22、tendency to produce torsion and rotation about an axis, equal to the vector product of the radius vector from the axis of rotation to the point of application of the force and the force vector. A turning or twisting force, usually expressed in pound-force inch (lbf in), pound-force foot (lbf ft), or

24、ply a suitable (preferably clean and dry) compressed gas supply to operate the actuator 3.5 sizing torques torque values, supplied by the valve manufacturer are maximums for the service conditions specified. The sizing torques are based upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the fo

25、llowing factors: service conditions (e.g. maximum differential shutoff pressure, fluid media, frequency of operation, etc.), valve type, and valve seating type (soft seat or metal seat). Safety factors, supplied by user, shall be applied to these values resulting in torques to be used for actuator s

26、election. The nominal torque required to cycle the valve as supplied by the valve manufacturer. This shall be based upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the following factors: service conditions (e.g. maximum differential shutoff pressure, fluid media, frequency of operation, etc

27、.), valve type, and valve seating type (soft seat or metal seat). 3.6 Maximum Allowable Operating Pressure (MAOP) the pressure, which an actuator will operate normally, producing torque according to the published tables and torque curves 3.7 Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) the maximum pres

28、sure allowed at full stroke 3.8 Maximum Allowable Stem Torque (MAST) the maximum allowable torque that can be applied to specific valve stem material prior to physical permanent damage 3.9 single-acting actuator an actuator that is powered in one direction by its operating medium and, upon loss of t

29、he medium, the actuator is driven to its fail safe state by mechanical means (e.g. spring). Often referred to as a spring return unit. 3.10 double-acting actuator an actuator that is powered in either direction by its operating medium 3.11 Maximum Operating Pressure (MOP) the maximum pressure that w

30、ill be supplied to stroke an actuator (which must be compared to actuator MAOP) ANSI/ISA-96.03-01-2012 - 12 - Figure 4 Single-acting actuators - 13 - ANSI/ISA-96.03-01-2012 Figure 5 Double-acting actuators 4 Design requirements 4.1 The main components of the scotch yoke actuator are as follows: a) c

31、enter body (drive module) b) pneumatic piston cylinder c) spring canister (single acting units only) 4.2 The actuator shall have an integral, visual position indicator, showing start, intermediate, and end of travel positions. ANSI/ISA-96.03-01-2012 - 14 - 4.3 Actuators should have adjustable positi

32、on stops to limit travel (typically +/- 5 degrees at each end for a maximum total travel of 100 degrees). 4.4 Jam nuts or lock nuts shall be utilized to prevent accidental adjustment of the travel stops. 4.5 The center body (or housing) shall be of a fully enclosed design, to minimize the possibilit

33、y of injury to personnel during operation and to retain lubricant. 4.6 Spring return cartridges should be of a totally enclosed design. 4.7 Spring return models shall incorporate an inherently safe spring design that allows the actuator to be safely assembled and disassembled in the field (caution t

34、ags must be included to identify the spring enclosed mechanism). The spring return mechanism shall be designed in such a way that corrosion failure of the outer spring canister, or the bolting holding the spring casing to the center body, cannot result in “launching” the spring mechanism away from t

35、he actuator assembly. 4.8 The actuator shall be capable of being mounted and operated in any position. NOTE The user will specify actuator orientation when orientation critical control components will be furnished (i.e. filter regulator). 4.9 The output drive of the actuator can be configured to tur

36、n clockwise (CW) or counter clockwise (CCW) to close the driven device. Furthermore, if the actuator is single-acting, it can be configured to fail spring CW or CCW. The user shall specify closing direction and failure position. 4.10 Interface between the scotch yoke type actuator and the valve shal

37、l be as per ISO-5211, MSS SP-101, or manufacturer standard. 4.11 Mounted accessories may not necessarily be DIN EN ISO 5211/DIN EN 15081 (NAMUR Recommendation NE 14) compliant, but the actuator should be designed to meet NAMUR mounting dimensions where practicable. 5 Construction 5.1 Center body 5.1

38、.1 The center body shall be a totally enclosed weatherproof housing as per NEMA 4 and IP 65. 5.1.2 The center body shall incorporate a means to protect against over-pressurization due to pneumatic supply or process. Each manufacturer will have its own method for accomplishing overpressure protection

39、. 5.1.3 Center body lubrication shall be achieved by component grease coating. 5.1.4 A means to support the transverse loads of the scotch yoke mechanism shall be incorporated into the design (e.g. bearings, guide bar or other arrangements). 5.1.5 The yoke should be constructed of a high yield ducti

40、le iron or similar strength material to ensure the torque producing components are capable of withstanding the actuators MAWP. Sliding surfaces should be manufactured out of dissimilar metals or dissimilar metal hardness to prevent galling. - 15 - ANSI/ISA-96.03-01-2012 5.2 Cylinder module 5.2.1 As

41、a minimum, piston rods should be manufactured from a corrosion resistant material, treated material, or plated (e.g. electroless nickel, chromium plated alloy steel, or nitro carburizing). 5.2.2 Cylinders shall be constructed of a metallic material unless the application requires other non metallic

42、materials. 5.2.3 The inside surface of the cylinder barrel should be smooth and either manufactured from, or protected with, a corrosion resistive material. 5.2.4 If utilized, tie rods shall be either carbon or alloy steel or similar strength material to ensure the cylinders safety factor is within

43、the manufacturers requirements and is suitable for the applications environment. 5.2.5 Pistons shall be carbon steel, stainless steel, or ductile iron and incorporate a dynamic floating seal, o-ring type seal, or piston u-cup seal. 5.2.6 Cylinder end flanges/caps shall be constructed of carbon steel

44、, stainless steel, or ductile iron. Cast aluminum shall not be used. 5.2.7 All springs shall be corrosion resistant or coated for corrosion resistance. 5.2.8 Materials of construction of actuators powered by sour gas shall comply with NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156. 6 Manual overrides Jackscrew, hydraulic

45、or gearbox overrides are acceptable methods for manual operation when specified. The manufacturer is responsible to ensure that operation of either type can be accomplished safely. The user shall examine ergonomics for suitability. Hydraulic overrides are orientation specific; therefore, the manufac

46、turer must know the actuator orientation to properly configure the hydraulic override. The gearbox shall be permanently sealed against atmospheric conditions or be provided with a means for periodic lubrication. 7 Corrosion protection 7.1 Actuators shall be protected against external corrosion by pr

47、oper material selection and/or surface treatment as well as be acceptable for use in a marine environment when specified by the user. If extreme or harsh environmental service conditions exist, the user shall communicate the existence of these conditions, to enable the supplier to properly select co

48、rrosion protection. If the actuator is installed in a harsh environment that could result in possible internal corrosion, then the user should consider a closed loop air supply system that will eliminate the ingress of ambient air into the cylinder that may cause corrosion to internal parts of the a

49、ctuator. Consult the actuator manufacturer/automator before using air assist to ensure that using air pressure on the spring side will not overload the valve shaft or actuator, resulting in damage. 7.2 User shall specify environmental conditions for the proper selection of the yoke and or spring enclosure ratings (i.e. NEMA 4 or IP 65). 8 Testing 8.1 As a minimum, each pneumatic piston cylinder shall be tested for external leakage at the MAOP. No detectable leakage shall be permitted. The manufacturer shall have an acceptance test for leakage across the piston seals. ANSI/IS
