Scope1.1 This test method covers requirements for weighing andmarketing bicycles, including all adult, and childrens bicycles.1

3、.2 This standard may contain test methods that do notentirely simulate real life situations. The test methods aredesigned to give reproducible results in a laboratory and,thereby, a means for product comparison.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded asstandard. No other units of measur

4、ement are included in thisstandard.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limit

Terminology3.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.1.1 aftermarket, ncomponents intended to be fitted to abicycle but not included as original equipment with the bicy

6、cle.3.1.2 as-sold bicycle weight, nthe weight of the completebicycle with all original equipment as sold to the customerminus any packaging materials and aftermarket accessories.Examples of potential original equipment includes: kickstand,reflectors, chain guards, racks, fenders, pedals, water bottl

7、esand cages, etc.3.1.3 bicycle, ntwo-wheeled, single-track, articulated ve-hicle that is solely human powered.3.1.4 bicycle frame, nthe structural member that supportsthe seat with rear connection for the rear wheel, front connec-tion via the head tube for the fork and lower connection for thecrank/

8、pedal assembly.3.1.5 minimum bicycle weight, nthe combined weight ofthe frame and components necessary to ride the bicycle, andchange gears (if bicycle is multi-speed), minus the pedals.Handlebars, stem, brakes, seat, seatpost, and any handlebarcoverings are to be included.3.1.6 size, nthe marketed

9、representation of the bicycleframe dimensions that may or may not be determinable frommeasurement. Examples of sizes are: small, medium, large, 19inch, 21 inch, 56 cm, 58 cm.4. Summary of Test Method4.1 Representative samples of bicycles are weighed on acalibrated scale, using two methods.5. Signifi

10、cance and Use5.1 The minimum and as-sold weight of a bicycle areproperties used by consumers to evaluate bicycles. The weightmay also be used for specifications, manufacturing standards,and quality control.6. Apparatus6.1 Calibrated Scale, within the weight range of the bicycle.7. Sampling, Test Spe

11、cimens, and Test Units7.1 Test specimens shall be new and in unused condition,selected randomly from a production lot of a given model ofbicycle. The bicycle shall conform in all respects to themanufacturers specifications for the model to be tested with allseals, fluids, and lubricants in place. At

12、 least one sample ofeach size bicycle is required. If multiple samples of the samesize are measured, the average is to be reported.8. Calibration and Standardization8.1 Test equipment is to be in compliance with Practices E4and other requirements specific to the equipment.9. Conditioning9.1 Bicycle

Report11.1 Report the following information (see Fig. 1):11.1.1 Name of the bicycle manufacturer,11.1.2 Model, size, and serial number of bicycle tested,11.1.3 Date and location of the tests,11.1.4 Name(s) of the personnel conducting the tests,11.1.5 Whether the bicycle is a production model or ap

18、rototype, or pre-production model,11.1.6 Minimum bicycle weight to nearest 10 g,11.1.6.1 Digital photo of bike as tested to minimum weight,11.1.7 As-sold bicycle weight to nearest 10 g,11.1.7.1 Digital photo of bicycle tested for as-sold weight,11.1.8 A comprehensive list of all items included in th

19、eas-sold bicycle weight, that are not included in the minimumweight,11.1.9 Any deviations from this test method.12. Precision and Bias12.1 The precision of this test method is within 1 %, thespecified scale tolerance. The bias of this test method formeasuring bicycle weight has not been determined.1

RATIONALEX1.1 Why pedals are not included in the minimum bicycleweight.X1.1.1 Pedals have become an aftermarket accessory thatmost users of mid to high q

21、uality bicycles upgrade to theirunique preference. Some bicycle manufacturers, are aware ofthis and choose to supply bicycles without pedals. So to makeweight comparisons more equal among all bicycles, it waschosen to not include pedals in the minimum weight measure-ments.ASTM International takes no
