AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD Approval of an American National Standard requires review by ANSI that the requirements for due process, consensus, and other criteria for approval have been met by the standards developer. Consensus is established when, in the judgment of the ANSI Boar

6、d of Standards Review, substantial agreement has been reached by directly and materially affected interests. 11、00308.2008 3 Alter the system software or firmware, affecting equipment functional performance; or Interfere with stored or transmitted information or data, resulting in malfunction and system errors. 4.2 Immunity Equipment shall conform to the ESD test requirement of clause 6. In addition, equipmen

12、t should conform to the ESD test objective of clause 7 (immunity criteria for normal operation and expanded test requirements that include immunity criteria for installation and maintenance). 4.3 Manufacturer notification requirements 4.3.1 Environmental Special requirements for site preparation, re

13、strictions on the ambient air, relative humidity control, or the choice of materials for furniture or flooring shall be clearly specified by the manufacturer in the product documentation. 4.3.2 Maintenance Equipment documentation supplied to field personnel by the manufacturer shall contain explicit

14、 instructions about procedures to be followed (e.g., use of wrist straps) to prevent electrostatic discharge damage during installation, adjustment, operation, storage, or field repair. 4.3.3 Transportation Where appropriate, instructions to use only antistatic packing materials shall appear in the

15、descriptive documentation. For example, packing materials for subassemblies are covered in informative reference EIA 541 1988 Packaging Material Standards for ESD Sensitive Items. 5 TEST PREPARATION, PROCEDURE, AND RESPONSE CATEGORIES The procedures of this clause shall be used to test to the requir

16、ements of clause 6 and the objectives of clause 7. The ESD immunity tests specified in this standard shall not be applied to in-service systems. The tests shall be applied to production samples that are configured and operated in a manner that reflects normal applications and design-intended functio

17、ns. ATIS-0600308.2008 4 5.1 Preparation 5.1.1 Environmental In the case of air discharge testing, the equipment assembly shall be tested in an environment of 15C to 35C, 30% to 60% relative humidity, and 68 kPa to 106 kPa (680 mbar to 1060 mbar) atmospheric pressure. The EUT shall be stabilized at t

18、hese specified conditions immediately before testing. 5.1.2 Equipment Terminations Power leads and other connections on equipment assemblies that have a path to ground for electrostatic discharge currents during normal operation shall be appropriately terminated. 5.1.3 Equipment Exercising ESD tests

19、 shall be performed on fully operational, suitably configured, and typically loaded production equipment, containing all necessary hardware, software, and firmware for its intended application. Test programs and software shall be chosen so as to exercise all normal modes of operation of the equipmen

20、t. For conformance testing, the equipment shall be continually operated in its most sensitive mode, which may be determined by preliminary testing. 5.2 Procedure Unless otherwise stated in this document, electrostatic discharge tests shall be conducted in accordance with IEC 61000-4-2, Edition 1.2,

21、clause 8. The test setup specified in IEC61000-4-2 clause 7, for tests performed in laboratories is the preferred method. The EUT shall demonstrate its ability to perform its design-intended function(s) before, during, and after electrostatic discharges are applied. A test report, including the test

22、 results, shall be prepared. 5.2.1 Application of contact vs. air discharges Contact discharges shall be applied to conducting surfaces of the EUT and to coupling planes. Air discharges shall be applied to non-conducting (insulating) surfaces, e.g., surfaces containing insulating paint or other insu

23、lating coating. It is generally not allowed to mix contact and air discharges for conductive surface testing. Tests shall include the application of indirect discharges to both the Horizontal Coupling Plane (HCP) and the Vertical Coupling Plane (VCP) as specified in IEC 61000-4-2, subclause 8.3.2 .

24、5.2.2 Polarity Discharges shall be applied in both positive and negative polarities. ATIS-0600308.2008 5 5.2.3 Selection of test points Those points and surfaces on equipment assemblies, (including consoles) that are likely to be touched during normal operation, routine adjustment, or testing, shall

25、 be tested. Examples of test points to which discharges shall be applied include: panels, doors, and exposed structural frame areas on equipment assemblies; consoles and terminals; pushbuttons; keyboards and keypads; circuit pack faceplates and extractor tabs; lamps and light-emitting diodes; circui

26、t breakers; accessible fuses and fuse holders; switches; test-plug receptacles; sockets designed for metallic plugs such as telephone jacks; exposed metallic shells of cable plugs and connectors; and wrist strap jacks. If wrist strap jacks are located behind doors or panels, the doors or panels shal

27、l be opened or removed to discharge to the wrist strap jacks. Discharges shall also be applied to edges and inner surfaces of open doors. Test points shall also include the horizontal and vertical coupling planes as discussed in IEC 61000-4-2, subclause 8.3.2. Wiring backplanes and any other intenti

