、r sources NMX-J-038/1-ANCE-2005, Equipos de Soldadura Elctrica por Arco Parte 1: Fuentes de Poder para Soldadura 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this publication the terms and definitions given in NMX-J-038/1-ANCE-2005 and the following apply. 3.1 Energy consumption Power or other energy

、 consumed by a welding power source for a period of one hour at the conventional welding current and corresponding conventional load voltage at the maximum duty cycle rating of the welding power source 3.2 Standby energy consumption Power or other energy consumed by a welding power source for a peri

、od of one hour under no-load conditions for supply network-connected welding power sources that are not provided with: a) a supply circuit on/off switching device that removes all power from ungrounded conductors, or b) instructions for a permanent connection to a disconnect device. NOTE By design,

、most power sources for manual welding systems do not have any standby energy consumption. 4 Test Conditions The tests shall be carried out on new, dry and completely assembled welding power sources at an ambient air temperature between 10 C and 40 C. Liquid-cooled welding power sources shall be test

、ed with liquid conditions as specified by the manufacturer. Engine driven welding power sources shall be tested with fuel conditions as specified by the manufacturer. The supply voltage of supply-network-connected welding power sources shall be measured at the point of coupling of the welding power

、source to the supply network. The test load shall be a practically non-inductive constant resistive load having a power factor not less than 0.99. The load voltage shall be measured at the welding power source welding circuit connections. For welding power sources that are provided with electrode an

、d work leads, the load voltage shall be measured at the point of connection of the electrode and work leads internal to the welding power source. NOTE The measurement can be affected by the impedance of the supply network (see Annex A). EW 9-2012 - 2 - 2012, NEMA 5 Measuring Instruments A power mete

、r shall be used to measure the energy consumption of supply network-connected welding power sources. The accuracy of electrical measuring instruments shall be 1 % of full-scale reading or better. 6 Energy consumption units The energy consumption units for supply network-connected welding power sourc

、es shall be kWh/h. The energy consumption units for engine driven welding power sources shall be g/h or l/h, as appropriate. NOTE The utilization of welding power sources varies greatly depending on the application. Welding can be sporadic and infrequent, or regular and frequent. In many application

、s, welding is performed for fractions of an hour per day. The use of the unit kWh/h and l/h enables the user to determine realistic energy consumption per unit of time based on frequency of use. For example, if the energy consumption units are Y kWh/h and the user will be welding Z hours per year at

、 100% output, then the annual energy consumption is Y kWh/h multiplied by Z h/year. 7 Energy consumption test 7.1 Energy consumption under normal operating conditions 7.1.1 General test conditions The welding power source shall be tested at the conventional welding current and the corresponding conv

、entional load voltage at the 100% duty cycle rating of the welding power source. For power sources that are not rated at a 100% duty cycle, the welding power source shall be operated at the maximum rated duty cycle. To account for the idle or no-load states, the power consumption shall be measured d

、uring the load period at the rated welding current and the corresponding conventional load voltage, and during the idle period. The duty cycle shall be used to average the power consumption values into an overall energy consumption value. EXAMPLE For a power source rated at 40% duty cycle (40% on ti

、me, 60% idle time) consuming 10 kW under load and 0.1 kW at idle, the overall energy consumption is calculated as follows: (10 kW x 0.4) + (0.1 kW x 0.6) / (0.4 + 0.6) = 4.06 kW When the power source is operated for one hour under these conditions, the energy consumed is 4.06 kWh. A multi-process we

、lding power source shall be operated in the output process mode resulting in the maximum output power. Auxiliary power outputs and power supplies to external devices shall not be loaded. Energy or fuel consumption shall be measured after the welding power source is operated for a period of time suff

、icient to achieve thermal equilibrium. NEMA EW 9-2012 - 3 - 2012, NEMA 7.1.2 Supply network-connected welding power sources A welding power source that operates at multiple supply voltages shall be operated at the rated supply voltage resulting in the maximum energy consumption. The energy consumpti

、on under normal operating conditions shall be recorded in kWh/h. NOTE The measurement can be affected by the impedance of the supply circuit (see Annex A). 7.1.3 Engine-driven welding power sources A welding power source shall be tested using an external fuel source having a predetermined mass or vo

、lume of fuel. The mass or volume of fuel consumed shall be recorded as the energy consumption under normal operating conditions in g/h or l/h, as appropriate. 7.2 Standby energy consumption A supply network-connected welding power source that operates at multiple supply voltages shall be operated at

、 the rated supply voltage resulting in the maximum standby energy consumption. A supply network-connected welding power source shall be operated with no load on the output for a period of time sufficient to achieve thermal equilibrium. The standby energy consumption shall be recorded in Wh/h. This t

、est is not required for: a) supply network-connected welding power sources provided with a supply circuit on/off switching device that removes all power from ungrounded conductors; b) supply network-connected welding power sources provided with instructions for a permanent connection to a disconnect

、 device; c) engine-driven welding power sources. 8 Energy consumption information A rating plate, marking, label or hang tag conveying energy consumption information to the customer shall be attached to each welding power source, or where permitted by local or national requirements, to its packaging

、. For equipment with multiple supply voltages, the manufacturer shall report the energy consumption at the rated supply voltage that resulted in maximum energy consumption. In addition, the manufacturer may report the energy consumption for other rated supply voltages. Markings and labels shall be c

、lear and legible when received by the customer. Indelibility is not required. NOTE Annex B provides examples of energy consumption information attached to a welding power source. (informative).
