10、ve the ESTA membership and the en-tertainment industry in technical standards related matters. The goal of the Program is to take aleading role regarding technology within the entertainment industry by creating recommended prac-tices and standards, monitoring standards issues around the world on beh

11、alf of our members, andimproving communications and safety within the industry. ESTA works closely with the technical stan-dards efforts of other organizations within our industry including USITT, PLASA, and VPLT as well asrepresenting the interests of ESTA members to ANSI, UL, and the NFPA. The Tec

12、hnical StandardsProgram is accredited by the American National Standards Institute as Accredited Standards Commit-tee E1, Safety and Compatibility of Entertainment Technical Equipment and Practices.The Technical Standards Committee (TSC) was established by ESTAs Board of Directors to over-see and co

13、ordinate the Technical Standards Program. Made up of individuals experienced in stan-dards-making work from throughout our industry, the Committee approves all projects undertaken andassigns them to the appropriate working group. The Technical Standards Committee employs a Tech-nical Standards Manag

14、er to coordinate the work of the Committee and its working groups as well asmaintain a “Standards Watch” on behalf of members. Working groups include: Camera Cranes, Con-trol Protocols, Electrical Power, Floors, Fog and Smoke, Photometrics, and Rigging.ESTA encourages active participation in the Tec

15、hnical Standards Program. There are several ways tobecome involved. If you would like to become a member of an existing working group, as have overtwo hundred people, you must complete an application which is available from the ESTA office. Yourapplication is subject to approval by the working group

16、 and you will be required to actively participatein the work of the group. This includes responding to letter ballots and attending meetings. Member-ship in ESTA is not a requirement. You can also become involved by requesting that the TSC developa standard or a recommended practice in an area of co

17、ncern to you.The Electrical Power Working Group, which authored this standard, consists of a cross section ofentertainment industry professionals representing manufacturers, consultants, dealers, and end-users. ESTA is committed to developing consensus-based standards and recommended practices inan

20、tandard practice for grounding contact assignment for detachable powercables on 6kW, 12kW and 18kW metal-halide lamp ballasts used in the motion picture and televi-sion industries on portable studio luminaires that use the MIL-C-5015 connector with #28-6 insertconfiguration on the ballast end of the

21、 power cable.2 PurposeThe use of a standardized pin assignment will reduce the possibility of ballast chassis to un-grounded power conductor connections caused by mismatched cables and ballasts.3 RequirementsConnectors on detachable power cables for use on 6kW, 12kW and 18kW metal-halide lamp bal-la

22、sts with MIL-C-5015 equivalent #28-6 insert configurations (one-piece construction) and contactconfiguration (screw machine) shall designate the “A” position as the grounding contact.
