25、turers Association ANSI C82.17-2017 Page 1 2017 National Electrical Manufacturers Association 1 Scope This standard provides specifications for and operating characteristics of, high-frequency electronic ballasts for metal halide lamps. Electronic ballasts are devices that use semiconductors to cont

26、rol lamp starting and operation. The ballasts operate from multiple supply sources up to 600V maximum at a frequency of 60 hertz. This standard covers electronic ballasts with sinusoidal lamp operating current frequencies above 40 kHz. 2 Normative References The following standards contain provision

31、initions of terms that apply specifically to the subject treated in this American National Standard are given in ANSI C82.9. 4 Ratings 7 4.1 Preferred Supply Voltage The preferred design center supply voltage ratings for ballasts covered by this standard are 120 V, 127 V, 208 V, 220 V, 240 V, 254 V,

32、 277 V, 347 V, and 480 V. ANSI C82.17-2017 Page 2 2017 National Electrical Manufacturers Association 4.2 Supply Voltage Ranges The designated supply voltage ranges specified in the various parts of this standard shall be made available by the manufacturer in ballast catalogs, technical literature, o

33、r websites. 4.3 Load The rated load of the ballast shall be specified in terms of wattage for the lamp type (ANSI letter code) and electrical characteristic (ANSI number code) of the lamp it is intended to operate. 4.4 Lamp Starting Temperatures Ballasts are commonly designated to start and operate

34、lamps over one of the following lamp ambient temperature ranges: a. 10C (50F) and above b. 15C (5F) and above c. 30C (22F) and above d. 40C (40F) and above 4.5 Ballast Capacitive Load Rating The ballast load rating shall be the maximum value of capacitance with which the ballast may be loaded and st

35、ill meet all minimum ignition and operating requirements. The capacitive loading of the ballast/lamp system varies widely with different wiring methods and materials. Recommendations should be sought from the ballast manufacturer. 5 Ballast Performance 5.1 General All measurements necessary to deter

36、mine compliance with the ballast performance requirements of this standard shall be made in accordance with ANSI C82.6. 5.2 Lamp Operating Position The ballast shall be tested using a lamp with the appropriate electrical characteristics in the designated position described in the ANSI C78.43 lamp st

37、andards, Part III, clauses 1.3 and 4.8. 5.3 Starting Conditions To obtain reliable starting, electronic ballasts for metal halide lamps shall be designed to meet the starting parameters of 5.3.1 and 5.3.2 below. 5.3.1 Ignition Voltage Characteristics When operated at any supply voltage within 10% of

38、 the rated supply voltage and at rated input frequency, the ballast shall provide the ignition characteristics specified for the appropriate lamp in the ANSI C78.43 lamp standards. 39、supply voltage within 10% of the rated supply voltage and at rated input frequency, the ballast shall provide the starting current in compliance with the minimum and maximum requirements of the appropriate lamp in the C78.43 lamp standards. 5.3.3 Igniter Starting Sequence When operated at any supply

40、 voltage within 10% of the rated supply voltage and at rated input frequency, the ballast shall have the following starting profile for a minimum of 30 minutes: a. The ballast shall attempt to start the lamp according to the starting requirements of ANSI C78.43 from 2 to 15 minutes. b. After that ti

41、me, the ballast shall gate the start bursts OFF and ON according to the following profile: OFF: 110 minutes after each starting attempt ON: 30 sec2 minutes for each subsequent starting attempt A minimum of 3 additional start attempts are required over a total starting sequence time of at least 30 mi

43、rd (Part III, clause 4.3) with lamps that meet the starting requirements on the magnetic ballast in Part III, clause 1.6.1. ANSI C82.17-2017 Page 4 2017 National Electrical Manufacturers Association 5.3.5 Warm-Up Time Ballasts at any supply voltage within 10% of the rated supply voltage shall enable

44、 lamps to meet the minimum warm-up time requirements in the ANSI C78.43 lamp standards (Part III, clause 1.6.2) when operating lamps that also meet the standard on the specified magnetic ballast. 5.4 Ballast Input A power line circuit having the maximum impedance specified in NEMA 410 shall be used

45、to determine compliance with this clause. 5.4.1 Input Current Harmonic Distortion The harmonic distribution of the input current shall comply with the requirements of ANSI C82.77-10. 5.4.2 Inrush Current Ballasts must meet the requirements of NEMA 410. 5.5 Ballast Output 5.5.1 Lamp Operating Power 5

46、.5.1.1 Power Regulation at 100 hours Ballasts at the rated supply voltage shall operate lamps which conform to the 100 hour voltage range of ANSI C78.43, Part III, clause 4.8, within 5% of the design center wattage. Wattage excursions greater than 5% increase the risk of noticeable lamp-color variat

47、ion. 5.5.1.2 Power Regulation for Normal Voltage Lamps Ballasts at any supply voltage within 10% of the rated supply voltage shall operate any Normal Operational State lamp (see C78.43, Part III, clause 4.8) within 10% of the design center wattage as listed on the lamp data sheets. 5.5.1.3 Power Reg

48、ulation for Higher Voltage Lamps Ballasts at any supply voltage within 10% of the rated supply voltage shall operate any End-of-Life lamp at a power equal to or less than 110% of the design center wattage. Lamp power for Past End-of-Life lamps must be equal to or less than 50% of the design center w

49、attage. See C78.43, Part III, clause 4.8. 5.5.2 Operating Current Ballasts at the rated supply voltage shall operate a reference lamp at a root-mean-square (RMS) lamp current equal to or less than 105% of the RMS lamp current of a reference lamp on a reference ballast (see ANSI C78.43, Part III, clause 1.3).
