23、tionE. 70vFOREWORDIn1966,ANSIStandardsCommitteeB1StandardizationandUnificationofScrewThreadsstarted preparation of a document for ISO Metric Screw Threads based on the current ISOrecommendationsanddraftdocuments.SincethereweresomeuncertaintiesastotheacceptanceofthisthreadbyAmericanindustries,theinfo
24、rmationwaspublishedinAugust1967withthetitle,“InterpretativeDocumentMetricScrewThreadsB1.13.”ThisdocumentwasneverapprovedasanANSIstandard.ArevisionoftheinformationbasedonthethencurrentISOstandardsandrecommendationswaspublishedinApril1972withthetitle“B1ReportISOMetricScrewThreads.”Again,thedocument wa
25、s never approved as an ANSI standard. The document number was thereforeremovedandthestatuschangedtoareport.Interest in metric screw threads has grown at a rapid pace over the past several years withthe advent of greater import andexport business. The American National Standards Institute,in April 19
26、71, established a committee, ANSI Special Committee to Study Development of anOptimum Metric Fastener System (OMFS). Included in the scope was metric screw threads.RecommendationsweresubmittedtoajointISO/TC1/TC2workinggroupestablishedinSeptem-ber1973tostudytheOMFSproposals.AnISO/TC1/TC2AdHocAdvisory
27、PanelmeetinginApril1975inMunichreachedacompro-mise between the OMFS recommendations and the existing ISO screw thread system. Thiscompromise was approved, in the main, by the ISO/TC1 in its eleventh plenary meeting inStockholm,June1976.(a) ThefirstissueofthisStandard,designatedANSIB1.13M,wasapproved
28、asanAmericanNationalStandardonFebruary12,1979.Itprovidedasystemofmetricscrewthreadsforgeneralfastening purposes in mechanisms and structures and was in basic agreement with ISO screwthreadstandardsandresolutionscurrentatthattime.Itfeatureddetailedinformationfordiameter-pitchcombinationsselectedaspre
