2、nt of the Navy, and is available for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers ampere-hour meters used to record the energy that enters or leaves a submarine storage battery. 1.2 Classification. Ampere-hour meters shall be classif

3、ied as follows: Type I - Designed to operate from a 2500-ampere, 100-millivolt (mV) Type II - Designed to operate from a 3OO0-amperey 100-mV shunt. Type III - Designed to operate from a 4OO0-amperey 100-mV shunt. Type IV - Designed to operate from a 5OO0-amperey 100-mV shunt. shunt. 2. APPLICABLE DO

These documents also may be available in or through libraries or other informational services. ) 2.3 Order of precedence. In the event of a conflict between the text of this specification and the references ci

16、ted herein (except for associated detail specifications, specification sheets or MS standards), the text of this speci- fication shall take precedence. Nothing in this specification, however, shall supersede applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exempt ion has been obtained. 3 REQUIREMEN

17、TS 3.1 First article. When specified in the contract or purchase order, a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 4.4 and 6.3). 3.2 Materials. Materials used in the construction of the ampere-hour meters shall be as specified herein. 3.2.1 Prohibited materials. 3.2.1.1 Mercury. Th

18、e use of the element mercury in any component parts of the meter and for any manufacturing process shall be prohibited. 3.2.1.2 Thermionic devices. The use of thermionic devices such as electron tubes is prohibited. 3.2.2 Recovered materials. Unless otherwise specified herein, all equipment, materia

19、l, and articles incorporated in the products covered by this specification shall be new and may be fabricated using materials produced from recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable without jeopardizing the intended use. The term “recovered materials“ means materials which have been coll

20、ected or recovered from solid waste and reprocessed to become a source of raw materials, as opposed to virgin raw materials. None of the above shall be interpreted to mean that the use of used or rebuilt products is allowed under this specification unless otherwise specifically specified. 3.3 Design

21、. The ampere-hour meter shall consist of two major components as follows: (a) Integrating unit. An integrating unit consisting of electrical and electronic parts arranged to permit device performance as specified herein shall be provided. The parts shall be as- sembled and wired on a sub-panel not t

22、o exceed 10 inches in length and a cubic content not to exceed 640 cubic inches. The sub-panel shall be for mounting within a switchboard but shall be mounted within a bulkhead-mounted, dripproof enclosure as specified in 3.4.3. (b) Indicator. A four-digit unidirectional electric cyclometer shall be

23、 used as the indicator. The counter shall be capable of being reset to zero. The dimensions of this panel shall not exceed the cross section dimensions specified for 4-1/2-inch switchboard meters under MIL-M-16034. The indicator shall not exceed 4 inch

25、es in depth. The indicator shall be elec- trically isolated from the shunt input. The designation of the quantity measured (ampere hours) shall be marked on the front of the indicator or on an identification plate located below the cyclometer counter. The indicator shall be flush-mounted on the fron

26、t of the bulkhead-mounted, dripproof enclosure. 3.3.1 Input power. Power required to operate the meter will be supplied from a 115-volt, 400-hertz (Hz), single-phase source. 3.3.2 Input resistance. Input resistance to the meter shall be not less than 1000 ohms. 3.3.3 Corrosion protection. Metal part

27、s shall be protected against corro- sion in accordance with MIL-E-917. 3.3.4 Interchangeability. In no case shall parts be physically interchange- able or reversible unless such parts are also interchangeable or reversible with regard to function, performance and strength. 3.4 ComDonent Darts. 3.4.1

28、 Terminal boards. Terminal boards shall be in accordance with MIL-T-55164. 3.4.2 Identification plates. Identification plates in accordance with MIL-P-15024 and MIL-P-15024/5 shall be furnished for the indicator and the integrator. An identification plate shall be furnished covering the ampere-hour

29、meter. 3.4.3 Enclosure. The enclosure shall be in accordance with MIL-E-2036, and shall be of dripproof construction. 3.4.3.1 Painting. Enclosures shall be painted in accordance with MIL-E-917, except that only one coat of grey enamel shall be applied. Touching up shall be permitted for marks or scr

30、atches due to assembly, testing or other factory handling. 3.4.4 Electronic parts. The permanent change in indication shall not exceed the values specified in 3.8 and no parts shall become unduly damaged (see 4.6.

35、6). 3.6 Dielectric stress. Ampere-hour meters shall withstand a voltage of 2600 volts alternating current (Vac) without damage to components or flashover (see 4.6.7). 3.7 Insulation resistance. The insulation resistance shall be not less than 20 megohms (see 4.6.8). 3.8 Detail requirements. Detail r

36、equirements for types I, II, III, and IV nonmercury ampere-hour meters shall be as specified hereinafter: (a) Total registration - 10,000 ampere hours. (b) Dimensions of enclosure. - Not to exceed 10 inches high, 13 inches wide, and 12 inches deep. (c) Operating current ranges: Type I - 2 to 3000 am

37、peres. Type II - 2 to 3500 amperes. Type III - 3 to 4700 amperes. Type IV - 4 to 5800 amperes. Deviation from the requirements of DOD-D-1000 will be permitted when approved by the command or agency concerned. 3.9.1 Approval of ampere-hour meter drawi

41、ngs shall be required prior to production of meters furnished under a contract. 3.9.1.1 Contents. Ampere-hour meter drawings shall contain the following minimum data: (a) Outline (not necessarily to scale) giving dimensions and essential details of the ampere-hour meter enclosure. No gauge numbers o

42、r similar arbitrary designations of thickness, diameter and size shall be used. A note describing the cable entrance plate, gasketing, and gasket material, when furnished, shall be given. Drilling, mounting, and overall dimensions shall be complete, and shall not be obtained from the summation of pa

43、rtial dimensions. (b) Outline (not necessarily to scale) of the ampere-hour meter equip- ment within the enclosure showing the outlines of the components and referencing the components to the piece numbers of the list of materials. (c) Connection diagrams, as wired, shall be shown. Terminal location

44、 and markings shall be as shown on the equipment. 46、 Applicable Military specification. 3.10 Manuals. Manuals shall conform to type II of MIL-M-15071. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the con- tract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection re

47、quirements as specified herein. in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspec

48、tions set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. Except as otherwise specified 4.1.1 Responsibility for compliance. All items must meet all requirements of sections 3 and 5. The inspection set forth i

49、n this specification shall become a part of the contractors overall inspection system or quality program. The absence of any inspection requirements in the specification shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of assuring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract. Sampling in quality conformance does not authorize submission of known defective material, either indicated
