3、is specification prescribes the requirements for classifications of copper and copper-alloy electrodes for shieldedmetal arc welding. Classification is based on chemical composition, mechanical properties, and usability of theelectrodes. Additional requirements are included for manufacture, sizes, l

4、engths, and packaging. A guide is appended tothe specification as a source of information concerning the classification system employed and intended use of theelectrodes.This specification makes use of both U.S. Customary Units and the International System of Units (SI). Since these arenot equivalen

8、M:2008Statement on the Use of American Welding Society StandardsAll standards (codes, specifications, recommended practices, methods, classifications, and guides) of the AmericanWelding Society (AWS) are voluntary consensus standards that have been developed in accordance with the rules of theAmeric

9、an National Standards Institute (ANSI). When AWS American National Standards are either incorporated in, ormade part of, documents that are included in federal or state laws and regulations, or the regulations of other govern-mental bodies, their provisions carry the full legal authority of the stat

10、ute. In such cases, any changes in those AWSstandards must be approved by the governmental body having statutory jurisdiction before they can become a part ofthose laws and regulations. In all cases, these standards carry the full legal authority of the contract or other documentthat invokes the AWS

11、 standards. Where this contractual relationship exists, changes in or deviations from requirementsof an AWS standard must be by agreement between the contracting parties.AWS American National Standards are developed through a consensus standards development process that bringstogether volunteers rep

12、resenting varied viewpoints and interests to achieve consensus. While the AWS administers theprocess and establishes rules to promote fairness in the development of consensus, it does not independently test, evalu-ate, or verify the accuracy of any information or the soundness of any judgments conta

Tables and

27、 figures make use of both U.S.Customary and SI Units, which, with the application of the specified tolerances, provide for interchangeability of productsin both U.S. Customary and SI Units.This revision makes adjustments in the chemical composition ranges for classifications ECu, ECuAl-A2, ECuAl-B,E

28、CuNiAl, and ECuMnNiAl to meet with current industry practice. These modified ranges are shown in Italic font inTable 1. It also eliminates the bend test requirements for ECuAl-B, ECuNiAl, and ECuMnNiAl whose elongation in theall-weld metal tension test is less than 20%. The nomograph in the previous

Scope1.1 This specification prescribes requirements for theclassification of covered copper and copper-al

39、loy elec-trodes for shielded metal arc welding. It includes compo-sitions in which the copper content exceeds that of anyother element.11.2 Safety and health issues and concerns are beyond thescope of this standard and therefore are not fullyaddressed herein. Some safety and health informationcan be

Safety and health information is available fromother sources, including, but not limited to, ANSI Z49.1,Safety in Welding, Cutting, and Allied Processes, andapplicable federal and state regulations.This specification makes use of both U.S. Customary

Themeasurements are not exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem must be used independently of the other withoutcombining in any way when referring to material proper-ties. The specification with the designation A5.6 usesU.S. Customary Units. The spe
