Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the contractor shall furnish three units for first article inspection (see 4.3). The first article shall be manuf
19、actured using the same methos, procedures, and tooling proposed for production. Approval of the first article by the procuring activity shall not relieve the contractor of the obligation to supply equipment conforming to this specification. Changes or deviations in production units from the approved
20、 first article baseline shall require written authorization by the procuring activity. 3.2 Materials. Materials used in fabrication of the fuel tank module shall be as specified on Drawing No. 845009AOOOO. Materials shall be free of defects and imperfections that might affect the serviceability and
21、appearance of the finished product. Substitute material shall not be utilized prior to written authorization by the procuring activity. Materials not specified shall be selected by the contractor and shall be subject to all provisions of this specification. Special precautions shall be observed to e
22、nsure that materials in contact with fuel do not contain contaminants which would preclude its intended use. 3.3 Design and construction. The fuel tank module shall be fabricated and assembled in accordance with Drawing No. 845009A0000 and as specified herein. 3.3.1 Safety approval. Necessary action
23、s as prescribed in 49CFR451 (see Code of Federal Regulations) shall be accomplished to obtain approval of the containers by an appropriate Convention for Safe Containers (CSC) approval authority (see 49CFR451), Subpart B - “Approval of New Containers“ and the required CSC Safety Approval Plate shall
24、 be provided and affixed to the container as prescribed in 49CFR451, Subpart C - “Safety Approval Plate“. The notice of approval received from the approval authority which authorizes the attachment of CSC Safety Approval Plates shall be furnished to the contracting officer within 30 days of receipt
25、by the contractor. The contractor shall also provide a certificate to the contracting officer stating the serial number, model number, and any pertinent manufacturing identification numbers of the tanks that are covered under each specific Notice of Approval. 4 Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reprod

Fuel tank modules shall be equipped with a 2-inchr drybreak valve inlet and a 2-inch drybreak disconnect valve outlet. Each shall be fitted with a quick dis- connect coupling (male at th
27、e outlet, female at the inlet) to facilitate the connection of the hoses. Dust caps and plugs with retention chains shall be provided on all quick disconnect. The quick disconnect couplings shall conform to MIL-C-27487. In addi- tion, each fuel tank shall contain a female fitting to accept the under
28、wing NATO pressure nozzle, type D-1 conforming to MIL-N-5877. The location of this female fitting shall be such that any commer- cial nozzle meeting the MIL-N-5877 requirements can be engaged even when the 2-inch drybreak outlet is manifolded to adjoining tank modules. The arrangement of inlet fitti
29、ngs should be provided for filling near the bottom of the tank to minimize splashing and build- up of a static charge within the tank. Inlet fittings shall permit filling rates up to 350 gallons per minute. 3.3.3 High level liquid sensor and shutoff valve. The fuel tank module shall contain a shutof
30、f valve and a high level liquid. sensor. The high level liquid sensor shall close the shutoff valve when the tank is full to prevent fuel spillage by overflowing the tank. The high level liquid sensor and shutoff valve shall operate without the need for electrical power or other auxiliary energy sou
31、rce. 3.3.4 Liquid level indicator. A liquid level indicator shall be provided for each fuel tank module. 3.3.5 Manhole. The manhole shall be compatible with vapor recovery systems and shall provide access to the interior of the tank for cleaning and repair. The manhole shall be provided with a remov
32、able gasketed cover capable of making a leakproof seal. A spring loaded pressure relief valve shall be incorporated in the cover to relieve internal pressure while preventing the entrance of outside air. 3.3.6 Welding and welders. 3.3.6.1 Weldinq. The fuel tank module and its components shall be wel
33、ded in accordance with Drawing No. 845009A0000. Welding shall meet the requirements of MIL-W-8611. The surface of parks shall be free from rust, scale, paint, grease, or other foreign matter. Spot, tack, or intermittent welds shall not be permitted unless otherwise cited in Drawing No. 845009A0000.
