PREFACE This publication represents a basic standard for safe operation, substantial and durable constru

、ction, and acceptable performance of gas-fired toilets. It is the result of years of experience in the manufacture, testing, installation and mainte- nance of and research on toilets designed for the utilization of gas. Nothing in this standard is to be considered in any way as indicating a measure

、of quality beyond compliance with the provisions it contains. It is designed to allow compliance of gas-fired toilets, the construction and performance of which may exceed the various provisions specified herein. In its preparation, full recognition has been given to possibilities of improvement thr

、ough ingenuity of design. As progress takes place, revisions may become necessary. When they are believed desirable, recommendations should be forwarded to the Chairman of the American National Standards Committee 221, 8501 East Pleasant Valley Road, Cleveland, Ohio 44131. Safe and satisfactory oper

、ation of a gas-fired toilet depends to a great extent upon its proper installation, and it should be installed, as applicable, in accordance with the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI 2223.1-1980; the Manufactured Home Con- struction and Safety Standard, Title 24 CFR, Part 32-80 formerly the Federal Stan

HISTORY OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF STANDARD FOR GAS-FIRED TOILETS (This History is informative and is not part of the standa

、rd.) American National Standards Committee 221, at its April 5, 1972 meeting, agreed that a standard for gas-fired toilets utilizing an incineration process should be developed and assigned the task to its Subcommittee on Standards for Domestic Gas-Fired Incinerators. Prior to this time, the constru

、ction and performance of gas-fired toilets had been evaluated under the applicable provisions of the domestic gas-fired incinerator standard (221.6) and guidelines formulated by the 221 incinerator subcommit- tee. A draft of the standard for gas-fired toilets, patterned after the domestic incinerato

、r standard, was reviewed and modified by the incinerator subcommittee at its June 12-13, 1973 meeting, by a working group of the subcommittee at its February 18-19,1974 meeting, and again by the subcom- mittee at its November 6-7, 1974 meeting. The resultant fourth draft standard, which covered both

、 natural draft and forced draft appliances for indoor installation, includ- ing in mobile homes and recreational vehicles, was dis- tributed for review and comment during January 1975. The incinerator subcommittee, at its October 21,1975 meeting, following reconsideration of the draft standard in th

、e light of comments received, recommended the draft standard to the 221 Committee. The 221 Committee subse- quently adopted the proposed stndard at its April 14,1976 meeting. The first edition of the gas-fired toilet standard was approved as American National Standard by the American National Standa

、rds Institute, Inc., on January 5, 1977. Following the procedure outlined above, further revi- sions to this standard were developed in line with industry developments. This, the second edition of the gas-fired toilet standard, was approved as American National Stan- dard by the American National St
