A superscriptepsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope*1.1 This specification covers requirements, test methods,and marking requirements for

3、system components when testedwith nominal SDR9 crosslinked polyethylene tubing as asystem. Systems are intended for 100 psi (0.69 MPa) waterservice up to and including a maximum working temperatureof 180F (82C). Requirements and test methods are includedfor materials, workmanship, dimensions and tol

4、erances, burstpressure, sustained pressure, excessive temperature andpressure, and thermo-cycling tests. The components coveredby this specification are intended for use in residential andcommercial, hot and cold, potable water distribution systems orother applications such as municipal water servic

5、e lines,radiant panel heating systems, hydronic baseboard heatingsystems, snow and ice melting systems, and building servicespipe.1.2 The text of this specification references notes, footnotes,and appendixes which provide explanatory material. Thesenotes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and

6、figures) shallnot be considered as requirements of the specification.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. Terminology3.1 The terminology used in this specification is in accor-dance with Terminology F412, Termino

22、logy D1600, and Sym-bols D2749, unless otherwise specified. The abbreviation forcrosslinked polyethylene is PEX. Plastic tubing denotes aparticular diameter schedule of plastic pipe in which outsidediameter of the tubing is equal to the nominal size plus18 in.Plastic pipe outside diameter schedule c

23、onforms to ANSIB 36.10.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 crosslinked polyethylene plasticsplastics preparedby crosslinking (curing) polyethylene compounds.3.2.2 fittingan appurtenance such as coupling, elbow ortee used to connect tubing or as an accessory to tubing.3.2.3 stand

24、ard dimension ratio (SDR)a selected series ofnumbers in which the average outside diameter to minimumwall thickness dimension ratios are constant for all sizes oftubing in each standard dimension ratio, and which are theANSI Z 17.1 Preferred Number Series R 10 modified by +1.3.2.4 manifoldan appurte

25、nance that has at least one inletand multiple outlets.3.2.5 system componentsfittings and manifolds.4. Materials4.1 GeneralPEX systems shall use crosslinked polyethyl-ene tubing as described in Specification F876.4.2 Fitting and manifold materials shall meet the applicablerequirements as described i

26、n Specifications F1807, F1865,F1960, F1961, F2080, F2159, F2434, F2735,orF2854.4.3 CertificationPEX tubing and system components,used for the distribution of potable water, shall be productsapproved for that service by the regulatory bodies having suchjurisdiction. These products shall be tested for

27、 that service bya nationally recognized and accredited testing laboratory andshall bear the certification mark of the testing agency.5. Classification5.1 FittingsThis specification classifies fittings includingmanifolds, intended for use in systems with PEX tubing, by amaximum continuous use tempera

28、ture that shall be 180F(82C) and by nominal sizes from18 in. through 6 in. on thebasis of resistance to burst pressure, hydrostatic sustainedpressure, excessive temperature pressure capability, and bythermocycling. Fittings shall be compatible with tubing madeto the requirements of Specification F87

29、6.6. Requirements6.1 WorkmanshipFittings shall be made from materialsthat are homogeneous throughout and free of visible cracks,holes, foreign inclusions, or other defects. All sealing surfacesshall be smooth and free of foreign material. The walls offittings and manifolds shall be free of cracks, h

30、oles, blisters,voids, foreign inclusions, or other defects that are visible to thenaked eye and may affect fitting integrity.6.2 Dimensions and Tolerances:6.2.1 The dimensions and tolerances of fittings shall meetthe specific requirements contained in Specifications F1807,F1865, F1960, F1961, F2080,

31、 F2159, F2434, and F2735 orother recognized specification.6.2.2 Fittings shall be compatible with tubing made to therequirements of Specification F876.6.3 Corrosion ResistanceFittings shall be made frommaterials that are generally regarded as corrosion resistant.6.3.1 Compliance with this specificat

32、ion requires that fit-tings contained in Specifications F1807, F1865, F1960, F1961,F2080, F2159, F2434, and F2735, and F2854 must meet thePerformance and Test Method requirements of F877.6.4 Hydrostatic Burst:6.4.1 Tubing and fittings (tested as assemblies) assembledusing the manufacturers instructi

