7、s Association (CSA), under whose auspices this National Standard has been produced, was chartered in 1919 and accredited by the Standards Council of Canada to the National Standards system in 1973. It is a not-for-profit, nonstatutory, voluntary membership association engaged in standards developmen

8、t and certification activities.CSA standards reflect a national consensus of producers and users including manufacturers, consumers, retailers, unions and professional organizations, and governmental agencies. The standards are used widely by industry and commerce and often adopted by municipal, pro

9、vincial, and federal governments in their regulations, particularly in the fields of health, safety, building and construction, and the environment.Individuals, companies, and associations across Canada indicate their support for CSAs standards development by volunteering their time and skills to CS

10、A Committee work and supporting the Associations objectives through sustaining memberships. The more than 7000 committee volunteers and the 2000 sustaining memberships together form CSAs total membership from which its Directors are chosen. Sustaining memberships represent a major source of income f

31、, and acceptable performance of gas type 1 clothes dryers. It is the result of years of experience in the manufacture, testing, installation, maintenance, inspection and research on gas clothes dryers designed for utilization of gas. There are risks of injury to persons inherent in appliances that,

32、if completely eliminated, would defeat the utility of the appliance. The provisions in this standard are intended to help reduce such risks while retaining the normal operation of the appliance.Nothing in this standard is to be considered in any way as indicating a measure of quality beyond complian

33、ce with the provisions it contains. It is designed to allow compliance of type 1 gas clothes dryers, the safety construction and performance of which may exceed the various provisions specified herein. In its preparation, recognition has been given to possibilities of improvement through ingenuity o

34、f design. As progress takes place, revisions may become necessary. 42、or Gas Clothes Dryers Volume I, Type 1(This History is informative and is not part of the standard.)With the onset of the Free Trade Agreement between the United States and Canada on January 2, 1988, significant attention was given to the harmonization of the United States and Canadian safety standa

43、rds addressing gas-fired equipment for residential, commercial and industrial applications. It was believed that the elimination of the differences between the standards would remove potential trade barriers and provide an atmosphere in which North American manufacturers could market more freely in

44、the United States and Canada. The harmonization of these standards was also seen as a step toward harmonization with international standards.Under an agreement between the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) and International Approval Services (IAS), Canada Operations, a draft harmoni

45、zed standard for Type 1 gas clothes dryers was prepared by IAS-Canada staff. On December 6, 1992 the Z21/CGA Joint Clothes Dryers Subcommittee reviewed the first draft harmonized Type 1 gas clothes dryer standard based on current coverage from the American National Standard for Gas Clothes Dryers Vo

46、lume I, Type 1 Clothes Dryers, ANSI Z21.5.1-1992, and National Standard of Canada for Domestic Gas Clothes Dryers, CAN1-7.1-M85.At its December 1992 meeting, the Z21/CGA Joint Clothes Dryer Subcommittee considered and modified the proposed harmonized draft and agreed to distribute it for industry re

47、view during August 1993.With the formation of joint subcommittees, a Canadian Gas Association Standards Steering Committee on Gas Burning Appliances and Related Accessories was established to parallel Accredited Standards Committees Z21 and Z83, and to support the formation of joint subcommittees. O

48、perating procedures, in accordance with American National Standards Institute procedures, for joint subcommittees were developed and subsequently approved by ANSI on April 1, 1993.Following reconsideration and modification of the proposed draft standard for Type 1 gas clothes dryers, in light of com

49、ments received, the joint clothes dryers subcommittee, at its October 6, 1993 meeting, recommended the proposed draft to the Z21 Committee and the CGA Standards Steering Committee for approval.The proposed draft of the harmonized standard for Type 1 gas clothes dryers, as modified by the joint subcommittee, was approved by the Z21 Comm
