23、are specified by the manufacturer and must bereflected in the products installation instructions. Alternativeratings apply only when the specified sheathing and fasteningconditions are used. See Annex A1 for information on differ-ences between the standard wind load design pressure ratingand alterna

Materials and Manufacture4.1 T
25、he siding shall be made principally of polypropylenecompound, prepared from polypropylene homopolymer orcopolymer.4.2 Where polypropylene recycled plastic as defined inGuide D5033 is used, the siding containing the polypropylenerecycled plastic shall meet all the requirements in the sectionson Termi
26、nology (Section 3), on Materials and Manufacture(Section 4), and on Physical Requirements (Section 5).4.3 The polypropylene compound shall be compounded soas to provide the heat stability and weather exposure stabilityrequired for the siding market application.5. Physical Requirements5.1 ColorThe co
27、lor of the siding shall be within thedefined color parameters for the specific color agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the seller.5.2 Impact ResistanceSiding shall have a minimum im-pact strength of 35 in.-lbf when tested in accordance with 6.2.5.3 WeatheringThe siding shall be free of any visual
28、surface or structural changes such as peeling, chipping,cracking, flaking, or pitting when tested in accordance with 6.3.5.4 Wind Load ResistanceThe siding shall withstand aminimum static test pressure and a standard wind load designpressure rating shall be determined.5.4.1 Minimum Test PressureThe
29、siding panel(s) shall beable to withstand a minimum static test pressure of 16.2lbf/ft2(776 Pa) when tested in accordance with 6.4. Theaverage maximum sustained static pressure determined in 6.4shall be equal to or greater than this value.NOTE 3The static pressure of 16.2 lbf/ft2(776 Pa) was establi
30、shed towithstand structural loading conditions that occur in wind exposures ofapproximately 110 mph (177 km/h) (VASD) for mean roof heights of 30 ft(9.1 m) and less in exposure category B, and corresponds to 30.0lbf/ft2(1436 Pa) design pressure, to match the default wind designconditions of Table R7
31、03.3(1) in the 2015 International Residential Code.NOTE 4Refer to Annex A1 for an explanation as to how the negativedesign pressure was established, and for applications where the effectivenegative design pressure as specified in ASCE 7-10 is different from 30.0lbf/ft2(1436 Pa) (for example, wind-zo
32、ne areas greater than about 110mph (177 km/h) (VASD) (225 km/h (VULT) or mean roof height above 30ft (9.1 m), or exposures other than exposure category B).5.4.1.1 The design-pressure values can be negative (suctionloads) or positive. The negative values are the largest inmagnitude and are the values
33、 used for this specification.5.4.2 Standard Wind Load Design Pressure RatingThestandard wind load design pressure rating shall be determinedfrom the results of testing in accordance with 6.4, using theprocedures described in Annex A1, section A1.3.NOTE 5The standard design pressure rating is valid f
34、or applicationswhere the siding is installed over sheathing and its fastening that arecapable of independently resisting both positive and negative windpressures occurring under design conditions at the building location. Forapplications over other sheathing, a different design pressure rating isapp
35、licable, and is determined in accordance with Annex A1, section A1.3.Determination of a rating other than the standard design pressure rating isnot required by this section.5.4.3 Alternative Design Pressure RatingsDesign pressureratings other than the standard wind load design pressurerating, for us
36、e with different sheathing materials or usingdifferent installation or fastening, are permitted to be deter-mined in accordance with testing under 6.4, using the proce-dures in Annex A1.5.5 Surface Flame SpreadThe siding shall exhibit a flamespread index not exceeding 200 when tested in accordance w
37、ith6.5.6. Test Methods6.1 GeneralThe inspection and test procedures containedin this section are used to determine the conformance ofproducts to the requirements of this specification.NOTE 6Each producer who represents its products as conforming tothis specification typically uses statistically base
38、d sampling plans that areappropriate for each manufacturing process to verify ongoing compliance.Specifications for quality control programs are beyond the scope of thisstandard specification. Additional sampling and testing of the product, asagreed upon between the purchaser and the manufacturer, a
39、re notD7254 172precluded by this section.6.2 Impact Resistance:6.2.1 Conditioning and Test ConditionsCondition the testspecimen in accordance with Specification D4101 and testunder those conditions unless otherwise specified herein.Conditioning time for tests shall be at least 4 hours.6.2.2 Impact T
40、estTest impact resistance of siding in ac-cordance with Test Method D4226, Procedure A, impactorhead configuration H.25. Increments of 4 in.-lb (for example,0.5 in. height increments with an 8 lb falling weight) shall beused. Minimum sample dimensions shall be 1.5 by 1.5 inch.Samples shall be tested
41、 with the normally exposed surfacefacing up.6.3 WeatherabilityExpose test specimens with a plywoodbacking at an angle of 45 South in the northern hemisphere inaccordance with Practices D1435 and G147 for two years in atleast three widely different climatic areas. Test sites shall belocated in a hot,
42、 dry climate, such as Phoenix,AZ; a hot, humidclimate such as Miami, FL; and a temperate, northern climatesuch as Cleveland, OH or Louisville, KY.6.3.1 Specimens shall be a minimum of 2 by 334 in. (51 by95 mm).6.3.2 Samples shall be representative of the product to beevaluated. Samples shall be take
43、n either from commercialproducts or from laboratory samples. Laboratory samples shallbe produced in the same manner as the commercial products tobe evaluated.NOTE 7Production of laboratory samples in the same manner includesuse of the same method of forming the product. For example, if thecommercial
44、 product is extruded, the laboratory specimen shall be ex-truded; if the commercial product is injection molded, the laboratoryspecimen shall be injection molded, and so forth.6.4 Wind Load ResistanceConduct the test on wind loadresistance of the finished siding in accordance with TestMethod D5206.
45、The average maximum sustained static testpressure determined from this testing is used in 5.4. Forpurposes of determining compliance with the minimum testpressure and standard design pressure requirements in 5.4, thetest structure shall be constructed with vertical studs 16 incheson center, the sidi
46、ng in the test installation shall be installedover wood sheathing with a nominal thickness of716 to12 in.,and fastened as follows:6.4.1 Fastener TypeRoofing nail, smooth shank. Unlessgreater dimensions are specified in the manufacturersinstructions, 0.120 in. (18 in. nominal; 3.2 mm) shank diameter,
47、516 in. (7.9 mm) head diameter, length as necessary to penetratethe thickness of the sheathing plus14 in. (6.4 mm).6.4.2 Fastener SpacingAs specified by the manufacturersinstallation instructions.6.4.3 Fasteners shall not be driven tightly against the siding.Allow approximately132 in. (0.8 mm) clear
48、ance between thefastener head and siding surface.NOTE 8The installation details described 6.4 conform to the minimumrequirements of the 2015 International Residential Code andpolypropylene-specific provisions of the VSI Vinyl Siding InstallationManual. For installation methods that are inherently st
49、ronger than theminimum requirements (such as closer fastener spacing, longer or thickerfasteners, or greater penetration), no additional testing should benecessary, and the standard design pressure rating would apply to suchinstallations. If the manufacturer desires a higher design pressure ratingusing inherently stronger installation, or for installations that are inher-ently less strong (such as greater fastener spacing or smaller fasteners),additional testing is needed. See 5.4.3.6.5 Surface Flame SpreadConduct
