6、sion made on whether to reaffirm, revise, withdraw, or proceed to develop an American National Standard on this subject. Suggestions for revision should be directed to: Standards othewise, record sufficient data to determine the yield point and break point. If no extension-indicating mechanism is us

7、ed, stop the testing machine crosshead at appropriate load or extension points and measure the extension of the gauge length. 8、ns that break at some obvious fortuitous flaw. Record the load and extension of the gauge length at yield (if any) and at the breaking . point. A yield or break outside the marked area shall be considered as invalid test information. 6 Calculations or interpretation of results 6.1 Elongation: If the

9、 sample gives a yield load that is larger than the load at break, calculate the “percent elongation at yield“; othenrvise, calculate the “percent elongation at break. Do this by reading the change in gauge length at the applicable strain, dividing by the original gauge length and multiplying by 100:

Tensile strength: Calculate the tensile strength by dividing the maximum load by the Maximum Load Minimum Cross Sectio

Precision and bias: The precision and bias of these methods are in accordance with 7 Documentation Report the following information for each specimen tested or set of tests, as appropriate: 7.1 Title and date of test. 7.2 Equipment used and date of calibra

12、tion. 7.3 Signature or certification of the responsible test personnel. For U. S. Military applications only, include the name of the actual test personnel. 7.4 Source of sample or cable identification. Note - When the sample is from a cable having a bonded jacket andlor embedded strength members, s

13、pecify whether the sample was from a cable jacket or was manufactured or molded. 7.5 Conditioning procedure. ASTM D 638, 8.3. A reference to this test procedure, together with a statement indicating whether 8.2 Jacket or jackets to

15、be tested. 8.3 Number of specimens to be tested. 8.4 Specimen preparation: tubular or dumbbell; manufactured or molded. 8.5 Specimen dimensions, if other than those given in the procedure. 8.6 Conditioning requirements and test conditions, if other than those given in the proced Ure. 8.7 Crosshead s

A.2 IEC -

19、IEC 81 1-1-1, Common test methods for insulating and sheathing materials of electric cables - Part 7: Methods for general application - Section 7: Measurement of thickness and overall dimensions - Tests for determining the mechanical properties, subclause 9.2, “Tensile testing”, has a procedure that is substantially the same as that of ASTM D 638, from which this FOTP was drawn. Therefore, tests per FOTP-89 may be judged to conform to this IEC test method. The reverse may not be the case due to differences in specimens or test attributes. 9
