7、g Society (AWS) are voluntary consensus standards that have been developed in accordance with the rules of theAmerican National Standards Institute (ANSI). When AWS American National Standards are either incorporated in, ormade part of, documents that are included in federal or state laws and regula

8、tions, or the regulations of other govern-mental bodies, their provisions carry the full legal authority of the statute. In such cases, any changes in those AWSstandards must be approved by the governmental body having statutory jurisdiction before they can become a part ofthose laws and regulations

9、. In all cases, these standards carry the full legal authority of the contract or other documentthat invokes the AWS standards. Where this contractual relationship exists, changes in or deviations from requirementsof an AWS standard must be by agreement between the contracting parties.AWS American N

10、ational Standards are developed through a consensus standards development process that bringstogether volunteers representing varied viewpoints and interests to achieve consensus. While the AWS administers theprocess and establishes rules to promote fairness in the development of consensus, it does

This specification establishesthe qualification requirements from which a central certification agency or an employer may develop a certificationprogram for these pro

29、fessionals.This is the second edition of this specification. This edition canvassed a larger group in order to improve upon therequirements in the first edition, and to make this document more responsive to industry needs.The Qualification and Certification Committee of the American Welding Society

30、was formed in 1973. In 1996, it wasdivided into two committees. The Personnel and Facilities Qualification Committee is now responsible for creatingAmerican National Standards for the qualification of welding personnel and welding facilities. The AWS CertificationCommittee is now responsible for cre

This standard defines the minimum edu-cation, experience, and knowledge necessary for indi-viduals to function effectively sales representatives in thewelding industry. It provides a method, through docu-

35、mentation of education and experience and a writtenexamination, to qualify an individual as a Welding SalesRepresentative (WSR). It also provides general job func-tions a WSR should be able to perform.1.2 Safety and Health. Some safety and health issuesmay be beyond the scope of this standard and th

36、ereforenot be fully addressed by this standard. Qualification RequirementsA Candidate shall meet the requiremen

43、ts of Clauses 6and 7 to be qualified as a WSR. There is only one level ofqualification for WSR.5. Duties and Capabilities5.1 Duties5.1.1 The WSR, as a minimum, shall be capable ofdemonstrating the use of welding equipment and sup-plies, directing sales of welding supplies and equipment,practicing ap

44、propriate sales ethics, determining customerneeds, and providing customer support.5.1.2 The Employer shall define the WSRs specificduties. The Employer is responsible for verifying that theWSR is qualified to perform the duties and tasks asassigned.5.2 Capabilities. The WSR shall have:(1) Basic know

45、ledge in the application of industrialgases for welding and cutting processes including thesafe handling and storage of industrial gases(2) Basic knowledge and safe practices of weldingprocesses such as gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gasmetal arc welding (GMAW), flux cored arc welding(FCAW), shiel

46、ded metal arc welding (SMAW), and sub-merged arc welding (SAW)(3) The technical knowledge to determine when awelding procedure is required for a given application(4) The technical knowledge to assist in selecting themost appropriate welding or cutting process for a givenapplication(5) Basic knowledg

47、e of when the application or useof hardfacing or corrosion resistant overlay is to be used(6) Basic knowledge and safe practices of cuttingprocesses, including mechanical and various thermal(oxyacetylene, plasma, etc.) processes(7) Basic knowledge of brazing and soldering pro-cesses and their filler

Education and Experience RequirementsThe Candidate shall:(1) Be a high school graduate or hold a state or mili-tary approved high school equivalency diploma (e.g.,GED).(2) Have no fewer than two years of experience in anoccupational function in direct relation to the sales ofwelding equ

49、ipment, cutting equipment, and supplies andother related services.(3) Have a training certificate of completion forwelding processes, cutting processes, and filler metal ifhe or she has less than five years of experience in anoccupational function in direct relation to the sales ofwelding equipment, cutting equipment, and supplies andother related services.(4) Provide verifiable evidence the requirements of(1), (2), and (3) above have been met.7. Examination Structure and Body of KnowledgeThe Candidate shall pass a written examination todemonstrate knowledge of the capabilities listed i
