22、vv nNational Electrical Installation Standards are intend-ed to improve communication among specifiers, pur-chasers, and suppliers of electrical construction ser-vices. They define a minimum baseline of qualityand workmanship for installing electrical productsand systems. NEIS are intended to be ref

23、erenced incontract documents for electrical construction pro-jects. The following language is recommended:Generator sets for on-site power generation atone-family dwellings shall be installed in accor-dance with NECA 406-2003, Standard forInstalling Residential Generator Sets (ANSI).Use of NEIS is v

24、oluntary, and the National ElectricalContractors Association assumes no obligation or lia-bility to users of this publication. Existence of astandard shall not preclude any member or non-member of NECA from specifying or using alternateconstruction methods permitted by applicable regu-lations.This p

25、ublication is intended to comply with the edi-tion of the National Electrical Code (NEC) in effectat the time of publication. Because they are qualitystandards, NEIS may in some instances go beyondthe minimum requirements of the NEC. It is theresponsibility of users of this publication to complywith

26、 state and local electrical codes when installingelectrical products and systems.Suggestions for revisions and improvements to thisstandard are welcome. They should be addressed to:NECA Standards leaking ordamaged hoses should be re-tightened orreplaced as required. Check drive belts to insure they

27、are in good con-dition and properly tensioned; adjust or replaceas necessary. Check engine mounting bolts for tightness; re-tighten if necessary.7 . 2 Starting Engine for the First T i m ea) Insure that all pre-energizing procedures in 7.1have been completed correctly.b) Press the starter switch.c)

28、If engine fails to start within 30 seconds, releasethe starter switch and allow the starting motor tocool for two minutes before trying again.d) If engine fails to start after four attempts, conductan inspection to determine the cause.7 . 3 Engine Governor AdjustmentIf the generator AC output voltag

29、e or frequency areoutside of manufacturers specifications, adjust theengine governor following manufacturers instruc-tions.7. Energizing and Testing theGenerator Setn 18Energizing and Testing the Generator Set19 n7 . 4 Voltage Regulator AdjustmentSome residential generators are equipped with volt-ag

30、e regulators in addition to engine governors. If theoutput AC power frequency is correct but the voltageis not within the specified tolerances, adjust the volt-age regulator following manufacturers instructions.7 . 5 Performance Te s t i n ga) For routine operational checks and load tests, runthe en

31、gine at no load for about five minutes to warmup.b) Apply a load equal to or greater than 35 percentof the generator nameplate rating.c) Operate the unit until temperatures stabilize.8 . 1 Site Clean-Upa) Vacuum all scrap, wire, dust and other debrisfrom the generator, transfer switch, panelboard(s)

32、and associated equipment. Do not use compressedair to blow debris out of the generator, since is maycause debris to settle inside devices and impair theirability to function.b) Replace all parts and covers. Check for anypinched wires and close all doors. Make sure theenclosure parts are properly al

33、igned and fastenedsecurely.c) When recycling options are available at the jobsite, separate used packing materials by type andrecycle them.d) Dispose of non-recyclable packing materialsappropriately.8 . 2 Punchlist and Acceptancea) Walk through project with owner/architect/gener-al contractor.b) Tou

34、ch-up and repair all minor defects.c) Turn over all manuals, spare parts, and a set ofspecial tools (where required) for generator adjust-ments or tamper-proof hardware, to the owner/archi-tect/general contractor owner.
