SCOPE. 1-1 This commercial item description desc
2、ribes two types of parachute packing weights for use as packing aids. 1-2 The packing weights are intended for use by parachute riggers for holding canopy gores in position during the folding of the canopy and stowing of the suspension lines when packing a parachute. 2. CLASSIFICATION. The packing w
3、eights shall conform to the following types (see 3.1 and 7.1). 2.1 Type. 5、IENT CHARACTERISTICS. 3.1 Materials. (see 5.1). 3.1.1 Cover. The Type I packing weight cover shall be constructed of heavy woven tubular textured nylon. The Type II packing weight shall be constructed of a laminated vinyl-nylon cloth that is of high strength and flexible. Materials shall be of the q
6、uality normally used by the manufacturer in his standard commercial products, provided that the completed item complies with all provisions of this document. 3.1.2 Lead shot. The pellets will be 0.1to 0.15 inches in diameter and have a total weight of approximately 5 pounds. 3.1.3 Thread. The thread
7、 will be nylon. 3.2 Desisn and construction. The design and construction of the packing weights shall conform in all respects to the require- ments specified herein. (see 5.1). 3.2.1 Shape. The Type I packing weight will have a single tubular compartment filled with lead shot (see 3.1.2). The Type I
8、I packing weight will have two parallel tubular compartments with the lead shot (see 3.1.2) equally divided into each compartment. 3.2.2 Dimensions. The Type I packing weight will be approximately 19 inches in length and 1 1/2 inches in diameter. The Type II packing weight will be approximately 20 i
9、nches in length and 2 3/8 inches wide. The depth or thickness of the weights is determined by the lead shot in the compartments. 3.2.3 Stitching. The stitching will be standard commercial or llzig-zagtl. Standard stitching seams will have a minimum of 2 rows of stitching. 3.2.4 Searinq. After sewing
10、, the ends of the tubular nylon for the Type I weight will be seared to prevent fraying. There will be no sharp edges or ridges. 3.3 Color. The packing weights will be red, orange, yellow or any of the similarly bright llneonll colors. 3.4 Cleanliness. The packing weights shall be free of dirt, stai

The finished packing weights shall conform to the quality of product established by this document. The occurrence
12、 of defects shall not exceed the contractors own quality assurance standards defined by the technical data in the bid package. 3.6 Bid samples. When required, offerors shall submit samples of their intended production. The bid sample will consist of units independently developed. The bid samples wil
13、l be analyzed and evaluated by the Government. Evaluation criteria and basis of award are contained in the solicitation. The bid samples will be retained by the Government. One (1) bid sample approved by the contracting agency will serve as a manufactured standard for the corresponding production it
14、ems delivered under the contract. Offerors are advised that the bid sample does not relieve the successful offeror of his responsibility to perform in accordance with the commercial item description specified above. 4. REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. 4.1 The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovere
15、d materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 5. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS. 5.1 Contractor Certification. The contractor shall certify and maintain substantiating evidence that the product offered meets the salient
16、characteristics and requirements of this Commercial Item Description, and that the product conforms to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves the right to
17、require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract. 5.2 Metric product. Products manufactured to metric dimensions will be considered on an equal basis with those manufactured using inch-pound units, provided
18、 they fall within specified tolerances using conversion tables contained in the latest revision of FED-STD-376, and all other requirements of this commercial item description are met. If a product is manufactured to metric dimensions and those dimensions exceed the tolerances specified in the inch-p
19、ound units, a request should be made to the contracting officer to determine if the product is acceptable. The item offered must have been sold to the commercial market or to the Government, and the contractor shall certify and provide supporting documentation as to the serviceability and the long term (one year) availability of all necess
21、ary maintenance and logistics support parts and materials. 5.4 Warrantv. The item offered shall include the standard warranty given to the commercial market. 6. PACKAGING. 6.1 Preservation and Dackinq. Preservation and packing shall be commercial preservation and packing in accordance with ASTM D 39
22、51 or as specified in the contract or purchase order. 6.2 Palletization. When specified (see 7.1) the packing weights shall be palletized in accordance with ASTM D 4649 and ASTM D 4675. 6.3 Markinq. In addition to any special marking required by the contract or order, unit packs, shipping containers
23、 and palletized unit loads shall be marked in accordance with ASTM D 3951. 7. NOTES. 7.1 Orderina data. Acquisition documents should specify the following: a.