36、6.5 Hydrostatic Sustained Pressure Strength6.5.1 Tubing and fittings (tested as assemblies) shall meetthe minimum hydrostatic sustained pressure strength require-ments shown in Table 2 when tested in accordance with 7.4.6.5.1.1 Manifolds with integral shut-off (valves) shall betested with all ports

37、in the full-open or unrestricted position.6.6 Thermocycling:6.6.1 Fittings, assembled using the manufacturersinstructions, shall not leak after completion of 1000 cyclesbetween the temperatures of 60F (16C) and 180F (82C)when tested in accordance with 7.5.6.6.1.1 Manifolds with integral shut-offs (v

38、alves) shall betested with all ports in the full open or unrestricted position.6.7 Excessive TemperaturePressure Capability:6.7.1 GeneralIn the event of a water heating systemmalfunction, PEX tubing and system components shall haveadequate strength to accommodate short-term conditions, 48 hof 210F (

39、99C), 150 psi (1034 kPa) until repairs can be made.6.7.2 Excessive Temperature Hydrostatic SustainedPressureTubing and system components, when tested asassemblies, shall not fail as defined in Test Method D1598 inless than 30 days (720 h) when tested in accordance with 7.7.6.7.2.1 Manifolds with int

40、egral shut-offs (valves) shall betested with all ports in the full open or unrestricted position.NOTE 2Tests applicable to assemblies and bends (6.4, 6.5, 6.6, and6.7) are intended to be performance qualification tests and not testsrequired of each fitting.7. Test Methods7.1 ConditioningThe test spe

41、cimens should be condi-tioned at 70 to 77F (23 6 2C) and 50 6 5 % relativehumidity for not less than 40 h prior to test in accordance withPractice D618, for those tests where conditioning is required.7.2 Test ConditionsConduct the tests in the standardlaboratory atmosphere of 70 to 77F (23 6 2C) and

42、 50 6 5%relative humidity, unless otherwise specified in the test meth-ods or in this specification.7.3 SamplingA sufficient quantity of tubing and systemcomponents, as agreed upon by the purchaser and the seller,shall be selected and tested to determine conformance with thisspecification (see Pract

43、ice D1898). In the case of no prioragreement, random samples selected by the testing laboratoryshall be deemed adequate.7.4 Hydrostatic Sustained Pressure Determine in accor-dance with Test Method D1598, except for the following:7.4.1 Test at least six joints, from randomly selected speci-mens assem

44、bled per the manufacturers instructions with atleast 5-pipe diameters between joints.7.4.2 Test temperature shall be 180 6 4F (82 6 2C).7.4.3 The external test environment shall be air or water.7.4.4 Fill the specimens with water at a temperature of atleast 120F (50C).7.5 Thermocycling:7.5.1 Summary

45、 of Test MethodThis test method describesa pass-fail test for thermally cycling PEX tubing and systemcomponent assemblies over a critical temperature range for aselected number of cycles while subjected to a nominal internalpressure. This test method provides a measure of resistance tofailure due to

46、 the combined effects of differential thermalexpansion and creep for PEX tubing and fittings intended forcontinuous use up to and including 180F (82C).7.5.2 ApparatusA nitrogen or air source capable of main-taining a nominal internal pressure of 100 6 10 psi (0.69 60.069 MPa) on the specimens is req

47、uired. The immersionsystem shall consist of two water reservoirs controlled at 60 64F (166 2C) and 180 6 4F (82 6 2C). The specimen shallbe cycled from one reservoir to the other or the hot and coldwater shall be alternately cycled over the test specimensautomatically and returned to the proper rese

48、rvoirs.NOTE 3Automatic cycling may be accomplished by pumping fromeach reservoir, through a delivery system having timer-actuated valves, toa specimen water trough having synchronized, timer-actuated returndrains. Any automatic apparatus shall provide for complete immersion ofthe test specimen in th

49、e trough.7.5.3 Sampling and Specimen Preparation Select at leastsix joints from randomly selected specimens assembled per themanufacturers instructions. Close the specimen assembly withany suitable end closures that allow “free-end” mounting andwill not leak under the thermocycling conditions, and connectthe specimen assembly to the pressure source.7.5.4 ProcedurePressurize the specimen assembly withnitrogen or air to 100 6 10 psi (0.69 6 0.069 MPa) .
