It wassubsequently reorganized as an ASME Standards C
15、ommittee, and its title was changed to HandTools and Accessories. In 1996, the Committees scope was expanded to include safetyconsiderations.The purpose of ASME B107.17 is to establish final inspection gage sizes and test mandrel sizesfor wrench openings, and spark plug wrench openings for inch and
16、metric sizes. This Standarddoes not cover every available size, but only those most commonly manufacturered.This Standard may also be used as a guide by state authorities or other regulatory bodies inthe formulation of laws or regulations. It is also intended for voluntary use by establishmentsthat
17、use or manufacture the instruments covered.Changes in the 2015 edition include removal of unused references, corrections to values inTable 4M, and increased significant digits in the plus tolerances in Tables 4 and 4M.Members ofthe Hand Tools InstituteWrenches Standards Committee,through their knowl

ThisStandard does not cover every available size,

28、or square gages. Dimensionsin inch series tables are in inches, and dimensions inmetric series tables are in millimeters, except asspecified.4.1 Material4.1.1 Gages. The gages shall be made of steel, suit-able for the purpose intended and hardened to 60 HRCminimum. The hardness shall be tested using
29、 proce-dures outlined in ASTM E18.4.1.2 Mandrels. The mandrels shall be made ofsteel, suitable for the purpose intended, and hardened1to 56 HRC minimum. Thehardness shall be tested usingprocedures outlined in ASTM E18.4.2 Gage Use and DesignThe gages shall be of the sizes and tolerances giveninTable
30、s 1,1M,2, 2M,3, and3M.Formulas areprovidedfor sizes not listed.The gages shall be used in accordance with acceptedpractices. Manufacturers may use gages with tighterdimensions than those shown herein.Thesizeforalllimits(GOandNOGO)gagesshallnotexceedtheextremelimitsspecifiedherein.Allvariations(manuf
31、acturing tolerance, calibration error, wear allow-ance, etc.) in the gages, whatever their cause or purpose,shall bring these gages within the extreme limits of thisgage size specified within this Standard. Thus a gagethatrepresentsaminimumlimitmaybelarger,butneversmaller, than the minimum size spec
32、ified; likewise, thegage that represents a maximum limit may be smaller,but never larger, than the maximum size specified.4.2.1 Rounding Method. Rounding method is to beused for determining dimensions for gages. When thenext digit beyond the last digit to be retained is(a) less than 5, the last digi
33、t to be retained is notchanged(b) 5 or more, the last digit to be retained is increasedby one4.3 Mandrels Use and Design4.3.1 Mandrels for Nut End Socket Openings. Thehexagon mandrels shall be of the size and tolerancesgiven in Tables 4 and 4M. The square mandrels shall beof the size and tolerance g
34、iven in Table 5. The mandrelshall be inserted into the nut end socket opening to thedepth indicated in the applicable table.4.3.2 Mandrels for Wrench Openings.
