7、06.) 3. REQUIREMENTS “3.1 Samples. Samples,when furnishedrare solely for guidance and information to the supplier (see 6.3). Variation from the specification may appear in the sample, in which case the specification shall govern. “3.2 First article. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), before produ

8、ction is commenced, a finished scarf shall be submitted, or made available, to the contracting officer or his authorized representative for approval. The approval of the first article authorizes the commencement of production, but does not releve the supplier- ofrecponsibility for compliance with ap

10、06 0380957 O m MIL-S-l7868B(MC) “3.3 Material. “3.3.1 Yarns. “3.3.1.1 Wool yarn. The yarn shall be a 2-ply well carded and combed worsted yarn made of fleece or pulled sheeps wool, or a combination of both, not lower in grade than 64s U. S. Standard and of sufficient staple length and twist to meet

11、the requirements of this speci- fication and U. S. Department of Agriculture test methods as applicable, and shall be tested as specified in Section 4, Table II. “3.3.1.2 Cotton yarn. The cotton yarn for the doups sliall be 3-ply, having sufficient strength to maintain the selvages in their proper;-

12、 alignment without slipping or fraying when tested as specified in Section 4, Table II. The yarn shall be dyed scarlet to match the color of the scarf . “3.3.2 Cotton thread. The cotton thread for sewing the label to the scarf shall be type IC2, mercerized finish, ticket No. A, 3-ply, conforming to

13、V-T-276. The thread shall be dyed to match scarlet shade w, Cable No. 66040 and shall show good colorfastness to laundering, perspiration, wet-dry cleaning, crocking and light, equal to or better than the standard sample. When no standard sample is available, t.he thread shall show fair fastness to

14、laundering, perspiration, wet-dry cleaning, crocking and light. “3.4 Label. Each scarf shall havean identification label conforming to type I, class 1 of DDD-L-20. The size of the label shall be a minimum of 1-1/4 inches by 2-3/4 inches. The scarf is intended to be dry cleaned. The label shall conta

The identif

16、ication label shall be positioned on the underside of the scarf, midway between the selvages and with the bottom edge 1/4 inch above the fringe at either end. The label shall be stitched to the scarf 1/8 inch from each edge, stitch type 301, conforming to FED7STD-751, 6 to 8 stitches per inch. Note:

17、 Size of characters for “Name of Supplier shall be a minimum of 6 points (approximately 1/16 inch). “3.5 Desiqn. The scarf shall be the flat woven type with a fringe on each end and a selvage on each edge. “3.6 Construction. *3.6.1 Weave. The weave, when tested as specified in Section 4, Table III,

18、shall be a 2/2 twill to the right with three cotton ends on each edge (two standard and one doup) to prevent fraying after cutting. “3.6.2 Phvsical requirements. The finished scarves shall conform to the requirements shown in Table I, when tested as specified in Section 4, Table II, Table I - Physic

21、 The woven fabric of the finished scarf shall contain not less than 95 percent wool based on the dry weight of the specimen when tested as specified in Section 4, Table II, *3.7 Finished measurements. After conditioning for 4 hours, both the length and width of the scarf shall be measured at three separate points, the location of the measure- ments marked with indelible ink and the average length and width co

25、mputed. The scarf shall be immersed in a good suds made with neutral chip soap and water at 1000 F. After immersion, the solution shall be squeezed through the scarf two or three times and the position of scarf in the hands changed and the squeezing repeated. This alternate squeezing and changing po

26、sition shall take 1 minute. The scarf shall then be given two rinses in clean water at 100+l F for 1 minute each, handling as in the soap solution. It sha1,l be rolled in a towel to remove the excess water and laid flat on a screen and dried either at room temperature or in a heated dryer. Care must

27、 be taken ak all times to prevent distortion. The scarf shall then be dampened and pressed on a flat bed press. After pressing and conditioning, the scarf shall be measured in the same manner as before immersion, at the locations marked, and the average length and width again computed. The shrinkage

Packing shall be level B or C, as specified (see 6.2) . *5.2.1 Level B. One hundred-fifty (150) scarves, package
