21、geFormat The Standard is presented in atwo-column format. The left column pres-ents the requirements for Users of theStandard. The right column describes the“why” and “how” of the recommendations,including alternative approaches for fol-lowing the requirements, objectives andrecommendations provided

The Appendix provides references,sources, important information, educa-tional materials, and an Audit Form.Overlap For Sections to be mutuallyexclusive and to stand alone, similar rec-ommendations may occasionally be stat-ed in more than one section of theStandard.Flexibility Requirements, recomme

23、n-dations and objectives are minimum “cri-teria” and can be adapted to the needsof the user. Alternative approaches,equal to or better than those presentedare also acceptable. Where Standard recommendations are inconflict with other standards and codes,the more stringent should normally beapplied. 1

24、. Scope and Purpose1.1 Scope. This standard is intended to helpmanufacturers and users protect thehealth of personnel from injurious effectsof contact with gases, vapors, mists,dusts, powders, or solvents used in, cre-ated, released, or disseminated during orby spray finishing operations.NOTE: It is

25、 recognized that uniform treat-ment of subjects covered by industrycodes and standards such as this ANSIZ9.3 standard is desirable because:It promotes confidence that there iswidespread agreement concerningprinciples relating to the subjectwhich, in turn, facilitates compliance.It facilitates enforc

26、ement by code-enforcing authorities.It facilitates the manufacture ofequipment that will comply with coderequirements.This standard is not intended to coverthe health and safety requirements forpersonnel involved in the spraying ofexteriors of buildings, inside fixed tanks,or similar structures, per

27、sonnel involvedin spraying operations in which smallhand-held spray cans are used. However,the fundamental safeguards prescribedin this standard can and should be fol-lowed when applicable.1.2 Purpose. The requirements of this stan-dard are intended to prevent the emis-sion into the workroom atmosph
