SCOPE 1.1 Form This specification covers a synthetic rubber in the form of sheet, strip, tubing, extrusions, and molded
、 shapes. 1.2 Application Primarily for packing and sealing joints which come in contact with aircraft fuels, hot petroleum-base lubricating oils, and ethylene glycol from -20 to +220 F (-29 to +104 C) This material has fair resistance to all fluids listed. Where better resistance to a particular flu
、id is required, use the AMS for material compounded specifically for good resistance to that fluid. 1.3 Safety - Hazardous Materials While the materials, methods, applications, and processes described or referenced in this specification may involve the use of hazardous materials, this specification
、does not address the hazards which may be involved in such use. It is the sole responsibility of the user to ensure familiarity with the safe and proper use of any hazardous materials and to take necessary precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of all personnel involved. 2. Unless specified otherwise by contractual requirements, testing may be performed either at the product vendors own test facility, at the mixer, or at a suitable independent test facility. Pu

SAE AMS3220G Page 4 of 6 4.2 Classification of Tests 4.2.1 Acceptance Tests Tests for the following requirements are accept
、ance tests and shall be performed on each lot: TABLE 1 Requirement Paragraph Reference Hardness, Original Properties 3.2.1.1 Elongation, Original Properties 3.2.1.2 Elongation Change in Oil 3.2.2.2 Volume Change in Fuel 3.2.3.2 4.2.2 Qualification Tests Qualification testing shall consist of all of
、the physical property requirements listed in 3.2 and shall be performed prior to certification of materials to this specification, when a change in ingredients and/or processing requires reapproval as in 4.5.2, and/or when purchaser deems confirmatory testing to be required. 4.2.3 Test Samples 4.2.3
、.1 For qualification testing, specimens shall be prepared from 6 inch (152 mm) square by 0.075 inch 0.008 (1.90 mm 0.20) thick molded test slabs per ASTM D 3182 compounded for the same intended curing process as the end product. 4.2.3.2 For acceptance testing, sufficient material shall be taken at r
、andom from each lot of product to provide specimens to perform all required tests. The number of determinations for each requirement shall be as specified in the applicable test procedure or, if not specified therein, not less than three. If specimens cannot be prepared from the product, test specim
、ens prepared from the same batch of material and in the same state of cure as the product shall be used. At a minimum, specific gravity tests shall be conducted on the end item or a section removed from the end item (except as noted in 4.2.3.2.3). 4.2.3.2.1 When the product supplied is an extrusion
、of such shape that suitable test specimens cannot be cut from the product, a separate extruded flat strip test sample, 0.075 inch 0.008 (1.90 mm 0.20) thick, produced from the same production batch of compound, in the same state of cure as the product being supplied, shall be used to prepare test sp
、ecimens. 4.2.3.2.2 When the product is a molded item of such shape that suitable test specimens cannot be cut, a slab 6 inches (152 mm) square by 0.075 inch 0.008 (1.90 mm 0.20) thick per ASTM D 3182, molded from the same batch of compound, in the same state of cure as the product being supplied, sh

、te of cure. 4.2.3.3 Specimen Test Values All individual specimen test result values used to determine pass/fail criteria must be within acceptable limits as indicated in 3.2. Where test methods dictate that results be reported as average or median values, failed values shall not be allowed in these
、determinations. SAE AMS3220G Page 5 of 6 4.2.3.3.1 If any specimen fails to meet the pass/fail criteria as listed in Table 1, a retesting of three (3) additional specimens with acceptable results for each nonconforming specimen, shall be necessary for acceptance. The same material batch as was used
、for the failed test shall be used for retesting. Failure of any retest specimen shall be cause for rejection of the batch along with the rejection of any product that may have been produced from the batch. Results of all tests shall be reported. Records of all rejections shall be maintained. 4.3 Ind
、ividual specimen failures that occur due to obvious flaws in the specimen itself or because of mechanical failure of the test equipment, may be disregarded with only a single retest specimen required for acceptance. All such occurrences must be recorded. 4.4 Sampling When a statistical sampling plan
、 for product acceptance has been agreed upon by purchaser and vendor, sampling shall be in accordance with such plan and the report of 4.6 shall state that such plan was used. Otherwise sampling shall be in accordance with ANSI/ASQ-Z1.4, Single Sampling Plan, Inspection Level II, AQL 1.0, except tha
、t the acceptance number shall be zero (0). 4.4.1 A lot shall be all product from the same batch of compound processed in one continuous production run and presented for vendors inspection at one time. An inspection lot shall not exceed 1000 pounds (454 kg) and may be packaged in smaller quantities a
、nd delivered under the basic lot approval provided lot identification is maintained. 4.4.2 A batch shall be the quantity of compound run through a mill or mixer at one time. 4.5 Certification Certification to this material specification shall only be permitted if all testing requirements specified i
、n 4.2 have been met. 4.6 Approval 4.6.1 When the contract requires that sample product be submitted for approval by the purchaser before product for production use is supplied, results of tests on production product shall be essentially equivalent to those on the approved sample. 4.6.2 The vendor(s)
、 shall use ingredients, manufacturing procedures, processes, and methods of inspection on production product which are essentially the same as those used on the approved sample product. If necessary to make any change in ingredients, in type of equipment for processing, or in manufacturing procedure
、s, vendor shall submit for reapproval a statement of the proposed changes in ingredients and/or processing and, when requested, sample product. Product manufactured utilizing the changes submitted for approval shall not be shipped prior to receipt of reapproval. 4.7 Reports The supplier of the produ
、ct, as well as the mixer, that certifies to this specification, shall make readily available a report showing the results of tests to determine conformance to the acceptance requirements and/or qualification requirements. The report shall state that the product/material conforms to the technical req
、uirements of this specification. This report shall include this AMS number with revision, manufacturers identification and product designation, batch/lot number and date of manufacture. 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Packaging and Identification Shall be as specified in the parts standard, drawing
、or purchase document. If not specified, shall be as follows: Packaging shall be in accordance with AMS2810. A lot may be packaged in small quantities and delivered under the basic lot approval provided lot information is maintained. SAE AMS3220G Page 6 of 6 5.1.1 Each package, box, and shipping cont
