The tolerances shall not exceed those specified in ANSI 3.5 Marking for identi
26、fication. -Unless otherwise. specified (see 6.21, wire H35.2 for straightness, specified length, and diameter of rod and wire. . and rod shall be marked in accordance with FED-STD-184 3.6 Material in sizes not covered in this specification. Mechanical properties and tolerances of material fall-ing o
27、utside the diameter limits (see tables II and III) covered in this specification shall be as specified in the. procurement documents (see 6.2). 3.7 Heat treatment. . Heat treatment shall be in accordance with the requirements of MIL-H-6088. 3.8 Workmanship. Rod and wire shall be uniform in quality a
28、nd condition, clean, sound, smooth, and free from hard spots, i nterna.1 voids, kinks, damaged . ends, longitudinal surface defects appearing as cracks, folds, or crevices, and other defects detrimental to processing and service appl-ications. Normal oxidation occurring during heat-treatment shl.1 n
29、ot be cause for rejection. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS. .4.1 Re.sponsi bi 1 i ty for inspection. . Unless Othe-rwise Specified in the O contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified
30、in the contract or order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for performance of the inspection requi.rements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any .of the inspections set forth in the specification where
31、such fnspections are deemed necessary to assure that supplies -and services conform to prescribed requirement-s. 4.2 Sarllpling. 4.2 u. A lot shall consist of an identified quantity of rod and wire of the same alloy, temper and size trace-able to a heat-treated lot or lots and , subj-ected to inspec
32、tion at one time 4.2.2 Sampling for chemical analysis. 4.2.2.1 Ingot sampling. At least. one sample shall be taken for each group of ingots of the same.alloy -poured simul taneously from the.same source of mol ten metal by the producer and analyzed to determine conformance to 3.2 (see 4.4.1). reject

34、C * 4.2.2.2 Finish product analysis. When compTiance with 3.2 has not been established in accordance with 4.2.2.1, samples shall be selected as follows: From materi al having a nominal weight of less than one pound per 1 i near foot, one sample shall be selected from each lot weighing 1,000 pounds o
35、r less; from lots weighing more than 1,000 pounds, one additional sample shall be taken for each 1,000 pounds or fraction thereof in excess of the first 1,000 pounds. From material having a nominal weight of one pound or- more per 1 inear foot r one sample shall be taken from each lot consisting of
36、1,000 feet or less; from lots consisting of more than 1,000 feet, one additional sample shall be taken for each 1,000 feet or fraction thereof in excess of the first 1,000 feet. Only one sample shall be taken from any orle piece when more than one piece i S avai lable. Not more than one analysi S sh
37、all be required per piece. 4.2.3 Samples for mechanical property data. 4.2.3.1 Number of test sample in temper supplied. From material having a nominal weight of less than one pound per linear foot, one tension test sample shall be selected from each lot weighing 1,000 pounds or less; from lots weig
38、hing mre than 1,000 pounds, one additional sample shall be taken for each 1,000 pounds or fraction thereof in excess of the first 1,000 pounds. From material having a weight of one pound or more per linelr foot, one tension test sample shall be taken from each lot consisting of 1,000 feet or less; f
39、rom lots consisting of more than 1,000 feet, one additional sample shall be taken for each. 1,000 feet or fraction thereof in excess of the first 1,000 feet. Only one tension test shall be taken from any one piece when more than one piece is avai 1 able. 4.2.3.2 Number of tests after heat treatment.
40、 From heat-treatable material ordered in the O or one of the H tempers an additional number of specimens equal to those required by 4.2.3.1 shall be taken and tested for conformance to 3.3.2, as appl icnble, after h-aving been processed to the T4, T6, T61, T73, or T81 tempers as specified (see 6.2)
41、.The contractor shall have the option of performing either the tension or shear test in lieu of performing both tests. However, the material tested must meet all the applicable requirements of table III. 4.2.4 kmpling for visual and dimensional examination. Each rod and wire. shall be examined to de
42、termine conformance to this specification with respect to ;/or-kmanship and identification marking. Examinations for dimensions shali .be made at planned intervals to insure conformance to the tolerances specified. On approval of the procuring activity, a system of statistical qual ty control may be
43、 used for dimensional, marking, and workmanship -examination. 4.2.5 Sampling for packaging examination. Sampling shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-105, inspection level S-l. Each sample rod and wire selected in accordance with 4.2.4 shall be visually examined snd measured to verify .conformance to the specification (see 3.8). A magnifier with capability to magnify to 1OX may. be
45、used for visual examination. 4.3.2 Preservation, packaging, packing, and marking for shipment. -The preservation, packaging, packing, and marking for shipment shalT be examined to determine compliance with the requirements of section 5. The AQL shall be 1.5 percent defective. 4.4 Test methods. 4.4.1
46、 Chemical analysi sr Chem.ica1 analysis shall be made by the wet chemical method in accordance with method 111 of FED-STD-151, or by the spectrochemical method in accordance with method 112 of FED-STD-151. 4.412 Mechanical properties. testing. 4.4.2.1 Types pf specimen and test method. Specimens for
47、 determining tensile properties shall be prepared and tested in accordance with ASTM B 557: -Elhen practical, the material shall be tested in full section. For material which can not practically be tested in full section, the standard round type specimen in. the largest size. applicable shall be use
48、d 4.4.2.2 Shear test. When performed, the- shear test shall be made in a fixture-substantially in accordance with figure 1 of this specification. Alternatively, 9 double-shear fixture conforming with the requirements of Test 13, MIL-STD-1312, may-be used. Fixtures of other designs may be used upon t
49、he approval of the procuringactivity. -The shearing strength of the rod and wire s.ha11 be calculated using the actual measured diameter of the test sample. 4.5 Rejection and retest. Failure of a specimen to meet the test requirements shall be cause for rejection of the lot. At the discretion of the- purchaser, retest may be permitted. A retest sample of three specimens shall
