SCOPE 1.1 Scope - This specification covers the requirements for fiberglass reinforced phenolic resin laminate sheets and parts, for use in structural and other applications. 1.2 Classification - The fiber glass reinforced phenolic resin laminates - shall be classified by th

3、e fabric and mat number listed in Table I and shall be of the following grades , as specified. Grade A - Normal Mechanical Properties Grade B - Improved Mechanical Properties 2. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Preproduction sample - Prior to the beginning of quantity production, the prime contractor (see 6.3) shall furnish preproduction samples which shall be sub- jetted to testing for conformance

8、 with the requirements of this specification (see 4.3 and 6.2). - 3.2 Materials - Materials shall be as specified herein. When materials . not spe.cifically designated are used, such materials shall be subject to the approval of the procuring activity. Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or

9、 networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-MILP-25515C 3.2.1 Fabric - The fabric shall be of the continuous-filament type glass fabric and shall conform to MIL-C-9084, except the finish shall be the applicable finish used in the resin under MIL-R-9299. 3.2.2 W- Mats, when required, shall be

10、of the construction and composition, and shall have the properties, specified (see Table I and pars. 6.2 and 6.4). When the mat is not otherwise specified, it shall be as described in the process specification (see 3.3). 3.2.3 Resin - The resin used to impregnate the glass reinforcing agent shall co

11、nform to MIL-R-9299. The resin manufacturers curing instructions shall be followed in the use of catalysts, curing, and post cure cycles except where the fabricator has determined more suitable catalytic systems and curing cycles for a particular application. These systems and cycles shall be fully

12、described in the fabricators process specification and substantiated by the accompanying data required under 4.6. 3.3 Process specification - A detailed description of the manufacturing and fabricating process and methods of control of manufacturing variables in the form of a titled, numbered, and d

13、ated process specification shall be prepared by the prime contractor , or obtained from a subcontractor (see 6.3), and approved by the prime contractor. The process specification shall comply with the requirements of MILP-9400, and follow its format as closely as possible. The process spec- ificatio

14、n shall be made available by the prime contractor at the commencement of the production of material to which it applies and, thereafter, during the course of pro- duction for use of authorized Government and industry inspectors in the facilities of the prime contractor, his subcontractors, or his ve

15、ndors. It shall also be made available, on request, for review by engineers of the procuring activity. The prime contractor shall represent that compliance with such process specification will pro- duce a material meeting all the contract requirements. 3.4 Foreign materials - No metal, paper, or oth

16、er foreign material shall be present in the finished plastic materials unless allowed by the drawing for the part, 3.4.1 Mat laminates - Finely divided, inert, inorganic fillers may be used in mat laminates only, provided other specification requirements are met by the laminates. 3.5 Gap and laps -

17、Unless specifically approved by the procuring activity, I are necessary, they shall be with a lap width of at least 1/2 inch. No two laps shall there shall be no gaps between pieces of glass fabric in any lamination. When laps be superimposed upon each other in the plastic material, 3.6 Physical pro

19、hout license from IHS-,-,-MIL-P-25515C 73 W 7777706 0119215 7 MIL-P-25515C 3.7 Mechanical properties - The mechanical properties in the longitudinal direction, of a 12 ply parallel laminated flat panel impregnated with the specific resin being employed and fabricated in accordance with the contracto

20、rs approved process specification, shall conform to the requirements of Tables I and II. 3.8 Dimensions and makeup of laminates - 3.8.1 Laminated plastic sheets - 3.8.1.1 Thickness - Unless otherwise specified, laminated sheets shall con- form with the thickness and tolerance requirements listed in

21、Table III. 3.8.1.2 Length and width - Unless otherwise specified, manufacturers standard sheet sizes between 36 and 96 inches in length and between 36 and 48 inches in width will be acceptable. The length and widths of the sheets shall be as specified within a tolerance of *l. O inch. 3.8.1.3 Warp o

22、r twist - The warp or twist of the laminate shall not exceed that shown in Table IV. Percentage of warp is given in terms of length and width, and percentage of twist is given in terms of dimensions from one corner to the opposite corner. 3.8.2 Laminated plastic parts - The thickness, dimensions, ma

23、keup of the laminate, comprising the number of plies of the various fabrics or mat, their position and direction, and other specific information for laminated plastic materials shall be as specified in drawings, specifications, or contracts for the parts. 3.9 Overlays - Unless specifically approved

