、FURTHER REPRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION WITHOUT PERMISSION FROM UL INTRODUCTION 1 Scope 1.1 These requirements cover the following elevator appliances intended for installation and operation on horizontal and vertically opening hoistway doors and gates and car doors and gates in accordance with the req

、uirements of the Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, ASME A17.1: a) Hoistway-Door Interlocks (ASME A17.1/CSA B44, Clause 2.12.2), b) Hoistway-Door Electric Contacts c) Hoistway-Door Combination Mechanical Lock and Electric Contacts (ASME A17.1/CSA B44, Clause 2.12.3); d) Hoistway Gate Electric

、 Contacts (ASME A17.1/CSA B44, Clause 2.12.2.4.4(c)(2); e) Car Door Interlocks (ASME A17.1, Clause 2.14.4.2.2); f) Car Door Electric Contacts (ASME A17.1/CSA B44, Clause 2.14.4.2.3); and g) Car Gate Electric Contacts (ASMEA17.1/CSA B44, Clause 2.14.4.2.3). 1.2 These requirements are intended to supp

、lement and be used in conjunction with the Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, ASME A17.1. 1.3 These requirements do not cover elevator appliances rated more than 600 volts. 2 General 2.1 Components 2.1.1 Except as indicated in 2.1.2, a component of a product covered by this standard shall com

、ply with the requirements for that component. 2.1.2 A component is not required to comply with a specic requirement that: a) Involves a feature or characteristic not required in the application of the component in the product covered by this standard, or b) Is superseded by a requirement in this sta

、ndard. 2.1.3 A component shall be used in accordance with its rating established for the intended conditions of use. 2.1.4 Specic components are incomplete in construction features or restricted in performance capabilities. Such components are intended for use only under limited conditions, such as

、certain temperatures not exceeding specied limits, and shall be used only under those specic conditions. Values in parentheses are explanatory or approximate information. 2.3 Undated references 2.3.1 Any undated reference to a code or standard appearing in the requirements of this standard shall be interpreted as referring to the late

、less the car door is locked in the closed position. b) To prevent the opening of the car door from inside the car unless the car is within the landing zone and is either stopped or being stopped. 3.3 CLOSED POSITION OF CAR AND HOISTWAY DOORS AND GATES As dened in the Safety Code for Elevators and Es

、calators, ASME A17.1: a) Horizontally sliding hoistway doors and gates (ASME A17.1, Clause 2.12.2.2); b) Horizontally sliding car doors and gates (ASME A17.1, Clause 2.14.4.11); and c) Vertically sliding counterweighted and counterbalanced hoistway doors (ASME A17.1, Clause 2.12.3.2). 3.4 DOOR OR GA

、TE ELECTRIC CONTACT An electrical device, the function of which is to prevent operation of the driving machine by the normal operating device unless the door or gate is in the closed position. 3.5 HOISTWAY DOOR COMBINATION MECHANICAL LOCK AND ELECTRIC CONTACT A combination mechanical and electric de

、vice with two related, but entirely independent, functions, that are: a) To prevent operation of the driving machine by the normal operating device unless the hoistway door is in the closed position and b) To lock the hoistway door in the closed position and prevent it from being opened from the lan

、ding side unless the car is within the landing zone. As there is no positive mechanical connection between the electric contact and the door locking mechanism, this device ensures only that the door will be closed, but not necessarily locked, when the car leaves the landing. Should the lock mechanis

、m fail to operate as intended when released by a stationary or retiring car-cam device, the door can be opened from the landing side even though the car is not at the landing. If operated by a stationary car-cam device, it does not prevent opening the door from the landing side as the car passes the

、erlock contacts close. 4.1.5 The requirements of 4.1.1 4.1.4 do not apply to interlocks used that are marked for use only in dumbwaiters, material lifts, or private residence elevators. 4.2 Hoistway-door combination mechanical locks and electric contacts 4.2.1 A hoistway-door combination mechanical

、lock and electric contact shall be designed so that the locking member and the electric contact are mounted on and attached to a common base in such a manner that there is a xed relation between the location of the contact and the location of the locking member. They shall be designed so that when i

、nstalled and adjusted in accordance with the manufacturers instructions: a) The electric contact cannot close until the door is in the closed position and b) The locking member is in a position to lock the door when or before the contact closes. In order to prevent motion of the door from opening th

、e electric contact while the door is locked in the closed position, multiple-locking points shall, where necessary, be provided on the locking mechanism. 4.2.2 The electric contact shall be positively opened by the locking bar of the mechanical lock or by a lever or other device attached to and oper

、positively opened by a lever or other device attached to and operated by the car door or gate. 4.3.2 Hoistway-door, car-door and gate electric contacts shall be maintained in the open position by the action of gravity, or a restrained compression spring, both, or by positive mechanical means. CONSTR

、UCTION 5 Assembly 5.1 A hoistway-door, car-door, or gate-locking device or contact shall have the strength and rigidity necessary to resist the abuses to which it may be subjected without resulting in a risk of re, electric shock, or injury to persons due to total or partial collapse with resulting

、interference with the functioning of parts, loosening or displacement of parts, or reduction of spacings. 6 Enclosure 6.1 The enclosure shall be constructed and assembled so that it will withstand handling during shipment and installation. 6.2 The enclosure and parts, such as covers, shall be provid

、t metal enclosure, whether iron or other metal, shall be at least 1/8 inch (3.2 mm) thick at all points and of greater thickness at reinforcing ribs and door edges, and not less than 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) thick at tapped holes for conduit. 6.6 The mechanical strength of a nonmetallic enclosure shall be

、at least equivalent to a sheet metal enclosure of the minimum thickness specied in 6.4. 6.7 Among the factors taken into consideration when evaluating the acceptability of a nonmetallic enclosure are: a) The mechanical strength; b) Resistance to impact; c) Moisture-absorption properties; d) Combusti
