Valves, fittings, and flanges shall be preserved as speci

14、fiedfor level A (see 3.8.1.1) except thst unit containers (see 3.8.1.1.3.4) shall be asfollows :(a) Paperboard containers shall be of the domestic or non-weatherresistant type, class or variety, as applicable and,(b) The fiberboard box shall be of the clsss-domestic/f ire-retardsntmaterial (see 3.8.

15、2.3(b). The box closure shall be in accordancewith method I using pressure-sensitive adhesive tape.3.8.1.3 Commercial. Valves, fittings, and flanges shall be presened (unitprotected) in accordance with ASTM D 3951.3.8.2 Packing. Packing shall be level A, B, C, or commercial as specified (see6.2).3.8

16、.2.1 General requirements for 1evels A. B. and C. Shipping containers shallbe of a minimum weight and cube, consistent with the requirements of thisspecification. Containers listed herein shall not preclude the use of othercontainers not listed, provided they meet the requirements of the individualc

17、ontainer and have been approved by the contracting activity. Shipping containers,when packed with the same items, shall be of similar construction, of uniform size,and of minimum cube and tare, consistent with protection required, and shall containidentical quantities of identical items when practic

18、able. Items packaged in acontainer designed as a shipping container shall be cushioned; blocked, braced, andanchored to prevent movement and damage and shall meet the rough handling test asspecified (see 4.3. 2). Wood, plyvood, or cleated containers shall be used for anindividual item weighing 150 p

19、ounds or more and for items secured to the base andskids , or equivalent reinforcements, with hexhead or carriage bolts wheneverpracticable . Crates shall be used for the shipment of individual items esceedingthe weight limitation specified for wood and plywood container specification. Opencrates sh

20、all be used only for the shipment of items which are not readily susceptibleto damage from outside forces and which require only limited protection. In general,items which are designated for outdoor instalbti?n and use, or which are of ruggedconstruction, may be advantageously shipped in open crates

21、 and, unless otherwisespecified (see 6.2) , shall be shrouded with flexible waterproof barrier materialconforming to PPP-B-1055. The multiple packing of items of different stock numberswill not be permitted in shipping containers , unless the items of each stock numberare intermediate packaged in fi

22、berboard boxes as specified in 3.8.1.1.3.4.3.8.2.2 Critical close tolerance eauiument. In addition to any preservationand packing requirements specified by the product specification or packagingrequirements code, equipments which are certified to MIL-STD-740-1 or MIL-sTD-7L0-2,as applicable, shall b

23、e protected against damage resulting from environmentalconditions, multiple handling and the hazards of transportation (rough handling,shock, vibration, etc.). Shipping containers or method of packing utilizing shockand/or vibration a75itigation systems shall only use mounts which have “captivefeatu

24、res” incorporated in their design. 25、othervise specif fed (see 6.2),all lumber and plywood including laminated veneer material used inshipping container and pallet construction, members, blocking,bracing, and reinforcing shall be fire-retardant treated materialconforming to IiIL-L-19140 as follows:Levels A and B - Type II ,- weather re

26、sistant.Category 1 - general use.Livel C -Type I- non-weather resistant.Category 1 - general use.(b) JUberboard. Fiberboard used in the construction of unit containersshall be of class-domestic, non-weather resistant fiberboard andcleated fiberboard boxes including interior packing forms (see3.8.1.2

27、(b) and shall meet the flameapread index and the specificoptic density requirements of ASTM-D-4727 and amendment thereto.3.8.2.4 pir shioment. Packing for air shipment shall be in accordance withNIL-A-25175. Supplemental information is provided in 6.7.3.8.2.5 Cushioning. anchorinv blockine. bracin.

28、and waterurOOfinE.Cushioning, anchoring, blocking, bracing and waterproof ing of container contentsshall be in accordance with MIL-STD -1186, tiIL-P-116, and the applicable containerspecification or appendix thereto. Material used should provide mintmum volumepackaging, and shall not use plastic mat

29、erial unless required to provide necessarydegree of physical, mechanical or environmental protection. Supplemental informationis provided in 6.7.3.8.2.6 Levels A. B. and C containers. Material presemed as specified(see 3.8.1.1. 2), shall be packed in exterior shipping containers for the level ofpack

When containersare packed with products or interior packs meeting the following Requirements, nocaseliner will be required:(a) Items which are completely painted and have no unprotected criticalsurfaces.(b) rge items which

34、 all materials exterior to the water-vaporbarrier hive water resistance equal to or exceeding the waterresistance requirements of ASIM D 5118 fiberboard boxes, Grades Vor V.(e) Intermediate packs (or unit packs when no intermediate pack iarequired) for which the container conforms to weather .reeist

