34、line terminals are included in different industry standard documents, each with their own revision cycle. The Federal Communications Commission and Industry Canada currently reference significantly different versions of these multiple standards documents in their volume control regulations. Many ter

35、minals are designed for and marketed in both the United States and Canada. Therefore, this lack of harmonization between the regulatory agencies for the two countries could result in significant problems for manufacturers of analog and/or digital wireline terminals. The purpose of this new Standard

36、is to provide a single document that can be referenced by both the Federal Communications Commission and Industry Canada in their regulations, resulting in up-to-date and harmonized regulatory volume control requirements. If at some point in the future further research results in improved measuremen

37、t techniques or other reasons to revise the volume control criteria, the requirements of both government agencies could be quickly brought up-to-date by simply pointing to the most recent version of this Standard.
