-24441, one coat conforming to MIL-P-24441/1, formula 150 to a minimum of 2 mils dry film thickness (dft), and one finish coat conforming to MIL-P-24441/2, formula 151 to a minimum of 2 mils dft. shall be not greater
30、 than 4 mils. Corrosion-resistant steel and plated parts shall be left unpainted. Individual coats of paint 3.2.5 Rope. 32、s A, size E. 3.2.8 Metal Darts. Metal parts other than those specified on the drawings and herein shall be corrosion-resistant steel conforming to ASTM A 167, types 304, 316, 316L. 3.2.9 Recovered materials. Unless otherwise specified herein, all equip- ment, material, and articles incorporated in t
33、he products covered by this specification shall be new and may be fabricated using materials produced from recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable without jeopardizing the intended use. The term “recovered materials“ means materials which have been collected or recovered from solid was
34、te and reprocessed to become a source of raw materials, as opposed to virgin raw materials. None of the above shall be interpreted to mean that the use of used or rebuilt products is allowed under this specification unless otherwise specifically specified. 3.3 Component parts. The completed lifeboat
35、 shall consist of a container and components conforming to MIL-C-24491, the lifeboat as shown on Drawing 803-4382177, and all equipment specified herein. 3.4 Weight. For reference purposes, the bow of the lifeboat is defined as the end opposite the boarding ramp; the stern is def
37、ined as the end of the raft containing the boarding ramp. 3.5.2 Laus and seams. Laps and seams shall be secured only by vulcanizing. Sewing shall not be used in any seams or through the coated cloth of any air chamber. llfe line supports, cylinder holders, and pockets, but not in their final attachm
38、ent to the lifeboat. shall be required, except for the canopy installation which may be assembled and attached by the use of room temperature curing cement conforming to MIL-A-5540, class 2. strength of the coated fabric joined after vulcanizing. overlap seam be less than 3/4 inch. When subjected to
39、 a tensile load of 40 pounds per inch of width at a temperature of 200 2 degrees Fahrenheit (OF), the untaped seams shall show no sign of slippage after 24 hours. Cement shall be applied in a line parallel to the edges of the seams, seam tapes, gum stripping, attachment patches, and so forth, and sh
40、all extend not less than 1/8 inch and not greater than 1/2 inch beyond the edges. Seams shall be covered inside and outside with tape conforming to MIL-C-17415, type 8, class B, not less than 1-5/8 inches wide after application, or gum stripping, having a gauge thickness of 0.032 5 0.005 inch and a
41、minimum width of 3/4 inch after application. The tape or gum stripping may be omitted on the outside of a lap where another layer of fabric covers the lap. The tape or gum stripping shall be applied without excessive tension, and shall be so laid that approximately an equal amount is on each side of
42、 the seam edge which it covers. Gum or fabric discs shall be used at the intersections of seam laps. Sewing will be permitted only in the construction of patches, flaps, Vulcanizing in a steam or air pressure autoclave . The seam overlap shall withstand a pull test load in excess of the In no case s
43、hall the # O 3.5.3 Bulkhead. Upper and lower tubes and the center (midship) canopy bow shall be fitted with internal vertical bulkheads, dividing each tube into two separate compartments. These bulkheads shall be of hemispherical, conical, or flexible vertical design. Bulkheads shall be located appr
44、oximately as shown on Drawing 803-4382177 in order that the volume of the compartments shall be approximately equal. Bulkheads shall be of coated cloth and shall be as shown on Drawing 803-4382177 and shall be flanged for direct attachment to the inside of the tube. Flange attachment shall be reinfo
45、rced with a tape not less than 2 inches wide, centerfolded into a “VI, attached 1 inch on the tube at the bulkhead side opposite the flange attachment. Bulkhead attachment shall withstand a pressure of 3.8 pounds per square inch (ib/in2), with the adjacent compartment uninflated and vented. There sh
46、all be no failure of the bulkhead or its attachment (see 4.8.3). 3.5.4 Upper and lower tubes, The upper and lower hull tubes, separate air- tight chambers, shall be constructed and assembled, one atop the other, as shown on Drawing 803-4382177. The attachment shall be reinforced inboard and outboard