35、antclasa in accordance with ASTM D 5118, and is closed, sealed andbanded as specified in 3.8.2.6.1.2.3.8.2 .6.1.2 Closure. Container closure, reinforcing, or banding shall be inaccordance with ASTM D .1974. Weather-resistant fiberboard boxes shall be closed inaccordance with method 2B3, 4 or 6 and r

36、einforced with non-metallic strapping orreinforced tape banding. Domestic or fire retardant fiberboard boxes shall be closedin accordance with any 2B closure method using pressure-sensitive tape.3.8.2 .6.1.3 WaiPht. Wood, plywood, and cleated type containers exceeding 150pounds gross weight (see 3.8

37、.2.1) shall be modified by the addition of skids, or askid or sill type base in accordance with lfIL-STD-2073-l and the applicable containerspecification or appendix therato.3.8.2 .6.2 Flttinm and flanees WeiEhinE a75ore than 20 uoundq. Fittings andflangea weighing more than 20 pounds shall be packe

38、d for the level specified in3.8.2.6, except that flanges that can ba effectively packed by bundling may bestacked and securely bolted in bundles face to face, or hub to hub, with flanged faceout and with outer flange faces fully protected by wood, pressed wood, metal, orsimilar flange covers bolted

39、to the face. When wood or metal flange covers are used,a neutral greaseproof barrier material shall be inserted between the flange face andthe flange cover. When a75etal covers are used, they shall be painted or protectedagainst corrosion with a preseative compound as specified in 3.8.1.1.3.1. Fitti

40、ngsweighing over 50 pounds, except butt welding or silver brazing fittings which do notrequire packing for physical protection, shall have flange faces of fittingsprotected in the same reamer as flanges. Soil pipe or case-iron water pipe fittingsand flanges in volt- face bundles may be shipped unpac

41、ked or may be strapped onpallets to facilitate handling. 1 .3.8.3 Commercial uacking. Commercial packing shall be in accordance with ASTMD 3951 and herein.3.8.3.1 Container modification. Shipping containers exceeding 150 pounds groaaweight shall have a minimum of two, 3-inch by 4-inch nominal wood s

42、kids laid flat,or a skid and sill type basa which will support the material and facilitate handlingby a75echanical handling equipment during shipment, stowage and storage.3.9 Provisioned items (rer.airDarts. Provisioned items (repair parts) shallbe preserved, packed, and marked in accordance with MI

43、L-s-196 for thd level specified(see 6.2).3.10 Falletization. Unless otherwise specified (ace 6.2) material shall bepalletized in accordance with MIL-STD-2073-1 when one of the following criteria isa75et.(a) Load shall consist of four or more unskiddad containers.(b) The load shall utilize a minimum

In addition to any special marking required (see 6.2) , markingsshall be in accordance with t41L-STD-129.1 3.11.1 SDacial marking. In addition t

45、o the markings as specified in 3.11, thefollowing shall apply.3.11.1.1 g-rinzq. Interior packs containing O-rings shall be marked inaccordance with MIL-P-4861.3.11.1.2 Asbestos items . h asbestos caution label shall be affixed to eachinterior (unit and intermediate) pack and shipping cOntainer (see

46、3.3.3 thrOusb3.3.3.2). The caution label shall conform to 29 CFR, part 1910, section 145 and1001. The caution label shall state the following:“CAUTIONCONTAINS ASBESTOS FIBERS ,AVOID CREATING DUST .BRRATHING ASBESTOS DUSTMAY CAUSE SERIOUS BODILY HARM. m3.11.1.3 Critical close tolerance eouiument. Uni

47、t packs, shippingcontainers, and unpacked shipments of noise tested equipments (sea 3.8.2.2) shallbe marked with the following:“CRITICAL, CLOSE TOLERANCEOPERATING EQUIPMSNTHANDLE WITH CARE00 NOT DROP OR SUBJECTITO SHOCKS OR JARS “Markings shall be stenciled, red color, and applied on two sides and b

Letters shall be of minimum 1-1/2 inches high, exceptfor small containers with insufficient space, ,in which case letters shall be ofsuch size as to be legible. In addition, arrows knd the word, “UP”, center ofbalance, sling or lifting point markings as indicate

49、d in 141L-STD-2073 -1 shallapply.3.12 .!%ecial instruction.3.12.1 Technical manuals. Technical manusls, which accompany shipments thatare packed level A, B, or C shall be packaged in transparent waterproof plasticbags, a75inimum 4 a75il thick. Closure shall be by heat sealing. For Army, technicala75anusls shall be packed in accordance with method IC-1 of MIL-P-116. Technicalmanuals shall not be packed within any sealed flexible barrier matbrial used toenclose the item(s)