28、onally exposed wiring on equipment shall not be tested. Test points shall not be assigned to these items. 5.3 Test response categories Central office equipment response to ESD may be either non-service-affecting, service-affecting, or require manual intervention. 5.3.1 Non-Service Affecting A non-se

29、rvice-affecting response is when the intended functions provided by the equipment remain unaffected by the application of electrostatic discharges. Momentary interrupts and other self-correcting responses, if within agreed to system-operating and frequency-of-occurrence criteria, are not considered

30、service-affecting. 5.3.2 Service-Affecting A service-affecting response is an interruption of the equipments intended functions that does not self-correct within agreed to system-operating and frequency-of-occurrence criteria. Examples of service-affecting responses include, but are not limited to,

31、loss of established calls or calls in progress, bit errors (that exceed the permitted threshold for the specific application), synchronization errors, data transmission errors, and loss or corruption of stored data. 5.3.3 Manual Interventions Manual intervention is considered to have occurred when i

32、t becomes necessary to physically interact with the equipment to restore normal operation, such as clearing alarms, resetting circuit breakers, replacing fuses, or typing a command at a control console. ATIS-0600308.2008 6 MINIMUM TEST REQUIREMENTS In the absence of more stringent requirements relat

33、ing to a specific application, the following minimum criteria shall apply. Equipment shall be subjected to ten discharges of each polarity, both positive and negative to the discharge levels defined in IEC 61000-4-2 clause 5. Level 3 type discharges shall be used. For contact discharges, the EUT wou

34、ld be subjected to 2, 4, and 6 kV levels. For air discharges, the EUT would be subjected to 2, 4, 6, and 8 kV levels. (See IEC 61000-4-2 subclause 8.3.) Responses to electrostatic discharges shall be non-service-affecting. Service-affecting responses - unless within system operating limits - and man

35、ual interventions (see 5.3) shall not occur. 7 EXPANDED TEST OBJECTIVES This clause provides a test that is intended to minimize the need for special ESD mitigative measures, such as the use of wrist straps, during installation and repair operations. In addition to the test points of 5.2.3, discharg

36、es should also be applied to those points and surfaces that may be contacted during installation and repair of the equipment. Examples include equipment frames and shelves that are behind closed doors or panels, faceplates and extractor tabs of circuit packs, switches, fuses, jacks, and any other su

37、rface likely to be touched by installation and repair personnel. Equipment shall be subjected to Test Level 4 (8 kV) for contact discharges and Test Level 4 (15 kV) for air discharges, of IEC 61000-4-2, clause 5. A total of 20 air discharges or 20 contact discharges shall be applied to each test poi

38、nt selected in accordance with the test procedure of IEC 61000-4-2, clause 8, selected in accordance with 5.2.3. The EUT shall not require manual intervention nor be service-affecting as a consequence of these ESD events (see 5.3). 8 EQUIPMENT LABELING Equipment not meeting the objective of clause 7

39、 shall have cautionary labels on the equipment and system documentation indicating ESD sensitivity, and instruct that ESD mitigative procedures (such as the wearing of a wrist strap) be used during installation, maintenance, and repair. 6 ATIS-0600308.2008 7 Annex A (informative) A ESD ASSOCIATION S

40、TANDARD 14.0 System Level Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Simulator Verification A.1 Background ESD Association WG-14 has recently published SP14.1-2004 System Level Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Simulator Verification, Working group 14 produced this “Standard Practice” document, which is defined as a

41、 consensus of a group of experts (the members of the working group) that this is a good way to measure something. A standard practice has, however, not been proven to produce a reproducible result through experimentations such as round-robin studies. If this document is proven reproducible, it becom

42、es a Standard Test Method and it can be a Standard if it includes classification values. The term “simulator” is synonymous with the term “generator” as used in IEC 61000-4-2. A.2 Summary of work The ESD Association 14.0 Standards Committee is working to characterize the performance of: ESD simulato

43、rs IEC 61000-4-2 specifies the waveform in clause 6.2. The ESD Association 14.0 Standards Committee is working to develop a calibration standard for IEC, and compliant simulators that more precisely defines the waveform to eliminate this problem. The calibration will be in addition to that specified

44、 in IEC 61000-4-2 1.2 , and the simulator will remain IEC 61000-4-2 (2002) 1.2, compliant. A.3 Simulator Radiation The ESD Association 14.0 Standards Committee is also working on characterizing the radiation from simulators and their cables. A.4 Availability This standard practice was developed to p

45、rovide guidance to designers, manufacturers, and calibration facilities for verification and specification of the systems and fixtures used to measure simulator discharge currents.
