(ANSI) that the requirements for due process, consensus, and other criteria for approval have been met

、 by the standards developer. An American National Standard implies a consensus of those substantially concerned with its scope and provisions. Consensus is established when, in the judgment of the ANSI Board of Standards Review, substantial agreement has been reached by directly, and materially affe

、cted interests. Substantial agreement means much more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanimity. Consensus requires that all views and objections be considered, and that a concerted effort be made toward their resolution. The existence of an American National Standard does not in any res

It is intended as a guide to aid the manufacturer, the consumer, and the general public. The American National

It also provides requirements that are common to all self-ballasted mercury lamp types. Part II contains individual lamp data sheets that provide the specific physi

、hods of measurement Measurement of the electrical characteristics and the bulb and base temperatures of self-ballasted mercury lamps shall be made in accordance with ANSI C78.389 except as indicated below. 5 Lamp Specifications (Data Sheets, Part II) Lamps are constructed with a mercury arc tube and

、 a series filament to limit current, all of which are contained within an outer jacket and connected to power mains through a screw base. Other electrical components may also be within the lamp. These lamps cannot be dismantled without being permanently damaged. Lamps must meet the requirements cont

、ained in ANSI/IEC C78.62035, as well as the specifications contained in this standard. 5.1 Lamp Designations and Descriptions 5.1.1 Lamp Designations Self-ballasted mercury lamp designations are assigned in accordance with ANSI C78.380. Note that the number (two or three digits) following the first

、upper case letter in the designation indicates a unique set of electrical characteristics. Following the electrical number, there are two-letter physical codes followed by the lamp wattage. The physical code data is provided in the lamp data sheets, Part II. Lamp marking must include wattage and inp

、ut voltage or voltage range. 5.1.2 Bulb Designation Bulb designations are defined in ANSI C79.1. Due to the long-established practice of designating the bulb diameter in eighth-of-an-inch units, this standard maintains that practice. Note that the bulb sizes listed on the lamp data sheets are intend

、ed to correspond with the common sizes listed in ANSI C79.1. The bulb designation may not correspond directly with the actual nominal diameter listed under the “lamp physical characteristics.” 5.1.3 Base Specifications Requirements for electrical lamp bases are specified in ANSI C81.61. Compliance s

、hall be checked by the relevant gauges in ANSI C81.63. 5.1.4 Beam Patterns Beam patterns are described in ANSI C78.379. 5.2 Lamp Physical Characteristics 5.2.1 Physical and Dimensional Requirements Lamps shall satisfy the requirements on the relevant lamp data sheet. The critical lamp dimensions are

、 given in SI units, with the US Customary unit equivalent in parentheses. 5.2.2 Luminaire and Temperature Requirements The luminaire characteristic for self-ballasted mercury lamps is “O” (open). The maximum permissible bulb and base temperatures for each lamp type are listed in the individual lamp

、data sheets. Self-ANSI C78.45-2016 Page 3 2016 National Electrical Manufacturers Association ballasted lamps may also be used in enclosed fixtures. In either open or enclosed luminaires, the maximum temperatures must not be exceeded. 5.3 Electrical Characteristics These lamps are powered directly fr

、om the input voltage of the line without an external ballast. Lamps must be operated within the allowed line voltage range. 5.3.1 Lamp Operating Characteristics at 100 hours Lamps must operate within the limits provided in Part II, section 3.1. The operating characteristics apply to bare lamps at an

、 ambient temperature of 25C (77F) operating on line voltages at 60 Hz within the range listed. These requirements apply to new lamps that have operated for 100 hours. 5.3.2 Lamp Starting Temperature Limitation Lamps must start over the temperature and allowed line voltage ranges indicated in Part II

、, sections 3.1 and 3.2. 5.3.3 Lamp Starting Current Measurements are made with a “zero hour,” not aged, lamp. The lamp starting currents should be no greater than the value specified in Part II, section 3.3 at the line voltage and measuring times indicated. 5.3.4 Warm-Up Time When energized at the m

、inimum allowable line voltage and operated in still air at an ambient temperature of 0C (32F), the bare lamp shall operate at a power not in excess of 110% of rated wattage after a period of time not exceeding the time limits on the individual lamp data sheets. 5.4 Maximum Outline Drawings The maxim

、um outline drawings follow the tabular data for each wattage in Part II of this standard. These drawings show for each bulb-base-MOL category the maximum limits of the space that may be occupied by any part of the bulb, assuming a fixed base position. They do not define the actual bulb shape. The li

、mits provided take into account the maximum bulb dimensions and the possible eccentricity of the bulb with respect to the base. A lamp with its base in a fixed position shall remain within the limits of the outline in the relevant maximum outline drawing. Maximum outline drawings are produced in accordance with ANSI C78.30. 6 Information for Luminaire Design CAUTION NOTICE: To insure proper operation, the luminaire shall be designed in accordance with lamp manufacturers recommendations for use and applicatio
