This specification covers electric-hydraulic, vertical shaft, anchor windlass installation on Naval ships. The windlass is used for lowering and raising an anchor and chain vhen anchoring the sh

Cast iron, malleable iron, and semi-steel shall not be used for any part unless specifically approved by the contracting activity concerned for the parti

Class 1 windlasses shall consist of two wildcats, two separate capstan heads, wildcat hand brakes, electric brakes, wildcat locking heads, two slactric-hydraulic power plants, chunge-over valve,

Hand brake and hydraulic controls shall be pedestal xnounted on the deck with a second set of controls located beow deck in the windlass room. Wildcats and caps

Hand brake and hydraulic controls shall be pedestal mounted on the weather deck with a:second set of controls l
39、ocated below deck in the windlass room. 3.2.3 Class 3 windlasses. Class 3 windlasses shall consist of two wildcats and one separate vertical capstan head driven by a single electric-hydraulic power plant located below deck in the windlass room, together with expansion and storage tank, bedplates, ha
40、nd brake and hydraulic controls, locking heads, wildcat hand brakes, electric brake, gearing, and all other operating and control accessories necessary for complete and independent operation of the windlass. The two wildcats and capstan head shall be mounted on a bedplate with the capstan head centr
41、ally located above the wildcats to provide clear leads for B rope. Each -wildcat and the capstan head shall be mounted on vertical shafts, the capstan drfve being taken off the wildcat driving mechanism. The capstan drive may rotate with the wiidcato.
