SCOPE: The scope of this document is limited to the compatibility of typical fluids that may come in contact with PTFE hose assemblies. PTFE hose assemblies may

11、be braided with CRES wire, polyester or para-aramid fibers. Hose assemblies may be equipped with aluminum, CRES, titanium or nickel alloy fittings; and with fire resistant cover materials. All of these constituent materials of PTFE hose assemblies must be compatible with all of the fluids found in a

12、ny particular application. 1.1 Purpose: The purpose of AIR5693 is to provide a reference listing the compatibility between the listed fluids and the common types of materials found in PTFE aerospace hose assemblies. It is incumbant upon the responsible engineer to ensure all of the materials used wi

13、thin their system are compatible. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS: The following publications form a part of this document to the extent specified herein. The latest issue of SAE publications shall apply. The applicable issue of other publications shall be the issue in effect on the date of the purchase ord

33、R5693 Page 6 of 13_ 3.1 CRES, Nickel based alloys and titanium fittings and AS1946 or MIL-DTL-25579 hose assemblies are suitable for operational temperatures between -67 to 450 F. Most other CRES wire reinforced hose assemblies are temperature limited to 400 F. The PTFE tube material properties limi

34、ts the hose assemblys temperature range. 3.2 PTFE hose assemblies with aluminum fittings and tube assemblies are suitable for operational temperatures between -67 to 275 F. 3.3 Most aerospace applications employ fluids that are not corrosive to the above listed engineering materials. However, specia

35、l attention must be made to cleaning and inspection fluids, solvents, etc. that may inadvertently come in contact with any of these materials. 3.4 In the event of questions concerning the compatibility of any particular fluid with any of the above types of metals, it is the responsibility of the sys

36、tem (user) engineer to conduct the necessary compatibility tests. 4. POLYTETRAFLUOROETHYLENE (PTFE) TUBE: TABLE 2 - Corrosive Agents That Attack Aerospace PTFE Material Type Known Corrosive Agents Comments Polytetrafluoroethylene; PTFE Base resin per ASTM D 1457, Type III, Grade 2 or Grade 3 None PT

37、FE is not attacked by weak or strong acids or by weak or strong alkalies; nor is it attacked by organic solvents 4.1 MIL-DTL-25579 allows for fluid and ambient temperatures between -67 to 450 F. Most other CRES wire reinforced hose assembly types (such as AS1227, AS1339) are limited to 400 F maximum

Casual contact by chemical agents is unavoidable and must be immediately wiped off. 5.1 It is important that these materials be kept free of petroleum and other fluid contaminants to prolong their life. 5.2 Silicone rubber shr

41、inks as it heat ages and may crack as it shrinks. 5.3 Silicone rubber may swell, blister and crack when it absorbs many of the listed fluids. Casual contact means that the silicone rubber must be kept dry. In the event fluids come in contact with silicone rubber, it is recommended the fluid be immed

42、iately wiped off. 6. PARA-ARAMID YARN REINFORCED HOSE AND HOSE ASSEMBLIES (CITED IN AS1975): TABLE 4 Compatible With Comments PARA-ARAMID (p-aramid (Kevlar) (m-aramid (Nomex) AS1241 Fire resistant phosphate ester hydraulic fluid -The AMS materials and para-aramid reinforcement are compatible with ph

43、osphate ester and/or silicate ester hydraulic fluids. Test assemblies are conditioned either by AS1241, Type IV or by MIL-PRF-83282 fluid. Exposure time to be determined by test for each application. -Para-aramid fibers are sensitive to and may be damaged by direct sunlight. -Operational temperature