34、Weld penetration shall be such as to provide transference of maximum design stress through the base metal juncture. Fillet welds shall be provided when necessary to reduce stress concentration. All finished weldments shall be reason- ably.straight and true in accordance with good shop practice. Faul
35、ty weldments shall be corrected by welding only. Peening shall not be utilized to correct faults. Weld spatters shall be removed. All welders shall be qualified for the types of welds required in the fabrication of fuel tank modules. Before assigning any welder to welding work, the contractor shall provi
37、de the contracting officer with certification that the welder has passed qualification tests as prescribed by either of the following listed codes for the type of welding operation to be performed and that such qualification is effective as defined by that particular cado . AWS D1.1, Structural Weld
38、ing Code, Section 5. Qualification - Welding Inspection Manual Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Welding Qualification, Section IX (ASME) 3.3.6.3 Electrodes. Welding electrodes shall meet the require- ments of either MIL-E-19933 or MIL-E-22200/2. Electrodes used to weld class 304L corrosion - resisti
39、ng steel shall be type MIL-309 or MIL-310 only. 3.3.7 Castings and forgings. Castings and forgings shall be manu- factured in accordance with Drawing No. 845009A0000. All castings shall be free from patching, inclukions, misplaced coring, warping, or any other defect that reduces the castings abilit
40、y to perform its intended function. Forgings shall be uniform in quality and condition, and shall be free from tears, cracks, seams, laps, internal ruptures, imbedded scale, segregation and other defects. 3.3.8 Bolted and pinned connections. Bolt and pin holes shall be accurately punched or drilled
41、and shall have the burrs removed. 3.3.9 Machine work. Where machined surfaces are required to be heat treated, hardened, finish grounded, plated or coated, the part dimensions, as specified in Drawing No. 845009A0000, shall be main- tained. 3.3.10 Metal fabrication. Metal used in the fabrication of
42、the fuel tank modules shall be free from kinks and sharp bends. The straightening of material shall be done by methods that will not cause injury to the metal. Flame cutting, using a tip suitable for the thickness of the metal, may be employed instead of shearing or sawing. Reentrant cuts may be mad
43、e with controlled means in order to insure uniformity of size and shape. Precautions shall be taken to avoid overheating, and heated metal shall be allowed to cool slowly. The use of dissimilar metals in intimate contact with each other shall be avoided wherever possible. When the use of dissimilar

45、C) I 3.3.11 Interchangeability. Fuel tank modules of the same I requirements specified in IS0 668, 1161, 1496/I, and 1496/III. classification, furnished under any specific contract, shall be I physically and mechanically identical. They shall meet the :a 3.4 Reliability. The fuel tank module shall h
46、ave a 0.98 (98 percent) probability of completing a 12-hour mission. 3.5 Maintainability. The mean time to repair (MTTR) shall not exceed 1 hour at the organizational level and 2 hours at the direct support level. 3.6 Performance characteristics. The fuel tank module shall meet the.pressure and leak
47、age requirements of 49CFR178.253-5, when manifolded with appropriate hose and fittings. i 3.7 Environmental characteristics. 3.7.1 Temperature and humidity. The fuel tank module shall with- stand, without leakage, humidity resistance, low temperature (-25OF) and high temperature (160F) when tested a
48、s specified in 4.5.13. 3.7.2 Salt fog. The fuel tank module shall withstand, without cracking, cracked welds, corrosion and peeling of paint, salt fog when tested as specified in 4.5.13.4. 3.7.3 Vibration. Fuel tank modules, when full, must be capable of withstanding a 1-hour vibration test without
49、breakage, permanent deformation or leakage (see 4.5.13.5) . 3.7.4 Drop test. Fuel tank modules, when full, must be capable of withstanding a 2-foot free drop on a flat, unyielding surface without breakage, permanent deformation, or leakage (see 4.5.13.6). 3.8 Painting. The uel tank module shall be painted as speci- fied on Drawing No. 845009A0000 and MIL-E-52798. Color shall be as specified in 6.2. 3.9 Marking/serialization. 3.9.1 Fuel tank module. The fuel t
