This FOTP is part of the series of test procedures included within Recommended Standard EIA/TIA-455. NOTE: This FOTP was o

17、riginally published in EIA-455-42 as FOTP-42. 1.0 SCOPE The intent of this procedure is to determine the crosstalk ratios between any two optical paths in a cable, connectsrized cable, splice or similar device. In addition, the devices contribution to the crosstalk in a system, may be determined. The

18、 effectiveness of the material surrounding the optical conducting device in restricting light paths to other elements may also be measured. However, note that the test methods of FOTP-180 should be used to measure crosstalk in fiber optic couplers (branching devices) and in similar devices of this c

21、 TEST 3.1 3.2 3.3 EQUIPMENT Optical Power Source A noncoherent light source full width half maximum (FWHM) greater than 40 nm operating at a specified wavelength or with a spectral range that covers the wavelengths of systems operation shall be used. The source stability and spectral width shall be

22、as specified in the Detail Specification. The source shall be of sufficient intensity to produce a light level at the exit of the source fiber that is at least 40 dB above the noise Eloor of the detection system. Launch Optics Unless otherwisk specified, the launch optics shall be such than anoverfi

23、lled launch condition is obtained. , Detector A detector which is linear (within 5%) over the range of radiation intensity shall be used. The detector shall be capable.of capturing the entire output of the fiber. A lock-in amplifier type system, or equivalent, shall be used because of the low level

O TEXT .SAMPLE 4.1 The test sample shall be one of the following (seeFigures 1 and 2): 4.1.1 If the test sample is to be a cable only, the test sample shall consist of 20 f: 2 meters (65.6 f: 6.6 feet) of a representative section of the specified cable/fiber combinati

25、on. If the test sample is to be a connecting device only, the test sample shall be a representative specimen of the specified connecting device. The fibers/cables to be used in the connecting device shall be specified in the Detail Specification. .: 4.1.2 4.1.3 If the test sample is to be a cable/fi

26、ber/ connscting device combination, both the cable/fiber combination and the connecting device(s) shall be representative specimens. The cable shall be of sufficient length such that after the connecting device is inserted in the middle, there will still be 20 f 2 meters (65.6 t- 6.6 feet) of the ca

28、e Packaging The sample shall be suspended in a manner which relieves tension and minimizes fiber microbending. Unless otherwise specified, no external microbending shall intentionally be introduced. 4.3 Sample Preparation Remove the cable jacketing from both ends of each length of any cable used in

29、this test. The amount of jacketing removed or cut back shall be sufficient (a) to allow necessary preparation of all cable ends (refer to FOTP-57 or to other instructions as appropriate) and (b) to allow , the launch or detection of the signal or the installation of a connecting device. Alternativel

30、y, appropriately terminated (connectorized) cables of proper length may be used in lieu of these cutback operations. 5.0 PROCEDURE 5.1 The following values are measured or calculated in this procedure: = input power to source/reference fiber (measured at output end), r = far end output power from th

With the exception of the launch fiber, the termini of all fibers in each of the test cables shall be mounted on a detector. If a connecting device is used, all ports shall have fibe

If more than one detector is used

A lock-in amplifier type system, or equivalent, shall be used to isolate test sources from background noise (room lighting). 5.4 The input end of the source/reference fiber shall

The output of the so6rce fiber shall be at legst 40 dB above the noise floor of the detection system. 5.5 Align. the ends of the test fiber to the detectors so that maximum signal is detected; measure
