、 following requirements shall be specified in tender invitations and in each order or contract: The type (see 4.1). Annex B (informative) Quality verification of limes for building B.1 When a purchaser requires ongoing verification of the quality of limes for building, it is suggested that, instead

、of concentrating solely on evaluation of the final product, he also direct his attention to the manufacturers quality system. In this connection it should be noted that SANS 9001 covers the provision of an integrated quality system. Amdt 1 B.2 If no information about the implementation of quality co

、ntrol or testing during manufacture is available to help in the assessing of the quality of a consignment, and a purchaser wishes to establish, by inspection and testing of samples of the final product, whether a consignment of the lime produced to the standard complies with the requirements of this

、 standard, a sampling plan based on applicable statistical principles should be agreed upon between the supplier and the purchaser or certification body. It should be noted that such sampling plan applies to ready-for-use limes for use in building sampled in accordance with an agreed procedure. SANS

、 523:2009 Edition 2.3 10 Annex C (informative) Notes on tests and guidance on the use of limes for use in building C.1 General C.1.1 The notes in this annex are of a very general nature. Specific details can best be given by authoritative literature (e.g. SANS 10164-1), that contain expert informati

、on on the various aspects related to lime for use in buildings and its constituents, and on the judicious use of limes for building. C.1.2 Any information given in publications referred to in C.1.1 in the form of guidance or recommendations should not be construed as alternative or optional requirem

、ents to those specified in this standard, but as additional information to assist in the assessment of lime for its suitability for use in buildings, especially for special applications. Tests for the determination of properties additional to those covered in this standard should, wherever possible,

、 be conducted in accordance with South African national standard methods (see C.2.2). C.2 Notes on tests C.2.1 Tests specified in this standard Although it is implied in the preface to this standard that lime that complies with the requirements of this standard can be safely used in most buildings,

、it should be realized that the limits for some requirements, for example those for fineness, are fairly wide and that for specific applications the requirements might need to be confined to closer limits, or to such limits as agreed upon, appropriate to the intended use. Less time-consuming test met

、hods than those specified in this standard may be used if the results obtained are proven trustworthy, but in the event of a dispute, only the test methods prescribed in this standard are valid as references. It is not possible to cover all possible circumstances in a standard and therefore authorit

、ative literature as referred to in C.1.1, should be consulted, especially as far as performance is concerned. C.2.2 Tests for properties not covered in the standard Clause 4 lists the basic requirements covered in this standard. Examples of additional properties that can be determined and for which

、interpretation of the results will be required, are listed below, together with a relevant test method: a) The presence of sulfates: SANS 5850 (both parts). b) Presence of material of low-density: SANS 5837. c) Alkali-silica reactivity: SANS 6245. d) Chloride content: SANS 202. e) Electric conductiv

、ity: SANS 6240. SANS 523:2009 Edition 2.3 11 C.2.3 Lime that complies with the requirements of this standard As stated in C.2.1, the actual properties of lime that complies with the requirements of this standard should be considered to ensure that limes for use in buildings are so proportioned that the performance required for a particular application is obtained. C.2.4 Lime that does not comply with the requirements of this standard Where a lime has to be used that does not comply with the requirements of this standard, care sho
