、 AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS ATIS-0300213.2006 Coded Identification of Equipment Entities of the North American Telecommunications System for Information Exchange ATIS is the leading technical planning and standards development organization committed to the rapid development of

、 global, market-driven standards for the information, entertainment and communications industry. More than 300 companies actively formulate standards in ATIS 20 Committees, covering issues including: IPTV, Service Oriented Networks, Home Networking, Energy Efficiency, IP-Based and Wireless Technolog

、ies, Quality of Service, Billing and Operational Support. In addition, numerous Incubators, Focus and Exploratory Groups address emerging industry priorities including “Green”, IP Downloadable Security, Next Generation Carrier Interconnect, IPv6 and Convergence. ATIS is the North American Organizati

、onal Partner for the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), a member and major U.S. contributor to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Radio and Telecommunications Sectors, and a member of the Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL). AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD Approval of

、 an American National Standard requires review by ANSI that the requirements for due process, consensus, and other criteria for approval have been met by the standards developer. Consensus is established when, in the judgment of the ANSI Board of Standards Review, substantial agreement has been reac

、hed by directly and materially affected interests. Substantial agreement means much more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanimity. Consensus requires that all views and objections be considered, and that a concerted effort be made towards their resolution. The use of American National S

、tandards is completely voluntary; their existence does not in any respect preclude anyone, whether he has approved the standards or not, from manufacturing, marketing, purchasing, or using products, processes, or procedures not conforming to the standards. The American National Standards Institute d

、oes not develop standards and will in no circumstances give an interpretation of any American National Standard. Moreover, no person shall have the right or authority to issue an interpretation of an American National Standard in the name of the American National Standards Institute. Requests for in

、terpretations should be addressed to the secretariat or sponsor whose name appears on the title page of this standard. CAUTION NOTICE: This American National Standard may be revised or withdrawn at any time. The procedures of the American National Standards Institute require that action be taken per

、iodically to reaffirm, revise, or withdraw this standard. Purchasers of American National Standards may receive current information on all standards by calling or writing the American National Standards Institute. Notice of Disclaimer b) As an identification to be marked on manufactured equipment ac

、cording to customer requirements, within the framework of this standard; and c) As an aid in identifying equipment engineered or furnished by manufacturers and suppliers. 1.2 Purpose This standard specifies the format structure and code structure and provides for uniform data representation necessar

、y to provide a standard form of coded identification of equipment entities for the purpose of efficient information exchange related to the interconnection and interoperability of telecommunications networks within the North American Telecommunications System. The code sets within this standard will

、 be developed and maintained by the designated maintenance agent.11.3 Application This standard does not replace identification codes assigned to equipment by the manufacturer. However, a manufacturer may elect to use this standard for its product identification. 2 DEFINITIONS The following definiti

、ons establish understanding for the context of this standard. 2.1 circuit detail: Circuit design data. 2.2 data: A representation of facts, concepts, or instructions that are collected, organized, recorded, processed, and stored in a retrievable form suitable for communication, interpretation, or pr

、ocessing by human or automated means. This definition refers to a group of facts taken as a unit; thus it is used with a singular verb. 2.3 data composite: A collection of data elements treated as a unit. 1Telcordia Technologies (“Telcordia”) or its equivalent is such a maintenance agent. At the tim

、e of approval of this standard, ATIS and the responsible ATIS Form/Committee that developed the standard were only aware of one maintenance agent, Telcordia, for this requirement (Annex A). If you are aware of an equivilant or an alternative maintenance agent, please provide this information to the

、ATIS General Counsel. Your comments will receive careful consideration at the responsible Forum/Committee, which you may attend fo the purpose of this consideration. ATIS-0300213.2006 2 2.4 data element: A single unit of data that in a certain context is considered indivisible. It cannot be decompos

、ed into more fundamental segments of data that have useful meanings within the business. 2.5 equipment: All telecommunications switching, transmission, network termination, signaling, and power equipment, as well as associated operating support equipment and other equipment that actively supports th

、e telecommunications network. Exclusions are: land and buildings, network and premises cable, other material/supplies, station equipment, furniture and office equipment, motor vehicles, and general tools and work equipment. 2.6 equipment entity: A unique equipment within a family and sub-family of e

、quipment. 2.7 equipment frame: A structural unit of hardware that contains smaller units of hardware. 2.8 equipment plug-in: Equipment plugged into an equipment mounting or other plug-ins. 2.9 equipment wired: Equipment mounted in an equipment frame and cabled to a distribution or terminating point,

、 or wired to another unit. 3 GENERAL Each data element shall consist of sequences of characters, each character being either an alphabetic (A-Z) or numeric (0-9). In the format layout in clause 5, character positions that require either alphabetic or numeric characters are represented by “A/N.” The

、alphabetic characters shall be considered as case insensitive; that is, there shall be no distinction made between upper and lower case letters. However, it is recommended that the code be represented with upper case letters. 4 DATA ELEMENTS Clause 5 of this standard describes the equipment entity i

、dentification format that contains data elements that are defined and described in the following sections. 4.1 Family Code A label to denote a functional category of manufactured telecommunications equipment. This data element shall consist of two characters, either of which may be alphabetic or num

、eric. An example is IP, representing an Internet Protocol Network. 4.2 Sub-Family Code A label to denote a functional category of manufactured telecommunications equipment within a family. This data element shall consist of two characters, either of which may be alphabetic or numeric. An example is

、UI, representing a Unit Interface. 4.3 Features Code A standardized code to denote a distinctive service-providing design capability available within a subfamily of manufactured telecommunication equipment when compared to other similar equipment of the same or other manufacturers. This data element

、 shall consist of three characters, each of which may be alphabetic or numeric. Manufacturers examples are: ATIS-0300213.2006 3 ADA, Meaning: 4 PORT OC-192C/STM-64C POS/DPT INTERFACE MODULE, SUPPORTS POS, PPP AND HDCL CARD TYPE: LINE INTERFACE PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: PLUG-IN RATE: OC-192 / 10 GB/S, ST
