3、 when testing tapes to assess flame spreadand smoke development as surface burning characteristicsusing Test Method E84. Tapes are to be tested in full coverageas applied to fiber cement board as described in Test MethodE84.1.2 This practice applies to tapes intended for various useswithin buildings

The tapes addressed in this practice are notable to be supported by their own structural characteristicsduring the test.1.3 Testing is conducted in accordance with Test MethodE84.1.4 This practice does not provide pass/fail criteria that canbe used as a regulatory tool.1.5 This practice does not a

5、pply to materials for which thetest specimen does not remain in place before and during thetest until maximum flame propagation has occurred.1.6 This practice is not for system evaluation. It is for thecomparison of the materials only.1.7 Use the values stated in inch-pound units as thestandard, in

6、referee decisions. The values in the SI system ofunits are given in parentheses, for information only; seeIEEE/ASTM SI-10 for further details.1.8 This fire standard cannot be used to provide quantitativemeasures.1.9 Fire testing is inherently hazardous. Adequate safe-guards for personnel and propert

7、y shall be employed inconducting these tests.1.10 This standard gives instructions on specimen prepara-tion and mounting, but the fire-test-response method is given inTest Method E84. See also Section 9.1.11 The text of this standard references notes and footnoteswhich provide explanatory material.

17、board as described in Test MethodE84.4.2 This practice applies only to those tapes from which it isnot possible to develop specimens that are self-supporting bytheir own structural characteristics.4.3 The tapes addressed in this practice shall be tested inaccordance with the specimen preparation and

18、 mounting pro-cedures described in this practice, using Test Method E84.5. Significance and Use5.1 Building products made with tapes are often used forapplications for which Test Method E84 is used for compliancewith building, life safety code or mechanical code require-ments. This practice describe

19、s, in detail, specimen mountingprocedures for those tapes which are not able to be supportedby their own structural characteristics during the test.5.2 Codes are often silent with regard to testing tapes for theassessment of flame spread and smoke development as surfaceburning characteristics. This

20、practice describes specimenpreparation and mounting procedures for such materials andproducts.5.3 The material shall be representative of the materialsused in actual field installations.5.4 The limitations for this procedure are those associatedwith Test Method E84.6. Conditioning6.1 The specimens u

21、sed for testing shall be conditioned asdescribed in the section on specimen conditioning in TestMethod E84.7. Specimen Preparation and Mounting7.1 The tape shall be applied directly to a fiber-cementboard using only the manufacturer applied tape adhesive fortesting. If the tape is intended to be use

22、d only on metal/foilsufaces, apply to sheet metal not less than 0.016 in. (0.4 mm)thick.7.2 When there is a concern over adhesion to the fibercement board, it is permissible to use nails or staples to holdthe tape in place. No more than one staple or nail per 2 ft. (610mm) of tape shall be used.7.3

23、Tapes manufactured in widths less than full tunnel widthshall be butted edge to edge to form the full tunnel width.Seams shall run the length of the tunnel.7.4 Tapes are to be tested in full coverage as applied to fibercement board as described in Test Method E84.8. Testing of Specimens8.1 All testi

24、ng shall be conducted using the methodologydescribed in Test Method E84.9. Operator Safety9.1 The primary concerns for operator safety are associatedwith the fire-test-response procedure, Test Method E84, andnot with the specimen preparation procedure. Safety recom-mendations are included in Test Me

25、thod E84.10. Report10.1 Report the following within the Test Method E84 testreport:10.1.1 A detailed description of the specimen being tested.10.1.2 A detailed description of the specimen preparationmethod used, per Section 7.10.1.3 Observations, graphical results and the values of theflame spread i

26、ndex and of the smoke developed index in eachtest.11.