24、by the procuring activity, glass-fiber-base phenolic-resin laminated plastic material shall not be made with a gel resin overlay, integrally molded or otherwise, or with any other such thick resin surface or surfacing material. 3.10 Workmanship - 3.10.1 Plastic materials, in those areas which are cr

25、itical structurally or aerodynamically, shall be uniform, smooth and free from unbonded or uncured areas, gaps, cracks, holes, blisters, resin pockets, areas lacking resin, tackiness, excess surface resin, laps, wrinkles, delaminations, patches, porosity, and other similar defects. The critical stru

26、ctural and aerodynamic areas shall be as specified in drawings, specifications, or contracts for the parts. 3.10.2 Allowable defects - Allowable defects are those which do not affect . serviceability, are fully described in the contractors approved process specification. 4 -: Provided by IHSNot for

33、ecting serviceability and are fully described in the contractors approved process specification. 3.10.4 Allowable or reparable defects in excess of those listed in the approved process may be cause for rejection. Where requirements for these defects are more severe, orders, contracts, drawings, or s

34、pecifications for specific material shall govern acceptability. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility for inspection - Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase ordei, the supplier is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except

35、 as otherwise specified in the contract or order, the supplier may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in

36、the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. 4.1.1 Materials and components - In accordance with 4.1 , the supplier shall be responsible for assuring that all materials and components used have been inspected and fo

37、und to conform with all applicable requirements of this specification, and, to . the extent specified herein, of referenced specifications and standards. In case of conflict, this specification shall govern. 4.2 Classification of tests - The inspection and testing of the laminated plastic materials

38、shall be classified as follows: (a) Preproduction tests (see 4.3) (b) Quality conformance tests (see 4.4) 4.3 Preproduction tests - 4.3.1 Preproduction tests - Prior to production under contract, sample flat sheets, 12 ply, shall be parallel laminated for each grade of resin, and fabric numbers or m

39、at to be employed in production of pqrts and for each type of process (including catalysts and curing cycles) as specified M the process specification. Separate samples shall be included for each producer, if two or more producers use the same type of resins, fabric numbers, mats, or processes. Samp

40、le sheets made as indicated, shall be tested in the longitudinal direction regardless of the continuity of fabric or mat and type of lay-up of specific parts. Sample sheets shall be subjected to the preproduction tests specified in 4.3.3. Cuttings of at least five specimens (machined to size and sui

41、table for testing) from each sample flat sheet for each test required by Tables I and II and one 2- by 2-foot panel shall be furnished by the prime contractor to the procuring activity within 10 days after receipt of a specific. request therefor from the procuring activity anytime prior to the compl

43、i .: /“- MILP-25515C 4.3.:2 Exceptions - The preproduction samples, Yests, and reports required herein need not be duplicated for new orders or different parts, provided the materials and processes have not been changed and a certified statement to that effect is furnished the procuring activity wit

44、h a report of the tests made. However, the.procuring activity shall have the right to require the performance of any of the tests at any time when it is deemed necessary to determine the conformance of the material to the re- quirements of this specification. 4.3.3 Preproduction tests - Preproductio

45、n tests shall consist of all tests described under 4.6. 4.4 Quality conformance tests - The quality conformance tests shall consist of all tests described .mder 4.4.2. 4 4.1 Sampling - From each lot of sheets or parts, at least one part or sample flat sheet, 12 ply, shall be parallel laminated in ac

46、cordance with the approved process specification. Unless otherwise specified herein, five specimens for each test shall be taken from each sampIe part or sheet. 4.4.1.1 Lot - A lot shall be defined as all sheets or parts made from the “ same material and same design of part under the approved proces

47、s specification. 4.4.2 Quality conformance tests - The quality- conformance tests shall consist of the following: (. 48、ons (4.5.2) 43) -Short and long time aging at 500“ F (4.5.3) 5 . 4.4.3 Rejection and retest - In case of failure of the sample to meet the specified tests, an additional sampie representative of the same lot shall be tested. If this sample fails the specified tests, the lot shall be rejected and the

49、 material shall not be used in the production of sheets or parts. 4.4.4 Sheets and parts - Each sheet or part molded of the plastic material shall be inspected to determine conformance with the requirements of the approved 9 -r-“- .
