44、tional Standard for Radiation Protection Instrumentation Test and CalibrationAir Monitoring Instruments 1.2 Purpose This standard applies to the calibration of installed, portable, and personal air monitoring instruments used for regulatory compliance, including continuous air monitors for effluent,

45、 work place, and environmental applications. It may not be universally applicable to all programs, especially those with more limited objectives such as process control. When calibrating instrumentation used for objectives other than regulatory compliance, the user of this standard should exercise j

46、udgment in the application of these requirements and should document the monitoring objectives and the reasons for any exceptions to the requirements of this standard. 1.3 Special word usage Throughout this standard, three verbs have been used to indicate the degree of rigor intended for each specif

47、ic criterion. The word shall denotes a requirement, the word should denotes a recommendation, and the word may denotes permission. 2. Relationship to other standards The following national and international standards specify design and performance issues, including when, where, and how air monitorin

48、g instruments shall, should, or may be used to sample or monitor airborne radioactive substances. Such issues are addressed in this standard to the extent that they influence the ability to achieve proper calibration. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. ANSI N42.17B, Performance Specifications for Health Physics InstrumentationOccupational Airborne Radioactivity Monitoring Instrumentation, specifies performance criteria and testing procedures for instruments and instrument systems designed to continuously sample and quantify concentrations of radioactivity in ambient air in the workplace.
