SCOPE AND CLASSIFICATION 1.1 ScoDe - The equipment covered by this specification s
2、hail be a Meter, Frequency, RF, LM Series, capable of providing a simple, accurate, and reliable frequency indicating equipment of the crystal calibrated type for use in Military Service. It shall be adaptable for adjusting adjacent radio transmitters and receivers to any desired frequency in the ra

All referenced specifica- tions shall apply to the extent specified. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Parts and Materials - The equipment sha
18、li fulfill the following requirements for parts and materials: 3.1. I Selection of Parts and Materials - The fulfillment of major design objectives shall govern the selection of parts and materials. All parts and materials shall meet the requirements of Specification MIL-E-54OO;however, if the contr
19、actor can demonstrate the use of such parts and materials will not fulfill the major design objectives, then parts and materials shall be used which most nearly meet or exceed the re- quirements of Specification MIL-E-5400. 3.1.2 Approval for Nonstandard Parts and Materials - Approval for the use of
20、 nonstandard parts and materials shall be obtained as outlined in Specification MIGE5400. Requests for approval must be for- warded to the procuring agency by the contractor before parts are purchased or fabricated. the requirements of Specification MIL-T-945. 3.1.3 Workmanship - Workmanship, fabric

22、re protected by encapsulating material approved by the procuring agen- cy. The Grade 2 requirements of Specification MIL-T-27 shall apply to the open-type units only to the extent that these requirements be fulfilled by the Flexseal, Fosterite, and Permafil processes, or equivalent. Elec- trolytic c
23、apacitors may be used if they meet the requirements of Specification JAN-C-62. the requirements of Specification MIL-E-4682. 3.2 nts 3.2.1 3.1.5 Electron Tubes - Electron tubes used in the equipment shall be chosen in accordance with General - The equipment shall fulfill all applicable design and pe
24、rformance requirements of Specification MIL-T-945 unless otherwise specified. Service Conditions - The equipment shall operate satisfactorily under any of the service conditions, or reasonable combination of service conditions, as specified in MIL-T-945 except that the re- quirements specified shall
25、 apply only within the temperature range from -20“ to +51.7“ C (-4“ to +125“ F). Form Factor and Weight - The over-all dimensions of the frequency meter shall not be greater than 8-1/8 inches high, 8-1/2 inches wide, and 8-7/16 inches deep. The total weight shall not be greater than 11.5 pounds. Ope
26、rating Power - The equipment shall operate as specified herein from 115-V a-c 2.1 R-F Output - The radio frequency energy available between the output terminal and ground as intended for use in calibrating radio receivers shall be not less than 2000 UV at any radio frequency in the calibrated range.
27、 3.3.1.3.2.2 Dial Calibration Accuracy - The variable element of the heterodyne oscillator shall be con- nected to a dial assembly having not less than 5000 effective readable divisions. The spacing between adja- cent marks shall be not less than 0.05 inch, At any frequency within the range of the f
28、requency measuring equipment, one dial division shall represent not more than 2.5 kc. After adjusting the heterodyne oscillator for operation at any frequency within its range, noting settings, and then completely detuning, it shall be pos- sible to reset in one minute with an accuracy 10.02 percent
29、 in the low frequency band, and 10.01 percent inthe high frequency band, when approaching such settings from either direction. 3.3.1.3.2.3 Heterodyne Oscillator-Temperature Coefficient - The temperature coefficient of each range of the heterodyne oscillator shall not exceed 0.003 percent per degree
30、C as measured over the range -20 to +51.7“ C. 3.3.1.3.2.4 Calibration Connection Control - The .calibration data for the heterodyne oscillator shall be corrected for a temperature of +20“ C. Correction of the output of the heterodyne oscillator to agree with the calibration data and the crystal stan
31、dard shall be by means of a trimming control located on the front panel which will effect a correction in the frequency of its output, tenance of calibration over long periods of time under conditions of service use. Corrections for variations due to changes in ambient conditions within the specifie
32、d ranges shall be by means of the calibration correc- tor mentioned above. In combination with individual band trimmers which can be adjusted on the front panel by removal of cover plates the design of all circuits shall provide the utmost in frequency stability and accu- racy practicable, 3.$1.3.2.

34、uency of the measuring equipment operating as a heterodyne oscillator shall be within 0.02 percent of the frequency in the range 125 to 2000 kc and within 0.01 percent of the range 2000 to 20,000 kc within the environmental conditions of MIL-T-945. Detector Output - The detector shall be arranged so
35、 that, in combipation with the audio am- plifier, the output impressed across the phones shall be a substantially linear function of input voltage when the output values lie between 2 and 60 mw. 3.3.1.3.4 Audio Amplifier Output - The audio amplifier shall provide audio outputs of at least 20 mw at 1
36、00 to 500 cycles. A filter shall be provided which begins to cut off the audio frequency above 300 cycles. The zero beat tone shall be sharp and easily detected in flight. Adjustment of the r-f attenuator control shall be allowed for the above. The output circuit shall remove d-c potentials and subs
37、tantially all radio frequency potentials from the telephones. Provision shall be made to use efficiently 600-ohm phones equipped with un- shielded cords. 3.3.1.3.3 3.3.1.3.5 Output Attenuator - A radio frequency coupling attenuator with control on the front panel, shall be provided to permit adjusti
38、ng the r-f output to all values between the output terminal and ground. Use of this control shall not prevent attaining the accuracy of measurements as required herein. It shall also serve to reduce r-f inputs. 3.3.1.3.6 Percentage of Modulation - Suitable provision shall be made to provide approxim
39、ately 500- cycle modulation of the outpu of the heterodyne oscillator for calibrating nonoscillating receivers. Suitable switching devices shall be provided to permit the use of this modulation or not as desired by operating a sin- gle control located on the front panel. About 40 percent modulation
40、shall be provided as measured in the fun- damental ranges of the radio frequency oscillator. It will be satisfactory if the audio output tube is used also as the modulator provided suitable control is provided, and all requirements of specifications are met. 3.3.1.4 Power Rewired - The power require
41、d for the operation of the frequency meter unit shall normally be as follows: Filaments: 11-15 volts; current not to exceed O. 78 amp. or 22-30 volts; current not to exceed O. 031 amp 200-260 volts; current not to exceed O. 02 amp or 260-475 volts; current not to exceed O. 031 amp Plate: 3.3.1.4.1 S
42、witching and Voltage Regulation - Internal link type switching within the unit will be per- mitted to provide for the change in voltages above. An automatic voltage regulator shall be incorporated in the unit in order to stabilize the heterodyne oscillator over the wide input voltage ranges specifie

48、00 cycle a-c power source. This unit shall be a complete power supply and include the power unit proper, com- plete with rectifier tube, filters, etc in accordance with MIL-T-945. Form Factor - The over-all dimensions of the rectifier power unit shall not be greater than 14 inches Iong, 10-1/4 inche
49、s wide, and 7-3/4 inches high. The weight shall not be greater than 13.60 pounds, 3.3.3.2 Power Required - The maximum power drawn from the a-c power source shall not exceed 25 watts under load. 3.3.3.3 Construction - Electrically, the power supply shall be capable of furnishing all of the plate 3.3.3.1 and filament voltages necessary for satisfactory operation of the crystal frequency indicator.
