11、esigned to improve communication among specifiers, purchasers, and suppliers of electrical construction services. They define a minimum baseline of quality and workmanship for installing electrical products and systems. NEISare intended to be referenced in contract documents for electrical construct

12、ion projects. The following language is recommended:Busways should be installed and maintained in accordance with NECA 408-2015, Standard for Installing and Maintaining Busways (ANSI).Use of NEIS is voluntary, and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) assumes no obligation or liabil

13、ity to users of this publication. Existence of a standard shall not preclude any member or non-member of NECA from specifying or using alternate construction methods permitted by applicable regulations.This publication is intended to comply with the edition of the National Electrical Code (NEC). Scope1.1 Applications and Products IncludedThis standard describes the installation and maintenance procedures for feeder and plug-in busways and accessories rated 600 Volts AC or less, and 100 Amperes

19、 or more, installed above ground. It also covers periodic routine maintenance procedures for busway, and special procedures used after adverse operating conditions such as a short-circuit, ground-fault, or immersion in water.1.2 Applications and Products ExcludedThis publication does not cover light

20、ing busway, trolley busway, cable-bus, or medium-voltage or metal-enclosed busway.1.3 Regulatory and Other RequirementsAll information in this publication is intended to conform to the NEC (ANSI/NFPA 70). Installers shall follow the NEC, applicable state and local codes, manufacturers instructions,

21、and contract documents when installing stored energy systems.Only qualified persons as defined in the NEC familiar with the construction and installation of busways shall perform the technical work described in this publication. Administrative functions such as receiving, handling and storing requir

22、ed in Section 4, and other tasks may be performed under the supervision of a qualified person. All work shall be performed in accordance with NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. General requirements for installing electrical products and systems are described in NECA 1, Standa

23、rd for Good Workmanship in Electrical Construction (ANSI). Other NEIS provide additional guidance for installing particular types of electrical products and systems. A complete list of NEIS is provided in Annex A.1.4 Mandatory Requirements, Permissive Requirements, Quality and Performance Recommenda

24、tions, Explanatory Material, and Informative AnnexesMandatory Requirements. Mandatory requirements in manufacturers instructions, or of Codes or other mandatory Standards that may or not be adopted into law, are those that identify actions that are specifically required or prohibited and are charact

25、erized by the use of the terms must or must not, shall or shall not, or by the use of positive phrasing of mandatory requirements. Examples of mandatory requirements may equally take the form of, “equipment must be protected . . .,” “equipment shall be protected . . .,” or “protect equipment . . .,”

26、 with the latter interpreted (understood) as “(it is necessary to) protect equipment . . .” Permissive Requirements. Permissive requirements of manufacturers instructions, or of Codes or other mandatory Standards that may or not be adopted into law, are those that identify actions that that are allo

27、wed but not required, are normally used to describe options or alternative means and methods, and are characterized in this Standard by the use of the terms may or may not, or are permitted or are not required. Quality and Performance Recommendations. Quality and performance recommendations identity

28、 actions that are recommended or not recommended to improve the overall quality or performance of the installation and are characterized by the use of the term should or should not. n 2NECA 408 Standard for Installing and Maintaining BuswaysExplanatory Material. Explanatory material, such as referen

29、ces to other Codes, Standards, or documents, references to related sections of this Standard, information related to another Code, Standard, or document, and supplemental application and design information and data, is included throughout this Standard to expand the understanding of mandatory requir

30、ements, permissive requirements, and quality and performance recommendations. Such explanatory material is included for information only, and is Identified by the use of the term “Note,” or by the use of italicized text. Informative Annexes. Non-mandatory information, other reference standards or do

31、cuments relative to the application and use of materials, equipment, and systems covered by this Standard are provided in informative annexes. Informative annexes are not part of the enforceable requirements of this Standard, but are included for information purposes only. 3 n1. ScopeAccessories Non

32、current-carrying busway system components that are used to protect the busway, to enclose the busway, or to mount the busway to the building structure. Busway accessories include such items as covers, end caps, fasteners, flanges, and weather shields.Adapter A busway system fitting that permits the

