3、 Scope*1.1 This specification covers polyethylene (PE) pipe madein standard inside dimension ratios (SIDR) and pressure ratedfor water (see appendix). Included are requirements for PEcompounds and requirements and test methods forworkmanship, dimensions, elevated temperature sustainedpressure, burst

4、 pressure, and marking.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematicalconversions to SI units that are provided for information onlyand are not considered standard.1.3 The text of this specification references notes, footnotes

5、,and appendixes which provide explanatory material. Thesenotes and footnotes shall not be considered as requirements ofthe specification. Notes and footnotes in tables and figures, andSupplementary Requirements are requirements of the specifi-cation.1.4 The following safety hazards caveat pertains o

Terminology3.1 DefinitionsDefinitions are in accordance with Termi-nology F412, and abbreviations are in accordance with Termi-nology D1600, unless otherwise specified. The abbreviation forpolyethylene plastic is PE.4. Pipe Classification4.1 GeneralThis specifica

20、tion covers inside diameter con-trolled PE pipe made from PE compounds in standard insidedimension ratios and pressure rated for water. See Appendix X1 formaximum pressure ratings for water.5. Materials5.1 Polyethylene CompoundPolyethylene compoundssuitable for use in the manufacture

22、 of pipe under this specifi-cation shall meet thermoplastic materials designation codesPE1404 or PE2708 or PE3608 or PE4608 or PE4710, and shallmeet Table 1 requirements for PE1404 or PE2708 or PE3608or PE4608 or PE4710, and shall meet thermal stability,brittleness temperature and elongation at brea

23、k requirements inaccordance with Specification D3350.5.1.1 Color and Ultraviolet (UV) StabilizationPer Table1, polyethylene compounds shall meet Specification D3350code C, D or E. In addition, Code C polyethylene compoundsshall have 2 to 3 percent carbon black, and Code D or Epolyethylene compounds

30、all identify potable water service; green shall identifysewer service; and purple (lavender) shall identify reclaimedwater service. Yellow identifies gas service and shall not beused.5.2 Potable Water RequirementPE compound intendedfor contact with potable water shall be evaluated, tested, andcertif

31、ied for conformance with NSF/ANSI Standard No. 61 orthe health effects portion of NSF/ANSI Standard No. 14 by acertifying organization acceptable to the regulatory authorityhaving jurisdiction.5.3 Rework MaterialClean polyethylene compound fromthe manufacturers own pipe production that met 5.1 throu

32、gh5.2 as new PE compound is suitable for re-extrusion into pipewhen blended with new PE compound having the samematerial designation. Pipe containing rework material shallmeet all the requirements of this specification.6. Requirements6.1 WorkmanshipThe pipe shall be homogeneousthroughout and free of

33、 visible cracks, holes, foreign inclusions,or other defects. The pipe shall be as uniform as commerciallypracticable in color, opacity, density, and other physical prop-erties. See 5.1.2.6.2 Dimensions and Tolerances:6.2.1 Inside DiametersThe inside diameters and toler-ances shall be as shown in Tab

34、le 2 when measured inaccordance with Test Method D2122.6.2.2 Wall ThicknessesSubject to 6.2.3, wall thickness andtolerance shall be as shown in Table 3 when measured inaccordance with 7.4. Wall thickness shall be inclusive of allextruded concentric layers.6.2.3 Wall Thickness RangeThe wall thickness

35、 variationshall not exceed 12 % when measured in accordance with 7.4.6.2.4 Thickness of Outer LayerFor pipe produced bysimultaneous multiple extrusion, that is, pipe containing two ormore concentric layers, the outer layer shall be at least0.020-in. (0.5 mm) thick.6.3 BondFor pipe produced by simult

36、aneous multipleextrusion, the bond between the layers shall be strong anduniform. It shall not be possible to cleanly separate any twolayers with a probe or point of a knife blade at any point.6.4 Carbon BlackPolyethylene pipe produced using CodeC polyethylene compound per 5.1.1 shall contain 2 to 3

37、 %carbon black when tested in accordance with 7.5.6.5 Burst PressureThe minimum burst pressure for pipeshall be in accordance with Table 4, when determined inaccordance with 7.7. In addition, the failure shall be ductile.6.6 Sustained PressurePipe made from PE1404 com-pound shall be tested twice ann

38、ually in accordance with 7.6.The average failure time shall be 80 hours at 580 psi (4.00MPa) test pressure hoop stress, or 150 hours at 435 psi (3.00MPa) test pressure hoop stress.6.7 Elevated Temperature Sustained PressureExcept asprovided in 6.6, elevated temperature sustained pressure testsfor ea

39、ch polyethylene compound designation per Table 1 usedin production at the facility shall be conducted twice annuallyper 7.8.6.8 Inside Surface Ductility for PipePipe shall be testedfor inside surface ductility in accordance with 7.9 or 7.10.NOTE 4Tensile elongation testing per 7.10 provides a quanti

40、fiableresult and is used for referee testing and in cases of disagreement.7. Test Methods7.1 ConditioningCondition as specified in the testmethod. Where conditioning is not specified in the test method,condition the test specimens at 73.4 6 3.6F (23 6 2C)without regard to humidity for not less than4

41、hinaccordancewith Procedure A of Practice D618, or at 73.4 6 3.6F (23 62C) for not less than1hinaccordance with Procedure D ofPractice D618.7.2 Test ConditionsConduct tests in accordance with theconditions specified in the test method, or if not specified in thetest method, at 73.4 6 3.6F (23 6 2C)

42、without regard torelative humidity.7.3 SamplingThe selection of the sample or samples ofpipe shall be as agreed upon by the purchaser and the seller. 44、ave at least apart of the marking in their central sections. The central sectionis that portion of the pipe sample that is at least one pipediameter away from an end closure. The entire marking shallbe documented in testing records.7.4 Dimensions and TolerancesUse any length of pipe todetermine the

45、dimensions. Inside diameter, wall thickness andwall thickness range shall be measured in accordance with TestMethod D2122.7.5 Carbon BlackFor all pipe manufactured with Code Cpolyethylene compound, determine in duplicate the carbonblack content in accordance with Test Method D1603 or TestMethod D421

46、8.7.6 Sustained Pressure TestSelect six PE1404 pipe testspecimens. Test in accordance with Test Method D1598 withwater at 176F (80C). Internal test pressure shall be deter-mined in accordance with the equation in Table 5, footnote A.Failure of two of the six specimens tested constitutes failure inth

47、e test. Failure of one of six specimens tested is cause forretest of six additional specimens. Failure of one of sixspecimens tested in retest constitutes failure in the test. Failureof the pipe shall be as defined in Test Method D1598.7.7 Burst PressureThe test equipment, procedures andfailure defi

48、nitions shall be as specified in Test Method D1599.7.8 Elevated Temperature Sustained Pressure TestElevated temperature sustained pressure tests for each Table 1material designation used in production of pipe in accordancewith this specification at the facility shall be conducted per TestMethod D159

49、8, and Table 5 using water as the pressurizingmedium. The “test sample” shall be three specimens of anypipe size or SIDR. One Table 5 Condition for the applicablematerial designation shall be selected for the test.7.8.1 For the selected Table 5 Condition, passing results are(a) non-failure for all three specimens at a time equal to orgreater than the Table 5 minimum average time before failure,or (b) not more than one ductile specimen failure and theaverage time before failure for all three specimens shall begreate
