Notes - The d

2、ate in the parentheses means the date that the Rule becomes effective for new construction based on the contract date for construction, unless otherwise noted. (See 1-1-4/3.3 of the ABS Rules for Conditions of Classification (Part 1).) Note Regarding the Changes to Section 1 For the 2008 edition, Se

3、ction 1, “General” was consolidated into a generic booklet, entitled Rules for Conditions of Classification (Part 1) for all vessels other than those in offshore service. The purpose of this consolidation was to emphasize the common applicability of the classification requirements in “Section 1” to

4、ABS-classed vessels, other marine structures and their associated machinery, and thereby make “Conditions of Classification” more readily a common Rule of the various ABS Rules and Guides, as appropriate. As a result of this consolidation, those portions of Section 1 which are now included in the ge

5、neric booklet are deleted or revised as follows. (Add new Foreword to Section 1, as follows.) Foreword (1 January 2008) For the 2008 edition, Section 1, “General” was consolidated into a generic booklet, entitled Rules for Conditions of Classification (Part 1) for all vessels other than those in off

6、shore service. The purpose of this consolidation was to emphasize the common applicability of the classification requirements in “Section 1” to ABS-classed vessels, other marine structures and their associated machinery, and thereby make “Conditions of Classification” more readily a common Rule of t

7、he various ABS Rules and Guides, as appropriate. Thus, Section 1 of these Rules specifies only the unique requirements applicable to bulk carriers for service on the Great Lakes. These supplemental requirements are always to be used with the aforementioned Rules for Conditions of Classification (Par

8、t 1). Notice No. 4 January 2008 2 ABSRULES FOR BUILDING AND CLASSING BULK CARRIERS FOR SERVICE ON THE GREAT LAKES .1978 SECTION 1 GENERAL (Add the following new text to Subsection 1.1, as follows.) 1.1 Classification (1 January 2008) The requirements for conditions of classification are contained in

9、 the separate, generic ABS Rules for Conditions of Classification (Part 1). Additional requirements specific to bulk carriers for service on the Great Lakes are contained in the following portions of this Section. A listing of Classification Symbols and Notations available to the Owners of vessels,

10、offshore drilling and production units and other marine structures and systems, “List of ABS Notations and Symbols” is available from the ABS website “http:/www.eagle.org/absdownloads/index.cfm”. The following notations are specific to bulk carriers for service on the Great Lakes. Vessels which have

11、 been built under the supervision of the Surveyors to this Bureau to the requirements of the “Rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessels”, except where these are modified by the requirements contained in these Rules, or to their equivalent, will be classed and distinguished in the Record by the s

12、ymbols A1 Great Lakes Service. Where the vessel has been specially arranged and provided with special equipment for unloading, it will be distinguished in the Record with an appropriate notation regarding the arrangements. Where the vessel has been specially reinforced for the carriage of heavy-dens

13、ity cargoes, special loading arrangements, or both, it will be distinguished in the Record with a notation describing the special arrangements. Full particulars of the loading conditions and the maximum density of the cargoes to be provided for are to he given on the basic design plans. (Subsections 1.2 through 1.5 remain unchanged.) (Delete entire existing Subsections 1.6 and 1.7.) 1.6 Definitions (Renumber Subsection 1.8 as 1.6.)