33、 joining together of lengths and fittings of different shapes or designs.Busway A raceway consisting of a grounded metal enclosure containing factory-mounted, bare or insulated conductors, which are usually copper or aluminum bars, rods, or tubes. A busway system consists of straight lengths, access

34、ories, adapters, connectors, devices, and fittings required to form a complete, continuous electrical distribution system.Bus duct Another term sometimes used for busway. Busway is the term used in the National Electrical Code and throughout this publication.*Cablebus An approved assembly of insulat

35、ed conductors with accessories, fittings, and conductor terminations in a completely enclosed, ventilated protective metal housing. Cablebus is typically assembled in the field from components furnished or specified by the manufacturer in accordance with instructions for the specific job.Cable Tap B

36、ox A busway device that provides for busway tap connections, such as a transformer tap box.Connector A metallic coupling device of suitable electric conductance and mechanical strength used to splice together sections of busway and busway fittings.Device A busway system component connected to a busw

37、ay for the purpose of tapping the bus bars. Busway devices consist of such items as cable tap boxes and plug-in units.End Cap A busway accessory that closes the end of a busway run.Expansion Fitting A busway fitting that provides for the expansion, contraction, and movement of the busway or building

38、Feeder Busway Busway having no plug-in openings and intended primarily to supply a single piece of electrical equipment, such as a distribution switchboard, motor control center, or large individual load.Fitting A busway system component other than a straight length, such as an expansion fitting, e

39、lbow, offset, cross, tee, switchboard stub, tap box, transformer throat connection, or similar component.Flange A busway accessory that mounts to the outside of the busway and covers an opening penetrated by the busway, such as a floor, walls, or roof, or an equipment enclosure such as a switchboard

40、 or transformer.*Lighting Busway Busway designed to provide electric power and mechanical support for luminaires or other small loads.2. 41、A 408 Standard for Installing and Maintaining Busways*Metal Enclosed Busway Busway rated greater than 600 Volts and less than 38,000 Volts.Plug-in Busway Busway having plug-in openings on one or both sides at spaced intervals and offering the means for electrical connection of busway devices to the

42、busbars intended primarily for distributing power to various loads along the route of the busway.Plug-in Unit A busway device that is factory designed and assembled to provide taps to plug-in busway. Plug-in units consist of items such as fusible switches, circuit breakers, static voltage protectors

43、 ground indicating detectors, combination motor starters, lighting contactors, transformers, and capacitor plugs. Plug-in units may be equipped with additional accessories including control power transformers, relays, indicating lights, and terminal blocks for remote control and indication.Switchbo

44、ard Stub or Mounting Flange A busway fitting that provides means for mechanically and electrically connecting the busway to other electrical equipment such as switchboards or switchgear.Transformer Tap Box A busway fitting that extends the bus bars beyond its housing for the purpose of making final

45、busway-to-transformer connections using cables.Transformer Throat Connection or Mounting Flange A busway fitting that provides means for mechanically and electrically connecting busway to a transformer. A transformer mounting flange extends the bus bars beyond its housing for the purpose of making f

46、inal busway-to-transformer connections using cables, solid bussing, or flexible connectors.*Trolley Busway Busway having an insulated housing that contains exposed steel or copper bars, rods, or tubes that permits tap access at any point along the continuous length of the busway by the use of plug-i

47、n tap devices. Trolley plug-in devices are self supported and suspended from the trolley busway. Trolley busway accommodates mobile power taps for electric hoists, cranes, and portable tools.5 n1. ScopeBefore performing cleaning, inspections, testing, maintenance, or repairs, electrically isolate co

48、nductors and equipment in accordance with established written procedures. All work and actions must conform to the requirements of NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace.The process of de-energizing is considered “live” work and can result in an arc flash due to equipment failure.

49、 When de-energizing conductors and equipment, follow safety procedures for working on or near live circuits. Failure to observe these precautions may result in severe personal injury or death.3.1 GeneralFor electrical equipment to work properly, it must be handled carefully and installed, operated, and maintained correctly. Neglecting fundamental installation and maintenance requirements may lead to personal injury or death, and damage to conductors, electrical equipment, and other property.Consider all circuits and ungrounded
