When specified in the contract or purchase order, a sample shdl 6 su-trto first article inspection m approviil (see 4.4 and 6.3)- 3.3 Materials - 3.3.1 Wood, I Al1 WDOd shall be dried to a misture content of 8 to 12 percent at tim of fabrication (see 4.6.1). NP WDOd parts shall be fre

16、e from brashness, cace hardening: honeycombing, bark pdet, loose knots, insect or larvae channels, shade, splits, decay doze, warp or other defects, except as pmitted herein. The combined slop of grain o two adjacent faces of any blank shall not exceed 1 inch in 12 inches when tested as specified in

17、 4.6.2. The following deects will be permitted. ( 1 ) Local irregularity o grain direction, such as swirl, burl, or birds eye (2) Tight knots, mt mre than 1/4 inch in diameter, provided there is not more than one such knot per pole. (3) Medium stain which does not obscure the grain of the wood. (4)

18、Surface checks not mre than 3 inches long, or 1/64 inch wide, which are barely perceptible and occur on the surface only are permissible, provided there is not more than one such check per e. (5) Holes not mre than 1/16 inch in diameter, provided there are not more than 4 in one pole. (6) Entire len

19、gth of pole shall not be warp3 mre than 3/32 inch. 3.3.2 Kinds of wooil. Any of the following kinds of wood may be used. Ash Birch Hickory Oak, white Beech Elm, rock (cork) Maple, sugar or black (hard) pecan 3.4 Design and finished dimensions. The esign and finished dimensions shall be as shown in F

20、igure 1. 3.5 Finish. All poles shall be sanded smoothly and dipped or sprayed with a satisfactory cammercial clear varnish or shellac. The finish shall be contin- uous, level, adherent, free from cracks and dust or other inclusions, and shall not be tacky when given a visual examination. As an alter

21、nate, wood preservations and surface sealer, conforming to MIL-W-13518 and rrodified with zinc napthenate as a fungicide and “NxTRA“ brand varnish may be used. QtTALlTY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise spcified in the con

23、tract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the prformance of all in- spection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase arder, the contractor may use his awn or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requi

24、rements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to per- form any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to ensure supplies and services conform to prescribed re- quirements. 4.1.1 Responsibility

25、for compliance. All items must shall meet all require- ments of Sections 3 and 5. The inspection set forth in this specification shall become a part of the contractors overall inspection system or quality pmgram. The absence of any inspection rquirerrtents in the specification shall not relieve the

26、contractor of the responsibility of ensuring that ail oducts or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance qly with all requirements of the contract. Sampling in quality conformance does not authorize submission of known defective material, either indicated or actual, nor does it cwmnit the

Direction of fiber may also be masured by a slope of grain detector. 5. PACKAGING 5.1 Packing. Packing shall be level A or commercial. 5.1.1 Level A

34、 One hundred ples shall be packed in a snug fitting shipping container conforming to type CF, class weather resistant, variety SW, style FOL, grade V3c of PPP-B-636. Each shipping mntainer shall be closed in accordance with methcd III, water-proofed in accordance with method V, and reinforced as sp

35、ecified in the appendix of PPP-B-636. 5.1.2 Commercial. One hundred poles shall be packed in a manner to insure carrier acceptance and safe delivery at destination, at the lowest rate. Contain- ers shall be in accordance with Uniform Freight Classification Rules or regula- tions of other carriers ap

36、plicable to the mode of transportation. 5.2 Marking. In addition to any spcial marking required by the contract or order, shipping containers shall be marked in accordance with MIL-SD-129. 5.3 Palletization. When specified (see 6.2), poles packed as specified in 5.1 shall be palletized on a 4-way en

37、try pallet in accordance with load type Ia of MIL-STD-147. Pallet types shall be type I ($-way entry), type IV, or type V in accordance with MIL-STD-147. Pallets shall be fabricated from mxd groups I, II, IIL, or IV of MIL-STD-731. Each p-repared load shall be bonded With primary and secondary strap
