5、er press controls, flame safety supervision of combustible fuel typeequipment, or elevator controls.RATIONALE FOR DECISION:Clause 1.2 of UL 698A states that the industrial control panels covered by these requirements “are notintended for metal working machine tools, plastic injection molding, power
6、press controls, flame safetysupervision of combustible fuel type equipment, or elevator controls”. This is an outdated restriction thatis no longer applicable to panel applications covered by this standard.When UL 698A was first published, it relied upon general industrial requirements for ordinary
7、locations(OrdLoc) industrial control panels that involved a similar restriction. Therefore, this restriction was simplyrepeated in UL 698A for consistency. Today, the general industrial requirements for OrdLoc industrialcontrol panels upon which UL 698A relies are contained in the UL Standard for Sa
8、fety for IndustrialControl Panels, UL 508A. In Clause 1.2 of UL 508A, it reads (with bold text added for emphasis), “Theserequirements also cover industrial control panel enclosures and industrial control panels intended forflame safety supervision of combustible fuel type equipment, elevator contro
9、l, crane or hoistcontrol, service equipment use, marine use, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, and for controlof industrial machinery including metalworking machine tools, power press controls, and plasticinjection molding machinery”.Therefore, with the general industrial requirements fo
10、r OrdLoc industrial control panels contained in UL508A specifically covering metal working machine tools, plastic injection molding, power press controls,flame safety supervision of combustible fuel type equipment, and elevator controls, the restriction inClause 1.2 of UL 698A is no longer applicabl
