SCOPE 1.1 This specification covers high pressure hydraulic packingc used for sealing the counter-recoil plungers and the differential cylinder pistons and rods of hydropneumatic systems. All packings shall be the modified “U“ type and the size called for on the applicable drawings

Packing furnished under this specification shall be a product which has been tested and passed the tests specified in 4.5.1 through 4.5.4. (see 6.3)

Any change in product will necessitate retesting 3.2 Material, The packing material shall conform to applicable drawings be dense, grainless, nonporous, resilient , oil resistant, nonabrasive, shall have a low coefficient of friction and expansion, and shall be suitable for operation in contact wi

12、th oil conforming to MIL-L-17672, Military Symbol 2075. 3.3 Shape and size. 13、on or networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-MIL-P- 19152A(OS) and shall seal against the inside and outside containing walls of metal parts of standard dimensions shown on the applicable drawings for the particular hydropneumatic system. Unless otherwise specified on the applicable drawi

14、ngs, the tolerance on dimensions of the height of the packing ring shall be plus 0.02 inch, minus 0.00 inch. The packings shall conform to applicable drawings listed in 2.1. 3.4 Effect on oil. The packing shall not cause the formation of sludge or the discoloration or thickening of the oil in the di

15、fferen- tial system (see 4.5.1.2). 3.5 Reaction with metals. The packing shall not cause corrosion or pitting of the metals with which it is in contact. of the metals shall not be cause for rejecting the packing (see 4.5.1.3). Slight discoloration 3.6 Adherence to metals. The packing shall not adher

16、e or stick to the metals of the counter-recoil system with which it is in contact. The packing shall be considered as adhering or sticking to the metals if particles or pieces of the packing remain in contact with the metallic surfaces either through operation of the metallic parts in the packing or

17、 upon removal of the packing from the assembly (see 4.5.1.3). 3.7 Hardness. Packings shall show a Durometer “A“ hardness of 90 f 5 when tested as required in 4.5.1.1. 3.8 Oil absorption. The packing when in contact with oil or immersed in oil of a type used in the system, shall not show an increase

18、in volume exceeding 7.0 percent or a volume decrease exceeding 1.0 percent. exposure to oil the packing shall not break down, soften or roughen, particularly the sealing edges or lips, Upon 3.9 Temperature requirements. The packing shall function properly throughout the range of ambient temperatures

19、 at which the hydropneumatic system may be operated or stored. The temperature requirements shall be a minimum of -20“ Fahrenheit (F) and a maximum of 160“ F. shall also be capable of passing the cold temperature cycling test of 4.5.4. 29、y those products which have met stipulated requirements and have been subjected to and passed the first article tests as specified herein, The following tests comprise the parameters of performance. a. 4.5.1 - Physical properties tests b. 4.5.2 - Friction evaluation test c. 4.5.3 - Five thousand cyc

30、le endurance d. 4.5.4 - Cold temperature cycling test test 3.16 Workmanship. Workmanship shall be of such qua ity as -3 produce a uniform product in accordance with the detailed requirements of the applicable drawings and this specification. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for ins

31、pection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier is responsible for the perfor- mance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or order, the supplier may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the p

32、erformance of the inspec- tion requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed req

33、uirements, 4.2 Classification of inspections, The inspection requirements speci- fied herein are classified as follows: a. First article inspection (see 4.3 and 6.3) b. Quality conformance inspection (see 4.4) . 4.3 First article inspection. The first article inspection of the packings shall consist

34、 of all the tests and examinations of this speci- fi cat ion. 4.3.1 First article inspection samples. First article inspection samples shall be submitted as specified by the contracting officer or agency, The acceptable quality level (AQL) for first article inspection shall be 1.5 percent defective.

35、 If the AQL falls below 1.5 percent in any phase of the tests, the packing shall fail to qualify. The examina-

36、tion and tests comprising quality conformance inspection shall consist of the examination of 4.4.2, and tests 4.5.1.1, 4.5.1.2, and 4.5.1.3. 4.4.1 Sampling. 4.4.1.1 Inspection lot. A lot shall consist of finished packings of the same material, type, style, and size produced under essentially like co

37、nditions, fabricated by the same process, and produced as one continuous run or order, or part thereof, and submitted for quality conformance inspection at the same time. in accordance with MIL-STD-105. Presentation of lots shall be 4.4.1.2 Sampling for quality conformance inspection tests (see 4.5)

38、. Samples of packings, all sizes included, shall be taken from a single production lot for testing in accordance with MIL-STD- 105 at Inspection Level II. The AQL shall be 1.5 percent defective. 4.4.1.3 Sampling for visual and dimensional examination (see 4.4.2) . A random sample of packings shall b

39、e taken from each lot in accordance with MIL-STD-105, Inspection Level S-l. de fe ct i ve . The AQL shall be 2.5 percent 4.4.1.4 Examination of preparation for delivery. An examination shall be made to determine that packaging and packing requirements comply with section 5 of this specification. The

40、 inspection shall be Inspection Level S-2 and the AQL shall be 2.5 defects per hundred units in accor- dance with MIL-STD-105. 4.4.2 Examination for visual and dimensional defects. Each packing taken at random as specified in 4.3.1 or 4.4.1.3 as applicable, shall be examined to verify conformance to

41、 requirements of this specification. Examination shall be conducted in accordance with table I. Packings having one or more defects shall be rejected. 4.5 Test methods. 4.5.1 Physical properties tests. 4.5.1.1 Durometer hardness test. The packing shall be subjected to a hardness test to determine co

42、mpliance with the requirement of 3.7. The packing shall be tested for its oil absorption properties to determine compliance with the requirements of 3.8. of the packing shall be used. accurately weighed in air to the nearest milligram. The specimen shall then be weighed to the nearest milligram in distilled water at 25 centigrade (C) by suspending it in the water with a fine wire, from the total weight. weighing in water care must be taken that the specimen is free from adhering air bubbles, and, if necessary

46、, it may be first wetted by dipping into 95 percent alcohol or a 0.2 percent solution of aerosol OT in water and rinsed with distilled water. After this second weighing the specimen must be blotted dry with filter paper. then be completely immersed in a container of ASTM Oil No. 3 of method 6001, FE
