Except for the battery, trucks covered by this specification shall be com- pleted and ready for operation when deliv- ered. Batteries, if required, shall be as speci- fied in 3.5.3. Tiucks shall be constructed and equipped
17、 to meet all requirements specified herein. The end items and major and minor assemblies shall be new and of a standard de- sign or model product used by the end item manufacturer current at time of bidding, except for such minor modifications from manufacturers standard as may be required to confoi
18、m to these specification require- ments. The component paids of the unit need not be the products of the same manufac- turer. However, the manufacturers shall be so established in the powered industrial trucks industiy that prompt and continuing service and deliveiy of replacement repair parts may b
19、e assured. 3.1.1 Pwproductm model testng and ap- pwwal. Unless otherwise specified, before pro- duction is commenced, a preproduction model( shall be submitted or made ready for examination and testing, by the Contract- ing Officer or his authorized representative. Such approved preproduction model
20、may be presented for acceptance as the last unit foi. deliveiy under this contract after being re- habilitated to reflect a new appearance. This will include the furnishing of new tires. 3.1.2 1Mate1h.Z. Material not defnitely spe cified shall be at least equal to the end item manufacturers noimal c
21、ommercial product, and shall meet test requirements specified in section 4. Design of trucks covered by this specification
25、 and all components therein, shall conform to accepted design practices and shall insure safe, efficient, and economical operation undex normal service conditions, There shall be no evidence of accelerated wear, or failures, or permanent defoimations when operated under noimal service condi- tiOnS.
26、3.1.3.1 Safety. The truck shall coxorm to the applicable requii-ements of Underwriters Laboratories, Inc., Inteinal Combustion En- gine-Powered Industrial Truclrs (UL 558, Type D, as applicable), unless modified herein. 3.1.4 Cert.ificates of colnpl2cGnce. when spe- cified herein, or upon request of
27、 the Test Officer, a certificate of compliance with the requirements of this specification shall be furnished. 30、meet the applicable requirements of Specification MILG-11276 and that a model of the engine furnished has successfully passed the qualifications listed therein. The certificate of compliance shall list each engine furnished by complete model number and serial number. Unless otheiwise specified, prod
31、uction control tests, production tests and inspections shall be in accordance with established commercial practice for the type engine to be supplied. Unless otherwise specified, the equipment shall not be treated to resist fungus and moisture. 3.2.1.2 Commercial indwtrial. The commer- cial industri
32、al diesel engine shall be equiva- lent in design, power and size to the engine normaily furnished by the end item manufac- turer in similar commercial products and shall provide sufficient power and torque to meet the performance and operational re- quirements specified herein. If there is no commer
33、cial counterpart, the engine shall be equivalent in design, size and horsepower to engines furnished in competitive commercial models, The complete system shall be ar- ranged to fit within the existing engine en- closure with no 90“ fittings or traps in the air lines and shall be readily accessible
34、for maintenance. 3.2.2 Engine accessories. Engine accessories shall be as specified herein. 3.2.2.1 Electycal system. The truck shall be provided with a 12-volt starting, lighting and other electrical equipment approved by the bureau or agency concerned. All wires and cables shall he adequately supp
35、orted to mini- mize chafng and provide adequate clearance vibration, cables and wiring shall be pro- tected by flexible tubing or suitably har- nessed. Grommets shall be provided when- ever wiring passes through bulkheads, parti- tions OP structural members, or the wiring shall be suitably fastened
36、to prevent chafing or abrasion. All components of the electrical system shall be weather resistant. 3.2.2.2 Generatw. The generator shall be a 2 brush automotive type either direct driven or driven by “V“ belts conforming to Speci- fication MIL-B - 11040. Maximum capacity shall be not less than 18 a
37、mperes. Generator output shall start at manufacturers recom- mended engine idle speed. The generator shall be cooled by air drawn through openings in the generator by a fan mounted on the arma- ture shaft, 3.2.2.3 Generator regulator. The genesatos regulator shall be a three unit type, consist- ing
38、of a cubout relay, a voltage regulator and a current regulator. The regulator shall be conveniently located for ease of adjustment and maintenance. The cut-out relay shall close the circuit between the generator and battery when the generator voltage rises above that of the battery. The cut-out rela
39、y shall open when the generator voltage falls below that of the battery. The voltage regu- lator unit shall control the generator voltage within a range of 13.8 to 14.8 by generator field control. The current limiter unit shall hold current output to that of the generator rating. A screw or other ad
40、justing device to regulate the charging voltage shall be pro- vided. The adjusting device may be accessible either before or after seal is broken. 3.2.2.4 Starting sgstem. The starting system shall include a starting motor switch, a start- ing motor, and necessary miring and cable. The starting moto
41、r switch shall be a solenoid plunger type inserted in the circuit between from moving pa 3 speeds forward and 3 speeds reverse for type V; and 4 speeds forward and 4 speeds reverse for types VI and VII. Trans- missions having an equivalent torque multi- plication range will be considered as meeting
42、the above speed requirements. The transmis- sion shall be designed to permit smooth shift- ing between speed ranges, up and down, while the truck is in motion, if shifting is neces- sary to permit continuous operation. Each gear, shaft, and axle shall be of high grade heat-treated alloy steel. All r
43、otating shafts and axles shall be supported on antifriction bearings, except that this requirement need not apply to the reverse idler shaft. All gears shall operate in lubricant, and a standard pressure grease lubrication system shall be provided for all friction parts not lubricated from normal tr
44、ansmission reservoir. Gear housings shall be equipped with filler plugs and magnetic drain plugs. All required drain plugs, check plugs, or oil checking and filling devices in transmission, fluid coupling, or torque converter shall be readily accessible without removing major components. All casting
45、s shall be of such quality as to pre- clude weeping of internal fluids through the castings as a result of porosity and to permit machining for leak-free sealing at cover and closure points. Castings shall provide sur- faces square to bolt holes or shall be suitably spot faced 0x1 machined to assure
46、 proper seat- ing of fasteners such as bolt, loclrwashers and nut assemblies and cap screw. Differen- tial ring and pinion gears, when used, shall be adjustable in accordance with good auto- motive practice. With drive wheels locked, the transmission and drive assembly shall be capable of withstandi
47、ng a 150 percent of maximum bare engine torque as published by engine manufacturer, applied to the input shaft to the transmission without failure of any component. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), a cestificate of compliance shall be provided in lieu of test.
