Scope1.1 This specification covers the design, construction, andinstallation of intermediate portable f

3、lush deck stanchions.Intermediate stanchion is defined as any stanchion that is not anend or corner stanchion.1.2 Stanchions shall be used on interior and exterior decks,to provide temporary protection to minimize the danger ofpersonnel falling overboard or to a lower level in the ship inareas where

4、 the installation of a fixed system would interferewith vessel operations.1.3 Stanchions may be used with38-in. (9.5-mm) galva-nized close link chain or wire rope lifelines916-in. (14-mm) topcourse,716-in. (11-mm) lower courses.1.4 This specification covers only the stanchions and doesnot cover requ

5、irements for the chain or wire rope lines to besupported by the stanchion.1.5 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. Classification3.1 Portable flush deck stanchions shall be available in twotypes:3.1.1 Type ITwo-course portable flush deck stanchions(see Fig. 1).3.1.2 Type IIThree-course portable flush deck stanchions(see

Ordering Information4.1 Orders for portable flush deck stanchions under thisspecification shall include the following information:4.1.1 ASTM designation and year of issue (that is,F987 04).4.1.2 Type.4.1.3 Quantity.4.1.4 If socket plug stowage coupling is required.4.2 Lifelines shall be

10、ordered separately.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Materials:5.1.1 Pipe for stanchion shall be in accordance with Speci-fication A106/A106M, Grade A or B, NPS 112, Schedule 80,carbon steel.5.1.2 Staple shall be in accordance with Specification F783,Table 1, Type II.5.1.3 Socket shall be in accordanc

17、ly, excluding socket and socket plug,shall be hot-galvanized in accordance with Specification A123/A123M.6. Other Requirements6.1 Stanchions shall be installed in accordance with contactrequirements or as specified below:6.1.1 Portable flush deck stanchions shall not be used oninclined ladders.6.1.2

18、 Type I StanchionsRequired on bridges, platforms,walkways, and elsewhere as needed in accordance with Title46 CFR (see 3.1).6.1.3 Type II StanchionsRequired along the exposed pe-ripheries of freeboards, weather decks and superstructure decksin accordance with Title 46 CFR (see 3.1).7. Installation7.

19、1 The intended installation is to follow these generalguidelines:7.1.1 There shall be a maximum clearance of 4 in. (101.6mm) between stanchion centerline and other structure.7.1.2 Sockets shall be installed and aligned so that stan-chions are perpendicular to the ships baseline.7.1.3 Stanchions shal

20、l be installed with 10 ft (3050 mm)maximum between centers; 6 ft (1830 mm) minimum.7.1.4 Socket plugs shall be provided for installation in deckwhen stanchions are stowed.7.1.5 The top of stanchions may be provided with a cou-pling for stowage of socket plugs when stanchions are in use.See Fig. 4.8.

21、 Dimensions and Tolerances8.1 Dimensions for Type ITwo course portable flush deckstanchions shall be in accordance with Fig. 1.8.2 Dimensions for Type IIThree course portable flushdeck stanchions shall be in accordance with Fig. 2.8.3 The dimensions are as indicated.8.4 Socket, socket plug, stanchio

22、n, and coupling shall havetolerances in accordance with ANSI B 16.15. All other dimen-sions shall have a tolerance of 614 in. (6.35 mm).9. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 Stanchions shall be free of weld spatter, slag splinters,sharp edges, burrs, projections, and other defects hazardous tope

23、rsonnel.9.2 Galvanizing destroyed after fabrication shall be repairedby the application of cold-galvanizing compound.10. Testing10.1 Hammer test deck sockets for soundness and strength.10.2 Test at least one stanchion of each platform or deck byapplication of a load horizontally in accordance with t

24、hemethods in “Strength and Stiffness of Metal Railing Systemsand Rails for Buildings.”511. Packaging11.1 Loose hardware shall be packaged and wired to stan-chion.12.
