Terminology2.1 Definitions:2.1.1 accompanying literature, nprinted material that ac-companies the product when it is sold or distributed.2.1.2 caution, nsignal word used to indicate a potentiallyhazardous situation that, if not avoided, may result
6、 in minor ormoderate injury.2.1.3 contact information, ninformation that allows theuser to contact the manufacturer of the product, such as name,telephone number, website address.2.1.4 danger, nsignal word used to alert the wearer to animminently hazardous situation that, if not avoided, will result
7、in serious injury or death and this signal word is to be limitedto the most extreme situations.2.1.5 label, nprinted material that is physically attached tothe headgear in a durable fashion.2.1.6 label material, nsubstrate paper, fabric, or othermaterial from which the label is made.2.1.7 legible, a
8、djcan be read by a person with 20/20corrected vision from a distance of at least 18 in. (46 cm).2.1.8 manufacturer, nentity responsible for marketing theproduct.2.1.9 mounting location, nposition on or in the headgearin which information may be affixed.2.1.10 pictogram, ngraphic representation that
9、depicts orillustrates an act or condition without the use of accompanyingwriting.2.1.11 signal word, nword that conveys a level of dangercommensurate with the risk of injury.2.1.12 warning, nsignal word used to indicate a poten-tially hazardous situation that, if not avoided, could result indeath or
10、 serious injury.2.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:2.2.1 date of manufacture, nuncoded four-digit year dur-ing which the headgear was manufactured.2.2.2 durable, adjlabel should be designed to be legible aslong as the manufacturers logo remains legible.2.2.3 expected life, nperiod of
11、 time during which theheadgear should be expected to provide the advertised level ofprotection if not damaged by use or accident.3. Significance and Use3.1 This guide gives guidelines for labels and instructions tomanufacturers of non-motorized sports and recreation head-gear.3.2 The purpose of the
12、labels and instructions is to help alertand remind headgear users of important issues related toheadgear and its use.3.3 LimitationThis guide applies only to protective head-gear whose standard specifications are under auspices ofASTM Committee F08.4. Helmet Labeling Requirements4.1 Required informa
13、tion shall be on one or more labels thatare affixed to the helmet in a durable fashion. Accompanying Literature Requirements5.1 Accompanying literature can be on product packaging,in instructions included with the product, and so forth. Theaccompanying literature shall have:5.1.1 Fit, use, and adjustm
19、ent instructions such as:5.1.1.1 Pictogram showing correct positioning,5.1.1.2 Text describing fit and adjustment,5.1.1.3 Care instructions such as:(1) Cleaning instructions,(2) When to replace,(3) What materials can damage, and(4) Pre-use inspection.5.1.1.4 Warranty or where warranty can be accesse
20、d (web-site or equivalent).5.1.2 Manufacturer IdentificationFull name of manufac-turer including any other information needed to identify theresponsible entity.5.1.3 Manufacturer Contact InformationWebsite address,mailing address, and e-mail address for customer service.5.1.4 Any age or size limitat
21、ions.5.1.5 Statement that modifying the product can reduce levelof protection.5.1.6 Statement to read and always comply with manufac-turers instructions.5.1.7 Statement to always comply with all applicable laws.5.1.8 Statement to always comply with rules of applicablesports or activities.5.1.9 Ident
